Manchester United vs Roma

Let be realistic here. Considering the news about Vidic & Brown getting knocks. I think it would be like this:

------------------------Kuzczak------------------------

--O'Shea---------Rio-------Brown(Pique)----------Evra--

----Carrick--------Hargreaves-------Scholes----

------Ronaldo--------------Rooney-------

----------Tevez--------

This's how I think it's going to be.

If Sir Alex opts to go with Hargreaves from the off, i think it then likely that means Carrick will be on the bench, all the more so if O'Shea ahs to be committed to right back in place of Brown.

Simply because Hargreaves might not be able to play out the full 90, say the lead is only one goal, we'll need some decent defensive replacement to look to in that midfield area.

Alternatively i suppose you could go with the releive the pressure approach in bring on an attacking midfielder, hmm.

somehow i think carrick should start. he scored 2 goals in the 7-1 mauling =)

Yes, I think Carrick have a good chance to start. And Vidic's injury may mean Hargraeve'll start as well, if he's ready.
Saha may start this weekend. That's how I see.

Doubt we'll hear any news that we can rely on until the team news itself, unless it is more than a mere knock and something worse, which thankfully it does not seem to be.

At countless games this season we've heard reporters at games hinting at the return of a player, or one being out for one reason or another only for them to be proven enitrely wrong.

When it's so touch and go, i imagine it'll be 7ish before people cna start specualting again.

Tight game, 1-0, maybe 2-0. ;)

You fecking idiot. do it right next time. i go in here usually just to know when it is. feckin A...

I saw Fergie comment on MUTV that there didn't train and its not a good sign when they dont train the day before a game.

Hopefully one out of the 2 will be ok to play. *Prays its Vidic*

Just put the fecking date, is it so difficult for you? And don't say this about the different styles, the badges, the place, the time and the date must be on it and I'm serious. If we don't win you are responsible for that and I'm even more serious.:p

If there must be a date for 'archival' purposes, i suppose i might include it later. Martedi 2 Ottobre 2007 or something like that.

But really, go and have some herbal tea and mellow out, a walk in the country, paragliding perhaps.

Why all this fuss from a few of you, it is beyond me.

We're conservative fussy grannys who abide by tradition and can't accept change

I predict:
4-5-1
Rooney on his own up front
Tevez on the left or benched.
Dodgy but hard fought 1-0 win

We beat them 7-1 last time because it was a must win game. The first home match of the group stage will not create anything like the pressure the lads were under last time.

One of my best mates is an Italian United fan. I asked him how he thought the wounded Roman dogs would react to coming to OT again....

I've watched Roma twice this year. Drawing against Juve and getting stuffed by Inter at the weekend. Lets just say they played better than both those results appear. Against Juve for the first half they stuffed them, played them off the park with a lot of speed and strength in the middle of the park. One thing was that they only played with one striker and the was mainly Totti, who for all his goal scoring is not that quick so our defenders can push him back and not get too tight I think we could handle him. Its gonna be tough in midfield as I do think they have a good midfield with Perrotta and De Rossi amongst others. Inter only stiffed them In the last 20 minutes, Roma had a man sent off in the first half so played for most of it with 10 men, but it was only when they absolutely crumbled near the end of the game that the result seemed to flatter Inter more than it should've done. Think its gonna be a tough one, probably won't be a 7-1 like last year but here's hoping.

I'm already drolling....

I've been dreaming for weeks that we maul them in the same fashion again and again....

attack !attack !attack!!!

The only way we can not win today is by going out there believing Roma is any better than they were last time. They're not.

Attack, attack, attack, and we'll get another massacre. Let's hope SAF has got the balls to try.

This will be a really tough game as they have added some quality players to their team.

Its very hard to predict the formation for a european game because we have so many options but I'll go with this:

----------------------------Pig--------------------------------

Brown--------------Rio-----------------Vidic--------------Evra

------------------------Hargreaves------------------------------

---------------- Scholes-----------Carrick------------------------

Ronaldo------------------Tevez-------------------Rooney

My prediction: 3-1 Utd

This should defo be the line up if Vidic is passed fit.

Mancini: We're here to win

Roma star Mancini says his side aim to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages as Group F winners, and will be coming to Old Trafford to win.

The Brazilian trickster is integral to his side's hopes of victory on Tuesday night, and he is in confident mood ahead of Tuesday's clash.

"Roma want to go through from the group stage in first place," Mancini told Icons. "So the game against United is crucial. We are never underdogs. We are going there to win.

"I think we have enough quality to go all the way to the end of every tournament. We have a great opportunity. The season has just started and so far we have been doing well."

Mancini claims his side will not sit back at Old Trafford, having learned a harsh lesson in last April's 7-1 hammering against the Reds.

"If we go there to defend we won’t lose by seven goals, we’ll lose by 15," he said. "Of course we have to attack. We are going there without any fear though we have the greatest respect for United.

"We’ve learnt our lesson and that result is an extra motivation for us. Although motivation is hardly necessary before big games like this one, in a stadium like Old Trafford."

So all out attack? Even better, should be a cracker.

hargreaves is vital, roma play the passing game so vida won't be that important compared to him.

wouldn't mind seeing pique get a chance,it'll be a good way to judge his progress and potential.

surely Carrick has to play after his performance last season.
Then again on that basis so should Fletcher, O'shea and Smith...

----------------Kuszczak---------------
Piqué----Ferdinand----Brown----Evra---
Ronaldo----Carrick-----Scholes----Nani-
-----------Rooney-----Tevez-----------

2-1: Tevez, Rooney, Totti.

I hope Vida make it, Brown can be compensated by O'Shea.

--------------------PIG---------------

Owen/Shea----Rio---------Vida-----Evra

Ronaldo-----Carrick-----Scholes----Nani

----------Rooney-----Saha------

Prediction: United 3-1.

Saha,Rooney,Ronaldo Tutti

Please let us play with attacking prowess tonight. We have been stuttering so far this season and hopefully playing top class european opposition will shock us back into life. Cmon Utd! Attack, Attack, Attack!!

I have £2 riding on this match, come on UNITED!!!!

No Hargreaves :wenger:

Great to see Vidic though

oOfficial line-up
