Manchester United Vs Southampton

Yeah, awful vs Sunderland and poor vs City IMO. Plus I don't think he is great on the ball which is starting to annoy me and could be particulalry important in this game.

I guess so. I'd stopped noticing that he's no great on the ball because Ferdinand's been so uncharacteristically poor on it that Vidic has looked ok by comparison. But compared to someone like Evans, who's absolutely brilliant with it, I agree that Vidic isn't the best. I'd still have him for how massively dominant he is when on form. Play him with Evans and there should be enough of a balance, especially if we opt for Cleverley over Fellaini and remind him how key it is that he's always dropped back ready for a pass from the CBs.

I wouldn't start Januzaj, and I'd give RVP a rest.

All very true, like I said, don't mind Vidic playing himself into form too so don't mind him starting but it'd be best with Evans alongside him.

About Vidic, he looks so much more composed with Rio next to him (to be expected but I'm not sure if it should be to that extent), though he's had great partnerships with some of the others he seems to charge around, committing fouls and ending up out of position a lot more without Rio on the pitch.

Why wouldn't you start Januzaj .... I think he's nailed on to start.

No time to rest VP. We need to get him back to top form. One of the few times we're probably grateful he has a couple of Holland games!

He can sit out the Norwich cup game.

His treble will sort out any issues with his personal form and so let's hope he can come through unscathed if selected midweek and be ready to transfer his international form to United.A nice brace will do a week on Saturday!

Southampton do worry me though.Very good side and defensively sound.Just the two goals conceded so far and as much as I expect a win it will be hard fought and low scoring.2-0 United with the second coming late on.

no messing around with the line up.
de gea, rafa, vidic, januzaj are all fresh.
carrick is with the england team but he is not playing so he is fresh too.
januzaj deserves a start after his brace at sunderland.
van persie is getting back his form and he should start.
i heard that cleverley had withdrawn from the england training camp with an injury so i assume fellaini should be available after playing for belgium.
a must win game, at home.
soton are a very good side these days. please no replicate of that WBA game.

I thought Fellaini needed to go for wrist surgery.

The midfield will be Carrick and one from Jones Giggs or Anderson - Cleverly and Fellaini are injured, Rooney has spent the week telling people and how he was sooking because he was playing in midfield.

Cleverley just took a little knock to the shin. He'll very likely be fine for the Southampton match.

I thought Cleverley's was a calf injury and he would be out for at least 3 weeks?

I think on form I'd pick Welbeck and Januzaj on the wings.

For me, Nani has to play. He's looked lively in the last couple of matches, and we're never going to get the best out of him if we play him for one or two matches at a time and then drop him for a couple. I'm 100% sure that if he gets a proper length run in the team he'll start ripping it right up.

Certainly isn't. That is basically our first choice XI for me right now, with the proviso of the obvious relative gamble on Januzaj. Would love to squeeze Welbeck in, but Adnan is more of a winger.

If fit, Cleverley would be challenging Fellaini, dependent on opposition.

I'd like to see a relatively fresh side. I think Moyes has been guilty of over-playing several players and their performance levels have suffered as a consequence. I imagine the international matches will take a lot out of some of the players involved.

It's not as though they would be suffering from being overused yet. I mean, it's October

You have a point with Rio but it's not an excuse for anyone else.

As many have pointed out, Southampton completely suffocated us during their last visit to OT - we were abject. They're one of the best defensive outfits in the league this season, so we're going to need to show a lot more quality in attack than we have done. I'd go for the form attackers in the hope of jolting us into life:

DDG

Rafael - Vidic - Evans - Evra

Carrick - Fellaini

Welbeck - Rooney - Januzaj

RvP

Hope VP is over his toe injury.

Read today that it was so bad he had to have an injection before the last game, and then 4 days rest before Holland's game.

Yes he scored 3, but he'll probably now miss the midweek game.

Fingers crossed, as that hatrick will do him the world of good.

Looking at form a draw would actually be a decent result for us but a nightmare for the Moyes thread, that said I feel we are due a performance and look to be heading in the right direction. Feeling positive about this.

This for me, no fecking about, go with form and a nice balance of attack and defense, they will be tough to break down.

I'd like to see Jones start. He had a terrific game against Sunderland.

Rafael
Jones
Vidic
Evra

Nani
Carrick
Fellaini
Januzaj

Rooney

Against Southampton we will need to play players who are comfortable under pressure and simply retain possession well, given how high Southampton press the opposition - more than any other side in the league. Goalkeeper is pretty self-explanatory, but the defence is what has come under scrutiny with our poor distribution from the back. Vidic, Jones, Smalling and even Ferdinand now are all uncomfortable on the ball and are often far too direct when in possession. Evans at least offers a semblance of calm and allows us to play out from the back, I think Vidic will also benefit from having a centre back alongside him who can play out from the back. Rafael and Evra speaks for itself.
Massive disappointment that Cleverley is injured, particularly for this game as he is far more suited to play alongside Carrick than Fellaini when playing high-pressure teams, as it is it'll have to be Fellaini if his wrist doesn't play up; Anderson and Giggs aren't good enough in possession, so that only leaves Fellaini as a viable option really. Scoring two goals in your last game warrants inclusion in any case, so Januzaj should start especially seeing as he can't participate against Real Sociedad. Kagawa offers a better link between midfield and attack than Rooney, so we should be able to progress further up the pitch better with more fluidity and tempo to our play. Welbeck is also very comfortable in possession, so that's why I'd opt for him.
Hard choice between Rooney and van Persie. Rooney has easily been our best player this season, but we need van Persie to hit form again and his hat-trick for Holland might be an indication he is heading that way. If he starts he might get some momentum and start scoring regularly again.

I wouldn't start Januzaj, and I'd give RVP a rest.

Why? Especially considering that he's our only attacking player who isn't involved in international matches?

I think Januzaj has to start based on his performances so far. We've got to be careful to break him in slowly as he has only just made the step up to the first team but this isn't a risk at the moment as he's had an international break without any football. I'd personally rest RVP for the champions league and put Kagawa behind Rooney with Nani and Januzaj on the wings.

I'd go for this eleven also.Interesting how Moyes has gone cold on Young,Rio and Valencia.Poor form has led to them being dropped which is how it should be.I think he has lost patience with Young a lot earlier than i'd expected which is a major positive. No mugs this lot and a positive performance with goals is what we need. Can't wait!

Did Fellaini play for Belgium yesterday?

No.

Evra, Valencia, Hernandez, Kagawa, Smalling, Carrick, Nani, Welbeck, Rooney and RVP all played for their respective countries. Zaha played U21. (I may have missed some. Evans played on the friday, as did Fellaini)

I hope that he doesn't start Giggs as he had a break - probably a better option than Ando if Cleverley/Fellaini aren't available

DDG

Rafael, Evans, Vidic, Evra
Nani, Carrick, Cleverley, Januzaj
Rooney, RVP

Get a few goals and get Hernandez, Valencia and Welbeck some game time

I know Rooney will play, but I would love to see Kagawa and Januzaj in the same team with Cleverly in the middle.

Been longing for a goal fiesta from Rooney and Van Persie for quite a long time now. High time for them to settle their differences and egos etc. and concentrate at twating the bindippers.
