Manchester United vs Roma

Suprised to see Nani playing ahead of Giggs (if he's not injured that is). I know Giggs hasn't played well yet but Ferguson tends to go for experience in Europe.

Hargreves not even on the bench, fecking hell, when will he ever play???

Subs: Heaton, Pique, Simpson, Eagles, Anderson, Giggs, Tevez

That's true, but tbh I love to see nani in the starting line-up.

Giggs is playing absolutely horrible, time for him to be dropped anyway.

I think it's a good line up and it's good to have the likes of Tevez, Anderson and Giggs on the bench.

That's a bazaar team, all these games Saha could of started and hasn't yet he starts tonight?

Nani ahead of Giggs makes no sense as well unless Giggsy has got an injury

No Hargreaves again :(

Im confident now. Although it wont be long till the first spastics on the matchday thread will start whining about why giggs aint starting and nani wouldnt be good enough etc....

Why does Nani ahead of giggs make no sense to your eyes?

Maybe so, but its still a suprise that this is the match Fergie chose to make that decision.

Roma line-up

Curci
Cicinho
Juan
Mexes
Tonetto
De Rossi
Aquilani
Giuly
Perrotta
Mancini
Totti

Roma didnt come to draw

This is their line up

Cicinho---Mexes----Juan---Toneto
-----De rossi-----Aquilani----------
Giuly--------Perrota-----Mancini---
----------Totti--------------------

Why does Nani ahead of giggs make no sense to your eyes?

Fergie's probably hoping the extra pace will cause them problems (what with Cicinho being very much an attacking full-back).

Its a good team Fergie has picked there. He has made some tough decisions regarding the likes of Tevez, Giggs and Hargreaves. Anyway I expect Giggs and Tevez to join the action sooner or later. Im greatly anticipating how our team will play with the true out and out striker starting again.

It looks like the 442 we've all been crying out for.

if fergie doesnt believe giggs can play wide anymore (which is the suggestion by asking rooney to play there often) then its logically he'd put nani there and ask him to swap with ronaldo.

Damn i just realised we don't have that closing down opponents and breathing down thier neck element we had in smith and fletcher last match... no hargreaves too... nobody there to win possesion back agasint a good italian team.... on a positive note i'd like to see saha's potential in europe....

:wenger:

Saha is now match fit.He wasn't till now.

Giggs is absolutely terrible currently.

Giggs hasnt been playing good lately but he will come on the second half as super sub... Nani is very good so why are you whining? you always find anything to whine

Finally are we going to see 4-4-2 in Europe?

Hope Rooney plays upfront.

Glad to see Louis starting [and that we've not gone with all three IMO but hey]. Vidic making it also, good news indeed, one is better than none anyway.

Shame about Hargreaves, guess we just have to wait a little longer, maybe Sir Alex is going to keep him out until McClaren picks his squad for the qualifiers. ;)

As for Roma, of course a lot of attention ahs been on Totti and the threat he poses, but Giuly too for me needs a close watch from us. By all accounts it has been a good move for both him and Roma.

feck Sake, Hargreaves didnt even make the bench.

I'm suprised Nani is played ahead of Giggs if i'm honest, I know he hasnt been in the best of form but I always had the feeling SAF would play him ahead of Nani, particularly against a side like Roma. It's also ironic how many on here are calling for Giggs now that he's benched.

Saha starting is another suprise, but a good one. Tevez probably should have started ahead of Rooney based on form, but I guess Rooney has always been one of the most important players and has been playing out of position the last few games.

:wenger:

You don't know that for certain, it could have been tactical by Fergie, with the aim of getting the Rooney-Tevez partnership to prosper early on, if it were possible.

More generally, we've got a bench with soem decent options, not always had that this season. Expecting a more open game now i think, which rather, well partially, contradicts what i said in the OP but there we go. :)

I'm not whining. Look back through my sentance and tell me where I'm whining. I was merely pointing out that Ferguson has made a big decision in a big game. In fact, here's another post I made trying to tell someone who was whining why Fergie may have opted for Nani:

"Fergie's probably hoping the extra pace will cause them problems (what with Cicinho being very much an attacking full-back)."

Also, when I do post in the matchday forum I have never questioned any of Fergie's decisions... so your whole statement is rather absurd.

Maybe, or that "4-2-3-1" formation with Carrick-Scholes as the 2 and Ronaldo-Rooney-Nani supporting Saha

First they were begging Fergie to bench him and now they whine
They are never satisfied

can but dream... knowing fergie there will be some twist on it to confuse roma e.g. ronaldo and nani playing as the front men with saha wide left and rooney wide right. As usual the opposition may be surprised but its us that will suffer more in terms of lost rythm.

Excellent

No Hargreaves, plus Giggs on the bench. That means there's no possible way Fergie can play his silly three in the middle card

Roma are putting 2 holding midfielders to try to hold our attack, they will try to attack with Totti upfront and Giuly and Mancini on the wings, Perrota is supporting Totti from midfield

I think it's a good line up and it's good to have the likes of Tevez, Anderson and Giggs on the bench.

Agree. I think its wise to start with Saha and Rooney upfront. Especially at home. Then he can always bring on Tevez or a middy player to hold the game if we get 1 goal up.
