Manchester United vs Real Madrid

De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Carrick, Cleverley, Welbeck, Van Persie, Rooney, are all sure starters I'd say, considering their roles in the Norwich game.

This only really leaves one spot for Valencia, Nani, Giggs or Kagawa.

You don't think Young has a chance of starting? Or am I the only one who things we'll see Young tonight?

Don't understand why so many people are keen on Valencia starting, he's been shocking this season. If he starts he and Ramos would be the worst players on the pitch comfortably.

I'd love to see a front 4 of Kagawa, Nani, RVP and Rooney. Giggs to come on around the 70 min mark..

Whatever our team will be, our bench will be incredible. So many talented players will miss out. At least if it's going pear-shaped, we can bring on a player of any mould relaly.

I'd love to see Young, but he hasn't played in a bit. That said, I think he was thrown into the Chelsea match after an injury. So who knows!

Have had to just ask my manager to take the afternoon off as a holiday. There's absolutely no point in me being at work in this state. Off to go get baked !!

What a fecking game we have on our hands, I couldn't fall asleep until 5.30 am.

Not sure if serious :wenger:

He's a decent Premiership player, but no way is he CL class.

I'd say you're underrating him just a tad. He was far more than decent in the games against Chelsea and City this season.

Not that I'm advocating playing Young or anything, but I hope Fergie put's a bit more tactical thought into tonight as opposed to 'lets play all our best players'.

I love this video

Brilliant video. It actually brought tears to my eyes. Incredible scenes throughout.

I always forget what a fantastic impact Tevez had that season - reminded me why it was so hard to start disliking him.

I loved that "Believe" in the crowd. Brilliant scenes.

COME ON UNITED. Fergie deserves another.

I'm bricking it. I'm tempted to put a bet on Madrid qualifying just so I'm guaranteed some sort of happy ending. I'm a natural pessimist but I think tonight is going to be the start of a horrible week for us.

Fergie's started him against City and Chelsea away, so he clearly likes him for the big games.

I'm not saying he should start or anything (I'd go for Welbeck and Rooney on the wings) but I reckon there is a strong possibility that he might.

I'm almost glad I'd already agreed to take someone to watch our local team weeks ago, thinking the game was on tomorrow.

Still won't be able to escape goal updates though I'm sure!

Really torn on this one as to who will play. I think with Jones out the case for Rooney playing central is a lot stronger. He gives more defensive protection than any other play we have in that area and Rooney had a good game against Norwich. Dunno who Fergie will go for between clev and giggs to partner Carrick. Clev has been a bit off in the last few games but he has a lot more energy.

You'd think Welbeck will definitely start given his performance in the first leg which just leaves it between nani, kagawa and valencia for the other spot, though I guess Young is in contention as well. Personally I'd want the pace/direct threat of Nani as I don't think we'd want to go to narrow plus I think their fullbacks can be got at as much as ours.

I think the extremely varied lineups being posted is a sign that a lot of us are comfortable with any sort of front four we can put out. Jones' availability is really the key. If he's available I think we'll start the same team as in Madrid except with Giggs instead of Kagawa.

Beyond that is anyone's guess.

What about Wes Brown? He was the best RB in the world that year, bar none.

Now I'm pumped up

Jones is injured and out of the match.

Just watched the three videos, and I hope the lads have seen something similar today.

Amazing

Jones is injured and out of the match.

I have a funny feeling that he might play. We need him. I watched a quick replay of the first leg half an back and he was absolutely immense. Won some very important headers and brilliant defensively. Cleverley won't be able to do the job that he did.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

It feels like "minutes to kick off" is inversely proportional to my levels of pessimism about this one.

I was fairly positive and optimistic about this one this morning, but now more and more doubt is creeping in :nervous:

Come on United!

I think there's a good chance of Valencia playing tonight because he offers physicality, wing play (admittedly poor this season), and protection for Rafael.

Of course, he didn't start in the first leg, but the need not to concede is that much more acute tonight.

Sky had a 2 hour build-up to the first leg. ITV are dedicating a mammoth 15 mins before kick-off, of which 10 mins will be adverts and Chiles' retarded attempts at jokes.

Uagh. Nerves have properly kicked in. For some reason I can't see us going through unless Real are really having an off-day. I know we're about even in quality, but still... just a gut feeling :nervous:
One last prediction: Vidic will start.

De Gea
Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Carrick - Cleverley
Nani - Rooney - Welbeck
RVP

SAF in today's program notes -

People ask me why I don't retire after so many years in the game.

How could anyone with an ounce of passion for football in their soul voluntarily walk away from the opportunity to be involved in this kind of occasion?

Rafael's form with and without Valencia is quite striking. I would not be surprised to see Valencia start, at all.

The only thing I'm looking forward to with ITV's coverage tonight is if we score, Clive will at least act excited. For all the moments that him and Andy Townsend make me want to stuff horse manure in my ears to bloke out their inane ramblings, they will at least shout and treat a goal differently to say winning a corner. I saw a repeat of Welbeck's goal from the first leg and Tyler was pretty solemn.

Did you think that Real had an off-day in the first leg?

So there's no possibility that Real might play really well, create many chances, and United still make it though?

Seems like you kinda expect us to lose, so I don't see why you are nervous?

Yeah, they definitely have a good thing going on down that right wing. They're link up play can be excellent and they love to cover for each other. Something that could be very useful with Ronaldo about!

I need to do this assignment but I can't fecking concentrate on it. Need to block this out somehow.

The weak link in the first leg was that flank. Rafael had a mare and it wasn't just Ronaldo but Coentrao giving us major headaches. Rooney's cover didn't work and, despite not clearly doing anything useful, we looked much safer once Valencia was there.

Real tired, mind, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is that right flank that has the most changes, be it Rafael not playing, being covered by Valencia, or Smalling playing there and Rafael having some sort of free defensive or wing role. I prefer the tried and tested Rafa-Valencia combo even if he will feck up a few moves.

The difference is we're now playing at home, where one or two tiny mistakes can make the difference (away goals). I was quite relaxed watching the away leg, knowing we can score the (hopefully crucial) away goal. Ah, it doesn't make any sense, you're right... we will go through.
