Then why start the thread. Should just leave it to Nemanja15 to do match day threads.

It annoys me to no understanding. They only show up to open big game threads and yet are not ready but want to beat those who do it regularly to the punch. It always bring misfortune as well. I still have not forgiven the poster "Against all Odds". I doubt people will remember him.
Yes, I am superstitious.

People who believe in these things need their head kicked in.
Yes, I am unforgiving.

I can see Fergie surprising everyone again by this lineup:

.............DDG...............
Rafael....Vidic...Rio...Evra
............Carrick............
...Cleverley....Anderson..
............Kagawa...........
.......Rooney...RVP.........

Wingless wonders, but the Cleverson continuum backed up with Carrick's composure

Our defence will have to be on the ball. 4 cleansheets on the bounce is fantastic so hopefully it'll give the whole team a big confidence boost.

Stop Ronaldo, and we won't concede. Rinse and repeat. Easier said than done of course, but it's possible.

We should have won the first leg. Varane could have potentially been sent off, RVP uncharacteristically missed that 1 on 1 and Giggs could have done better when the ball fell to him in the box. I think we're being underestimated here. It'll be the toughest game of the season yet, but I think we'll do the job.

The season will be too boring if we get knocked out. This squad of players deserve to go further than the last 16 of the CL.

Don't think it's as simple as stopping Ronaldo and we don't concede. He's prolific but he's more easily contained than the likes of Di Maria and Ozil, who are trickier players. I barely even noticed Ronaldo in the second half in the Bernabeu, but Di Maria in particular was terrifying.

I'd like to see:

De Gea

Rafael - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra

Valencia - Carrick - Jones/Cleverley - Nani
Kagawa

RVP

Welbeck was amazing when he was moved centrally in the 1st leg. Playing just behind van Persie, they had real problems picking him up and stopping him running at them. I'd use the same tactic again, it'd be hard to leave Kagawa out as well after his performance against Norwich but this would obviously mean us playing narrow.

If we're going purely on form, Giggs is our best winger at the moment along with Nani. Think he deserves a start, 1000 or not.

Nani - Carrick - Jones - Kagawa

Rooney

RVP

My goodness. Some people need their head shaken. Evans has played in every meaningful CL game this season. He will start. No question. SAF is not stupid enough to leave a workhorse like Wayne Rooney on the bench.

If you look at his strategy in the first leg, he had players who would back track every where. that is Nani's weakness. He also used a squad that would play narrow in middle while defending. ie he didn't use any natural wingers. I think this is why Valencia was not in the XI.

Ferguson will still be looking to deny Madrid and especially CR. So if Jones is ready to go, I'm betting he starts. For me the only spots up for grabs would be Welbeck's, Kagawa's and Jones'. The other eight from the first leg are a lock to start.

I'm sure SAF is not look to present the same strategy as leg one. I think he knows he'll have to throw something different Jose's way. If I'm guessing, one choice will be Valencia and not Welbeck.

OP sort your fecking shit out, that's terrible.

Cant wait for this, atmosphere will be rocking and the club cutting the PA before KO will be a welcome return.

5mns of a loud 'Bring on United' would be great.

Real Madrid travelling squad:

Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas, Adán, Diego López and Jesús.
Defenders: Ramos, Arbeloa, Marcelo, Albiol, Varane, Pepe, Coentrão and Carvalho.
Midfielders: Modric, Alonso, Khedira, Özil, Kaká, Callejón, Di María and Essien.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Higuaín and Morata.

Casillas is still injured, right?

I think we might have slightly more possession than we had in the first leg but the overall pattern of the game will be very similar and hopefully this time we can take our chances.

It's gonna be a battle that's all I know and a lot of concentration and focus will be required. Real Madrid is in top form

I just want to hear a rousing rendition of "Sit down/Chin up Mourinho" and "Mourinho are you listening...". Probably a muted "Viva Ronaldo" after we win.

Based on Vidic starting you'd have to think the back five will be:

DDG
Rafael - Rio - Evans - Evra

The midfield is a lot more tricky. You could look at Cleverley, Nani, and Welbeck not starting as an indication that they will start on Tuesday. Kagawa's performance surely has to mean he's in consideration though and even Valencia put in an improved performance so who knows. Even Jones is an option given Sir Alex's history with injury announcements. I'd go:

Carrick - Cleverley
Kagawa - Rooney - Welbeck/Nani
RvP

I wouldn't be surprised to see Jones or Valencia though. Anderson surely ruled himself out of any chance of playing.

not happy with the Ref, Platini dirty games again

btw : if im not mistaken this Ref denied United 2 penalties last season against Benfica,

I doubt he will start, but Goal.com (not the most reliable of sites) are claiming he is fit enough to take part in the game.

The Spain international resumed ball training on Friday, though, and has now been deemed fit enough to participate in the second leg of his side's round of 16 European tie at Old Trafford.

I had my team as - DDG, Rafael, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Cleverley, Anderson, Rooney, RvP, Welbeck.

But the performance (and hat-trick) by Kagawa has changed my mind. I think we should play Kagawa in place of Anderson.

Yep..think it all depends on the first goal. If Real score first, I reckon we'll be out. They are in good form, but hopefully after two matches against Barca, perhaps a certain amount of fuel has been spent!!

I really don't think the first goal will matter that much, particularly if we score first. You can be sure both teams will score goals.

It will matter if they score first. It would mean that we would have to chase the game and which will leave more spaces behind, which they would exploit on the counter given their pace.

I think who ever will score first, will most likely win the tie.

We need to score 3 to go through imo. That Rvp miss could really come back to haunt us.

That's what I feel. Even a 2-2 would have been so much better. We'll play a conservative game and getting two at OT would have been mighty tough for them.

Not at all confident for this game. We have to score first.

Meh, I don't agree. Think there's going to be lots of goals for both sides in this one so the first goal shouldn't change anything.

SAF has already said he fully expects Madrid to score, so I think we'll be set up with the aim of scoring goals. Conceding one shouldn't change the way we play too much.

Assuming Jones is injured:

DDG
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Nani Carrick Cleverley Giggs Rooney
RVP

Well, maybe, who knows!

maybe...but I do think that if Real score in the first 10/15 mins, our task is going to be bloody hard. Just hope RVP has his eye in for this one since he can conjure something out of nothing, which we might need.

We'll certainly need him to put his finishing boots back on again!

It will actually. It would mean that we just couldn't sit back and hit on the counter but will have to go at them. Which plays into their strength, which is counter-attacking at a fast pace in spaces left by the opposition.

The team we will play IMO

DE gea

Rafael rio evans Evra
Giggs jones carrick
Nani RVP Rooney

I'd like to see cleverly in for giggs and kagawa ahead of Nani.

Come on Utd !!

Don't think cleverly is as disciplined defensively to be honest which is why he will probably prefer Giggs. I think kagawa will play a part, probably in the second half depending on which nani turns up!! (if the later is playing of course)
