Manchester United vs Newcastle United
Date: Sunday, 24 April 2005, 16:05
Competition: Premiership
Venue: Old Trafford

I would go for this line-up:

Howard

P. Neville - Rio - Brown - Heinze

Keane

Ronaldo - Kleberson (Smith) - Giggs (Fletcher)

Ruud - Rooney

I'd seriously consider the dropping of either or both Howard and Rio after last night. Rio couldn't care less, and Howard flapped so hard on the crosses that he was starting to fly.

As for Right Back, can Spector play there? Fergie kept him due to injuries in January, and said he'd get his chance, now is the chance in the next 3 games to give him a good run in the team. In the midfield, if Giggs is back play him. I'd go back to a 4-4-2 formation, we've nothing to lose right now, and it's not like Newcastle are much opposition, look at Sunday as an example.

I'd go 3-4-3. Why bother with 4 at the back? Rio, Brown and Heinze can deal with what they've got to offer.

Keane
Rooney
Ronaldo

Smith
Ruud

put Brown inplace of Neville and stick Silvestre back in

Possibility too. Wes co-operated well with Ronaldo on the right side against LFC. But IMO it would be better for him to have a few matches in a row as a CB.

rooney would play in the scholes position and ronaldo on both wings

Preview: United v Newcastle

RYAN Giggs returns to the Manchester United squad on Sunday as the Red Devils look to avoid a third successive Premiership defeat in their Old Trafford clash with Newcastle.

Giggs made a brief substitute appearance against the Magpies in last weekend’s FA Cup semi-final but was rested for the defeat at Everton on Wednesday in a bid to ensure he has fully recovered from his recent hamstring injury.

Gary Neville starts the first game of a three-match ban following his controversial dismissal at Goodison Park, while Paul Scholes is also suspended after being shown a red card in the final minute.

The Red Devils go into the game having scored just one goal in their last five league outings.

A chronic lack of goals is the major reason why United have fallen 15 points adrift of champions-elect Chelsea and Giggs is calling on the Old Trafford outfit to solve the problem before they face Arsenal at the Millennium Stadium on May 21.

“Over the next five matches, we have to try and get ourselves into a run of form so we are on top of our game when we play Arsenal,” Giggs told MUTV.

“You want to be going into big games like that in some sort of form. Five games is plenty of time to achieve it, so the aim is to win them all.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Kieron Dyer returns to the Newcastle squad for the game.

Dyer, who missed last weekend’s cup defeat as he completed his three-match suspension, is available once again, although Lee Bowyer serves his fourth game.

Manager Graeme Souness has doubts over Amdy Faye and Steven Taylor (both ankle), but Jermaine Jenas (calf), Titus Bramble (groin), Celestine Babayaro (hamstring) and Aaron Hughes (hernia) are all out.

Manchester United (from): Howard, Carroll, P Neville, Ferdinand, Brown, Silvestre, Heinze, O’Shea, Fletcher, Fortune, Ronaldo, Kleberson, Keane, Giggs, Miller, van Nistelrooy, Smith, Rooney, Bellion.

Man utd will win this match easily, Newcastle are a terrible side.

Let's go 4-4-2 and run them ragged and experiment with Gabby in CD.

Depends on whether it's Jekyll or Hyde today.

Given that we drew 0-0 with the Barcodes last year, I won't call this a foregone conclusion. If Souness keeps it tight at the back bearing in mind last week's thrashing, we'll be in for more frustration. Alternatively, lead by half-time and this should be a comfortable game.
