Keep Rooney in there, as we all know by now he needs to play the whole time.
Rest VP, get him over his recent niggles and save him for Saturday.

Definitely start Hernandez, tomorrow and Norwich next mid week 2, he deserves a couple of games quite close.

Valencia and Kagawa isn't a bad shout for wide.

Would love to see Clev start. Not sure about Danny. I love him but he frustrates the feck out of me.

Were Rio and Vidic rested for the league game or are they injured?

Physioroom lists Vidic as calf/shin injury, Rio as groin/pelvis. Expected return date for both is Stoke on 26th Oct. Neither were among the 21 player match day squad pictured taking a walk close to the Lowry Hotel prior to the draw against Soton, nor were they in the main group for training today, so it would be a surprise if they appeared tomorrow.

Cleverley suffered a calf injury in England training on the thurs before their first match. Since he wasn't in the main group for training today, it would be surprising if he was risked tomorrow.

3 points would be massive. I expect them to bounce back but I think we will know early on in the match what sort of night it will be.

De Gea
Rafael - Jones - Evans - Evra
Carrick --- Cleverley
Kagawa
Valencia - RvP - Nani
4-3-3 with Kagawa dropping deep at times and when we are attacking occupying the space in behind RvP.
Januzaj to come off the bench for his first game in Europe, perhaps (though I think he can handle it just fine).

If Rio, Vidic, Cleverley & Welbeck are out...........

--------- De Gea
Rafael--Jones--Evans--Evra
------ -Carrick-Fellaini
Nani----- Kagawa---- Young
-------- Van Persie

- I think Rooney needs a little break + I want see Kagawa behind Van Persie
- Januzaj will come on as a sub in the last minute and will score the winner seconds later......to be a hero again (You heard it here first)
- I'm not happy with Carrick & Fellaini against a team like Real Socieded but we have no other options...........Anderson has played for the reserves on Monday so i don't think he'll start this match

Would be surprised to see Young come in from the wilderness for this. More likely Valencia will get some minutes instead.

I would like to see Nani given 90 minutes for a change and also think that Kagawa in behind one of Rooney or van Persie would be best.

However, the strength of the line up isn't likely to be the most important factor in this match, which we saw at the weekend when Moyes picked a very strong starting team. If this game is tight or we are drawing going into the final stages, I'd like to see him go for the killer goal rather than the negative approach he took against Southampton.

At the very least, let's see some good, attacking football.

Carrick - Cleverley
Nani - Rooney - Kagawa
van Persie

That'd do me. Though I wouldn't mind either Rooney or van Persie making way for Januzaj or someone.

More the choice of subs for me than negative (Giggs and Welbeck wasn't negative), AJ had faded and should have been replaced with Zaha or Welbeck, Fellaini should have stayed on due to height strength and physicality (all the things we bought him for plus the fact there was just over 10 mins left) and they looked like a set piece would be their only way of scoring, why take of someone who's a good dominant figure at set pieces?

I don't think putting Smalling on was that bad an idea especially how it panned out I think that was the correct call by Moyes and just certain player/players failed to do their job at the goal.

I think if Smalling and Evans started the game together and he brought on Jones to buzz around infront of the back four, that might have had less of an effect, but to tamper with the harmony of the actual back 4 that had played 85 minutes with 5 minutes to go seemed needlessly risky. Southampton had alot of the ball, but up until that point, our defence didn't really look troubled. It was an attempt to fix something which was working fine, in my opinion.

I remember Fergie saying a long time ago that defensive substitutions to the back 5 should be for injury, a level of fatigue that a player just cannot carry on, or if a certain player is having an absolute howler. He may have contradicted that on a few occasions, but I think it makes sense. He didn't pull a defender off, but he did pull Jones out of defence, where he was having a fine game. Hindsight is a wonderful thing of course, but I'd have preferred us to make a sub which would have helped us retain the ball, and not a sub which invited Southampton on and made us sit so deep.

Yeah I'd go with this, is Cleverley not still injured though?

I have a feeling we'll see Valencia in there though, probably ahead of Nani, *sigh*.

I really don't mind Rio and Vidic being doubts for this. Evans deserves to be starting, and if we're ever going to see Smalling/Jones hit their potential, they need to be playing too.

If Kagawa isn't played from start, I dont know if he ever will be.

Physioroom says he's back today. If that's true, I doubt Moyes will play him, which is a shame.

I hope Moyes sticks with roughly the same side he played against Southampton. Yes, we dropped points, but in many ways it was a promising performance. I'd hate to see us go back to the obviously futureless Young-Valencia approach.

if I see both of them on the team sheet I'm going to buy a bottle of whiskey and a shit-tonne of red bull, and sugar based sweets, because I'll need them to keep me alive throughout the game.

I am not expecting better than a draw from this game. Our approach has been less than positive as has the team selection and player rotation. There is something seriously amiss in the dressing room which has affected the players' mindsets. A 2-2 draw I predict

My revised squad after hearing the training reports.

De Gea
Rafael--Jones--Evans--Evra
Carrick--Fellaini
Valencia--Rooney--Kagawa
van Persie/Hernandez

Subs: Lindegaard, Smalling, Zaha, Giggs, Nani, Januzaj, Hernandez

I do want Januzaj and Nani to play but I think we should keep them fresh for the weekend and I think Valencia + Kagawa deserve a game. Tempted to start Hernandez too.

Why would Valencia deserve a game over Zaha?

What was wrong with the line up for the Southampton game? I thought it was the best line up we could have gone for considering injuries.

Aye, there was little wrong with our team selections vs Sunderland and Southampton. We just have a bunch of key players that are not turning up. A bit like City last season, with Aguero, Silva, Kompany and Hart not being near their best.

Reckon welbeck will start and that januzaj will be eased in anyway. Hopefully see same team as Southampton but I guess Januzaj on bench and for me Kagawa in for RVP/Rooney who look like they need rests anyway.

Think we need to start building some defensive consistency, keep Rafael, Evans and Evra at the least.

I agree with this. It's worrying that we don't seem to be close to figuring out who our first choice CB pairing is. We'll expect to leak goals so long as the back four keeps chopping and changing. We really need continuity there, and time for our two strongest centre backs for form a partnership. Rafa, Evans, Vidic and Evra perhaps.

Yep and also with someone like Evans I just think for the good of the team in the long and probably short future we need to keep him involved. Rio and Vidic have lots to give but at this stage with Rio particularly I really don't think there's much between him and Evans with Rio's trump card being experience. But Evans is never going to get the experience that Rio built up if he's in and out. I think Evans has shown enough that he should get a run as a fixture in defence and we should use Rio more for the odd game where his experience might be important, in case of poor form and as a general squad rotation.
