Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Well last year until Almunia & Diaby had a spell of insanity they were probably the better side, with us launching long balls to Rooney who was isolated.

Ok, this threads going off course now so lets clear this up and move on, Arsenals record at OT is pretty laughable material, especially of late, performances have occasionally been good but that changes little, i could list a string of games we've lost against Chelsea at Stamford bridge over recent years that we didn't deserve to doesn't change the fact they've owned us on their turf for the best part of a decade, as we have Arsenal at OT.

Also, getting this back on track, i fancy spurs to give us a harder test this weekend than Arsenal will when they visit.

This could be the time to beat Tottenham because their defense is not strong at all. When we go to White Hart Lane, they will have Dawson, King and the others back so it might be tough. This win could really lift us up because we beat a big team with no Rooney and the confidence level of our players give go up twice the level it is now.

Im sure they drew with us in the last 10 years, a jermaine Jenas free kick earned them a 1-1 a while back for a start.

Yup, I think Silvestre got our goal.

So in the last 12 years I can remember 3 wins while Spurs have none in 20. Dangermouse.

What i originally said that got you all huffy...

They've been more of a threat at OT in recent seasons than Arsenal have to give em their due.

Ok? your the one who keeps wanting to go back 20 years etc, i wasn't even debating spurs all time record against us at Old trafford, all ive said was Spurs in recent years have posed more of a threat to us than Arsenal....and that Arsenals record against us in any competition for a while nows been pretty rank awful.

You're talking rubbish. Spurs 10-year-record at OT is 10 straight losses. They haven't won in 20 years.

Woops... you can't help but walk into it tonight, can you?

Premier League Manchester United vs Arsenal since 2002 (home and away)

United = 7 wins

Arsenal = 3 wins

Draws = 6

At OT only since 2002...

United Wins = 5

Arsenal Wins = 1

Draws = 2

(We'll ignore Champions League semi-finals)

We were talking about Spurs league record at OT over the last 10 years versus Arsenal's. Your league record at Arsenal is worse than ours at OT by the way.

I don't see the point in going back 10 years to be honest. Way too excessive.

Here's Spurs v United in the PL since 2002 (home and away)...

United Wins - 12

Tottenham Wins - 0

Draws - 4

At OT only...

United Wins - 6

Tottenham Wins - 0

Draws - 2

(Tottenham last picked up a point at OT in 2005)

This should be a cracking attacking game. I'm really not sure how Fergie will set the team up, he may go with 3 in midfield and put Park on VDV, or perhaps use Fletch on the right to combat Bale and use Carrick as a screener, it's going to be intriguing.

Isn't it enough that PoS pollutes other threads that now he has to come into match day threads and do the same ... GTFO.

Bit worried about this match, it's not so much that Spurs are in red hot form(they aren't) but our own frailties.

I'd love a clean sheet, we've only had the 1 in the league right?

At the rate Chicharito is going, I am not sure Rooney, if fit, can get into the starting lineup -- even against City.

Rafael will do more than well enough against Bale.

I think we might see Fletcher on the right with Nani on the left with Scholes and Anderson in the middle (somewhat like last season's game with Nani in place of Giggs)

I wouldnt mind a similar line up to the one against Stoke. Would change Neville for Rafael. O'Shea for Evra and maybe have Park in left mid. Saying that it could very well be 451.

tough game, the leaky defence of ours need to be more stable or else Bale, VDV and Modric are going to kill us...

We've done better at OT in the league since Wenger came than you have at Arsenal. Spurs have been shit without a win in 20 years.

This is a Manchester United vs Spurs matchday thread and i have absolutely no interest in reading whatsoever record your stinky Arse have at Old Trafford whenever i'm scrolling down. So take your filthy shite out and go open a new one in the football forum if you like to discuss this.

I thought he might've put Wes up vs Bale but as Wes played vs Wolves.....?????? then again, that's maybe why. Just thought his strength would be useful

We could start of with Chicharito on the left and Berba upfront on his own in a 4-5-1 and then slowly move Chicharito upfront to play along side Berba. We could start Scholes, Fletch and Ando in midfield. Then move Ando to the left wing when Chicha moves upfront.

I'd like to see...

--------------------- VDS-----------------------
Rafael----- Rio------ Vidic-------- Evra
Nani ------- Fletcher ------- Scholes ---------- Obertan
------------ Little Pea-------- Berbs------------------

But I reckon it'll be...

--------------------- VDS-----------------------
Oshea----- Rio------ Vidic-------- Evra
------- Fletcher ----Carrick--- Scholes ----------
-----Nani-----------------------Park----------
------------------- Berbs------------------

I think we're going to see Park central to nullify Modric or Huddlestone (whichever they've got holding at the time) like he did with Pirlo when we played Milan and Mascherano when we played Liverpool last season.

Berbatov
Hernandez Park Nani
Fletcher Scholes
Evra Rio Vidic O Shea
Van Der Sar

With the form Hernandez is in, there is no way he is not starting. Whether he plays on the left in a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 OR plays upfront with Berba, he is definitely going to start.

Man Utd usually make wholesale changes after Carling Cup games, but if anyone will start from last night, I'd imagine it would be Park as United are short on wingers. Even Carrick might be benched.

I don't think we can play Scholes as part of a midfield 2 in this game. Whatever you think of the quality of the Spurs midfield they're very accomplished passers of the ball and if we've got only a single central player with the legs to get back and tackling ability we're going to get cut apart.

Brown will play because having 2 short defenders agains the bean pole Crouch is a disaster waiting to happen.

Scholes and Fletcher will play. As will Nani, Berba, Hernandez. The real point is do we playd 4-4-2 or 4--3-3.

We need to find a way to shut out VDV. We have to close him down at all times and not give me any room to operate. Fletcher should be all over him throughout the game.

Because of our track record against Man. Utd, self-belief is the biggest challenge for Spurs in getting a result in this match.

However, self-belief may be a bit less of a problem now, given that we finished 4th last season, are playing in the CL and now have VdV in the team alongside a revitalised Bale. The 3 goals we scored away to Inter with just 10 men will also help in this regard, as will the perception that Man. Utd are less strong/more vulnerable than previously.

Whether all this will make a sufficient difference this time around remains to be seen.

Barring any fresh injury news, I expect Spurs will line up something like (edit):

-------------- Gomes ---------------
Hutton - Kaboul - Gallas - Ekotto
------- Huddlestone - Modric
Lennon ---- VdV ---- Bale
-------- Crouch (or Pavlyuchenko)

Thats 12 players! Not fair.
