Tuesday 14th September, 2010
Kick Off: 19:45 BST
Old Trafford (capacity: 76,212)

Van Der Sar
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Fletcher Scholes Nani
Rooney Berbatov

Thatll do.

Bang on.

Was surprised Fergie played Scholes for the full 90 today, with this game in mind.

Hope he's still got enough steam for Tuesday. Can't see who else Fergie would play, with Carrick out, Anderson still recovering. There's Gibson but can't see it.

This game can't come any quicker

The team above, but save Scholes for the dippers and play Park in CM. We'll win about 4-1

I'd give Scholes the week off before the Liverpool game. Don't want him getting injured and having to play O'Shea in midfield again.

Who do we play in midfield against Rangers if we rest Scholes though? i thought about that and if Carrick or Anderson had been available id have done the same as i doubt we'll need him to beat Rangers, but with both out i dont want to see Gibson in a midfield 2, hes just awful in that position so Scholes has to play for me, plus hes just had 2 weeks off through the international break so he should be good to go for this next week, id look to give him a rest after the liverpool game.

please no o'shea in cm or right-back.....I don't want him playing.

I'd love Anderson on the bench but I can see him just missing out. Fletcher and Scholes will need to be subbed at some point IMO, so most likely for Gibson and Giggs. Depending on how the game goes, we'll probably see either Berbatov, Nani, or Rooney go off for Hernandez or O'Shea.. It's a difficult one with a must-win game against Liverpool up next, but first priority is winning this. I'm just expecting Scholes and Fletcher to start getting a little tired, and we need both of them for Liverpool.

Rooney Berbatov

I like it.

If i was making one change. It would be Evra. I don't think there is any harm in dropping him for this one. Just send him a message that nobody is irreplaceable. Keep playing like shit and you will lose your place.

I just don't want to see Gaz, O'shea or Evans in the lineup. Just don't trust them at the moment. I think we need to gives Scholesy and Berba a rest as well, so maybe try Hernandez and Gibson from the start and if we need them bring on the big guns.

Team should be....

GK: VDS

RB: Neville
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Vidic
LB: Evra

RM: Valencia
CM: Fletcher
CM: O'Shea
LM: Nani

CF: Rooney
CF: Berbatov

Subs: PIG, Rafael, Evans, Smalling, Scholes, Giggs, Owen, Hernandez

3-0 Rooney, Berbatov x2 with the goals

I can definitely see us going with Gibson for this one, possibly some mix upfront which will see either Owen or Hernandez start. I can also see a midfield trio of Fletcher, Scholes and Park for Liverpool.

Agree about saving Scholes for next week, but Park in centre midfield I'm not so sure about. Carrick would have been a certainty for this.

Scholes needs to be rested for this one, he's too important too us at the minute and the Liverpool game is bigger.

Rebound match, 4-0. We will play excellent. Dunno why but I have a feeling Berbatov might be rested and play a 4-5-1, just a hunch.

Berbatov just has to start in this sort of form. He's not 35 odd like Scholes, doesn't need to be rested in September ffs.

Rangers will play something like:

McGregor
Whittaker Bougherra Weir Papac
Weiss Davis Edu McCulloch Naismith
Miller

They are quite a physical team but I can see a comfortable defeat.

I know its the UCL but Rangers are a glorified league 1 team. We should win this one..

We're not that bad.

Should be quite close to the mark. Right-back's an issue as not one of Broadfoot, Foster or Whittaker has truly convinced, although at least the latter is very tidy on the ball. I'm concerned about Weir at this level because he's no longer sharp enough to deal with top class strikers. In midfield McCulloch isn't particularly mobile but on the whole we're reasonably solid. Smith will pack that area of the park but we'd need United to have a serious off-day to even have a hope of taking something to be honest.

Wholesale change

Kuszczak
Brown
Ferdinand (c)
Smalling
C. Evans
Valenica
Anderson
Gibson

Macheda
Owen

Some of you seem to be underestimating Rangers, we've just seen that football can throw up huge surprises (Hercules beating Barca for example) and a lot of you are advocating wholesale changes. Weird, we need to win this game, don't think any of our 3 away games in this are going to be easy so we really do need 9 points from 9 at home. We have from Tuesday to the Sunday to rest before Liverpool so there's plenty of time to recover from this game. No excuse for leaving big names out really.

I'm hoping Ferdinand is back for this one, Fergie said he was training very well on Thursday and he even refused to let him play in the reserve game so he must be close. I think we can definitely expect to see him on the bench at least. Considering how poor we've looked at the back though I'd chuck him straight back in. Hope we see Anderson on the bench too.

I'd go with;

van der Sar

Rafael Vidic Ferdinand Evra
Valencia Fletcher Scholes Nani
Rooney Berbatov

Subs: PIG, Neville, O' Shea, Anderson, Gibson, Owen, Hernandez

We'll win 3-0, hoping Berbatov continues his scoring form.

If Brown is fit I'd put him at right back, but he just seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth.

I don't get this whole resting Berbatov/van der Sar/Vidic thing - it's the fifth game proper of the season, it's the first game in the Champions League and we don't want to leave ourselves extra work to do in the last couple of group games. Put a strong team out and go two or three up after an hour, then perhaps they can be taken off if really necessary. Scholes is the only one I can understand right now, and I imagine he'll be on the bench.
