Manchester United vs Real Madrid

I think the bookies are getting a bit carried away with Madrid's win away to Barcelona. Like Fergie said, it was probably a one-off. Having Madrid favorites to win at Old Trafford is a bit over the top. I am very tempted to put big money on United winning.

Would be surprised if Kagawa plays. He made 90 minutes for us and he hasn't done that for a very long time, plus there will have only been a full two day rest period. Same reasoning with Vidic. So on that basis, I'd go for:

de Gea

Rafael
Ferdinand
Evans
Evra

Carrick
Cleverley

Nani
Rooney
Welbeck

van Persie

SUBS: Lindegaard, Smalling, Anderson, Valencia, Giggs, Kagawa, Hernandez.

Especially after Fergie's press conference where he said he's sure there'll be goals and 'we know what our strengths are' which I feel points towards pace and wingers. That means Nani surely and after his first leg display, Welbeck. Cleverley to sit alongside Carrick which will just give us that bit more buzz and creativity too.

I assume we'll line up like the first leg, as it did work quite well in restricting Madrid and Ronaldo too much chances. Who'll do the donkey work in midfield though with no Jones, he was very important in Madrid. Anderson? Good Jesus... Leaves Cleverley for me, who is a busy player, but not quite sure he has the physical capabilities to perform in such a role vs. Madrid.

DDG
Rafael Rio Evans Evra
Cleverley Carrick Giggs
Rooney RvP Welbeck

No Jones so someone else would have to mark Ron. Maybe Ando then. We'd defo miss the role Jones played in the first leg.

-----------------DDG--------------------
Rafael--------Rio------Vidic----------Evra
----------Carrick------Cleverley----------
Welbeck---------Rooney----------Kagawa
------------------RVP--------------------

What about Rafael in the Jones role in midfield, with Smalling or Evans going to right-back? Just a thought...

Back Madrid, win-win.

True. If I put big money on United to win and they went out, I would be double depressed.

I just can't see United not winning though. I have a very strong feeling it will be more comfortable than the spectacle is being built as.

It's annoying when someone keeps mentioning 'pogba pogba pogba'.

No, it's annoying when what should have been a silly stray comment which everyone ignores brings an over-the-top reaction and the whole thread gets derailed for half an hour.

jesus christ. ive lamented the endless droning on about an uncapped 19 year old many times but here we are in the matchday thread of the biggest game of the season, away goal in hand against a top side, on course for a record points total in the league, carrick in the form of his life and a midfielder just scored a hattrick....and here we fecking go again.

anyway, back in the real world, my line up

De Gea

Rafael
Evans (would love vidic to play,no offence to evans who i trust)
Ferdinand
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Cleverley
Rooney
Kagawa

RVP

Cant worry too much about ronaldo and certainly cant build a gameplan around stopping him when theres so man other threats. remember, theyre the ones that have to score. i know that chances are they will but i just mention it for anyone expecting a line up like vs bayern a few years ago or roma before that. we are right to be cautious for a while and i think valencia and kagawa are responsible enough for that, when we need to attack valencia, kagawa, cleverley, rooney and rvp will cause problems.

Nani must surely be a starter in this match, Im confident he will get a goal or an assist. This game has to deliver after all the hype!

Got a wee turtle head beginning to venture out now.

So glad I'm not in charge of team selection for this. Same goes for some of you lot as well actually!

Is about how long this typical Pogba digression lasts, in my experience. Why not just ignore the occasional silly comments like Padzilla's (and let's face it, he was only joking anyway) and get on with things.

Look, I'm doing it too now. Let's stop.

I'd love to sleep through the game and get the result at the end, nerve wrecking stuff.

I can understand people being nervous, but pull yourself together mate! These are the types of games every football fan should relish.

Does anyone know if theres a banner or crowd mosaic or anything like that planned for tomorrow? fantastic against barca a few years ago

edit: its a giant scarf and flags, busby babes and the crest. looks good!
