Manchester United vs. Queens Park Rangers

I read this in the voice of the guy who gives speech to movie trailers.

Just trying to abate the panic that is creeping up on us here with some dry humour.

Not that I'm in a whining, moaning mood this beautiful morning in Northern California, but we've looked like this more often than not since Ronaldo left and yet we still somehow bring him trophies.

We're playing well though, right?

We are doing OK in front of an inspired and resolute QPR. Our first half performance was slightly below par, but nothing like the usual over reactions seen all too often in this match day thread. Am still confident we will win comfortably.

Am getting abit fed up with this constant yearning for Anderson and Cleverley in this forum. One would think SAF was consistently not picking players the quality of Rooney and RVP, the way many posters go on about these two.

The team we have on the field today are easily good enough to win.

35:20 sums up what's wrong with a lot of our play. Lindegaard collects a corner, quickly rolls it out to Fletcher on the edge of our box, he turns and runs about 20 yards with space in front of him and support coming but he turns sideways, waits for the QPR defenders to run back, then passes it sideways to Young. Any hope of a counter attack.

Slow, ponderous shite.

How often have we looked like doing anything by constantly going wide? Maybe if we got our technically gifted, one touch players on the pitch and close together we could make QPR chase the ball a bit and open them up with passing? Spain play against packed midfield's constantly and yet somehow manage to win a lot doing exactly what I'm suggesting. I've had enough of the old cliches of 'going wide' and 'stretching the pitch'. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Dortmund none of those teams play with tons of width but they would absolutely massacre QPR, Norwich and Villa.

We don't have the players that any of those teams mentioned do. So it's a bit pointless demanding we play that way when it's completely unknown if it's even possible. For example, I don't think Rooney would fit into such a system, and he's way too important a player for us to change to a system where he wouldn't be 100% comfortable.

We are making QPR chase the game by spreading it wide - it's why Scholes has been so good throughout his career, he constantly moves the ball around wide and then back into him and wide again - moving opposition players about all over the place. If we can get good possession for the first 15 minutes of the second half, we'll win the game comfortably in the end as spaces will begin to appear more frequently.

fecking QP-Orr. How is this cnut of a commentator in a job?!

There seems to be no urgency or decent tempo at all! Hopefully things will improve.

So our response to the first 45 has been to switch the positions of Young and Welbz...

I've waited until half time before checking out this thread and its pretty much what I expected. There's an awful big gap between how that team should be playing and how its actually playing at the moment. There's been way too many mediocre performances from our players this season. Apart from shit individual performances, systems and tactics it cries out for a leader out on the pitch, something we haven't got. A Roy Keane, Brian Robson or Vidic leading by example and bollocking under performing team mates is what we are badly lacking:(

Pretty much disagree with every single part of that post. From complaining about us "settling for 1 or 2-0" (which is masterful retardation) to "guaranteeing" that Cleverley and Anderson offer everything that Scholes (that's Paul Scholes, by the way, not just some two bit central midfielder) and Fletcher do and "a lot more". Ridiculous. Let's just forget this e-conversation ever happened.

You'll settle for 1-0 or 2-0 against the worst fecking team in the league? That's precisely the reason we lost the title last year. You'd think we, of all teams would realize that. And this Paul Scholes, is 38 years old now. 38. Our other midfielder has a disease and is playing his first league game in over a year. No matter what two players those are, it's a shite midfield whatever way you look at it. I love Scholes as much as anyone, trust me. But it's time for him, and giggs to call it a day.

Every time this season we've had a performance like this, we had one of Scholes or giggs playing. And it was fixed, every time, by putting Cleverley and Anderson on. I understand your just backing SAF but there's nothing wrong with admitting his team selections this season have been questionable, at best.

What in actual feck was that pass from Young?

Funny I remember us doing a damn good job of one touch football in the first 45 minutes against Fulham only a couple of months ago and hey at Newcastle we did it fairly good too. But if you say we don't have the players clearly we don't.

As for the idea QPR are chasing the game. Honestly I dont know if you and I watching the same thing. QPR have barely done any running and our penetration in wide areas has been so poor they have not had to adjust their defensive lines very often at all. They're expending no energy whatsoever keeping us at bay.

I'm sorry, but you simply can't blame the players for this. In the modern game, the midfield dictates how your team will play, and we've started with an invalid and a geriatric. How on earth is anyone in this team supposed to play with tempo or desire under those conditions?

You just know Young will do something in this match to quiet the haters.
