Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Welbeck and Jones have the accents of true men, Northern and sexy much like my own.

Jones was quicker than i thought as well, and he even went on a big Sol style run into the other half.

Smalling is immense, his touch is just incredible and his passing and awareness too. Both brilliant today as was Evans.

Jones was immense as was smalling, cleverely and anderson. I really like the way we play this season. the second goal showed what we are capable of. Rooney also sharp.

Your posts sound like Vic Reeves, AdZz. :D

Second half was liquid football.
Impressive second half performance. Patchy first.
This shows that the team has talent, and loads of it. And creativity.

It's just the focus that was sometimes lacking in the first half. A bit of self doubt perhaps, maybe, running through the youngsters. (Often there was a 'can I play that pass' pause followed by a tangle of feet or an interception. Or sometimes the other, a too hollywood-esque pass going nowhere.)

The moment we got the goal in (And what a cross that was) , we were a changed side. Spurs couldn't get what was going on till they had that late attempt at the end.

Nani's crossing was fantastic, the best i've seen it. Corners still shite but you can't have it all!

He had one great corner, the rest weren't. But yeah his general crossing was unbelievable, that one for Rooney near the end, it was perfect. I thought he couldn't better the one in the first.

It was everyone really, the whole movement on the counter and just in general after the goal was amazing at times. We were so fluid and interchangeable, Spurs had no ability to follow our players or cut down space. Our movement was exceptional for most of that second half, also the amount of shots we had was a surprise, especially on target, we were quite wasteful really.

But the whole lot were great across the pitch, defence was completely solid, even in the first half Spurs didn't have the greatest of chances, it was open, but they weren't given much chance to exploit it, the second half there was too much pressure going forwards for them to test the back as much. Our midfield, well Cleverly and Anderson were cautious in the first, I'm not sure but maybe so we could take a bit out of Spurs so we could attack more in the second half, but I thought it was a great balance at times between them. There wasn't many occasions were they both moved forward and left a place for them to expose, and Anderson in the second was very good, intelligent passes and runs, less of the overly ambitious cross-field balls which we didn't really need.

I thought Nani and Young were fantastic throughout, Nani in the first although a bit off at times still was eager for the ball and was involved in a lot of our attack. But in the second with Smalling pushing further up, he had a bit more freedom to attack through the middle and drift out. But it was Rooney really, his ability to hold possession is insane, very similar to Scholes in that respect in just needing to nudge the ball and create a yard of space, but his acceleration means he can beat people and round them just by cutting sideways and moving in, I can't remember when I've seem him so comfortable and at ease moving forwards. He seems to have found the perfect balance in his game and it's showing.

All in all given the side we put out, the team we were facing, it was a great performance. The first wasn't good, but there were some positives out there and we still held our own, with a very inexperienced back four, well, inexperienced for us anyway. The second half was a glimpse of the future and the talent we have in our squad, our play at times was more then exciting and the performance as a whole was excellent.

They were trying to go for our young, inexperienced keeper instead and it didn't work out. They had replays of Dzeko's goal in their heads on repeat.
Yeah and I can understand. But when it was obvious they would get no joy they could at least try to attack our inexperienced defense instead? Really cowardly performance. Cheers, 'Arry.

Im stunned... that second half performance was just awsome. The best football i've seen us play in a few years, Spurs couldn't get near the ball, we were literally walking/heading it into the net.

Top post, it really was a very promising look into the future that second half. Just one thing to add to it is Anderson, nothing to do with his playing but his fitness. He was charging around the pitch even in the last few minutes and that was fantastic to see.

I would be so frustrated if van der Vaart were on our team. His decision making is awful, and he tries to do the spectacular far too often. He also demands that the team is built around him, and can have a poor attitude when things do not go his way. Sneijder is similar, and I hope we do not sign him.

Van der Vaart is what Sneijder would be like if he were 55.

By the way, Defoe can feck off for all I care. Completely unnecessary challenge on DDG.

Wanker.

Got to be pleased with that. We had a good number of shots, seventeen on a target I think. I think the pace in the team is excellent as is the balance and it goes to show you can still counter attack quickly without hoofing it. These players will only get better but we've a ton of options.

Anderson drove forward well, the link up play was swift not laboured in the second half. I think Young can still get better. His final ball will improve but we've some options. There will be tougher times, but I think we've plenty of character in the team and that runs right through the club.

thoroughly enjoyed that peformance....for such a young side we showed great patience and maturity , and like all great united team once we got 1 , we went for the kill..........exciting start to the campaign

OllieHoltMirror Oliver Holt

Shame is that if Modric had played tonight, score might have been different. Not necessarily the result but he would have had an impact

Very entertaining match overall but that second half was a joy to watch, the best football we have played in 3 seasons IMO. The midfield duo were hard working and dynamic, the front 4 were full of pace, movement and intricate quick passing, all three goals were top drawer.

It's fair to say Spurs were missing their three first choice CM's but you can only beat what is in front of you, and we did it in style!

Was at the game yesterday and was very impressed with some of the movement on show. Obviously players can't have eyes in the back of their head but space was being opened up wherever you looked. The first half was fairly even but thought we had the better chances. Our defense I thought were fantastic as a whole with everyone playing very well, and even Evans (to me anyway) is looking like the old self when he was confident and able to deal with pressure. De Gea was good I though except for a couple of small spills at the end which weren't that bad, though his slight mistake when he threw the ball needlessly early to Evans in the first half who passed it back to him causing to be in trouble was a bit of a heart in mouth moment.

Welbeck picked up in the second half of course but he does have a tendency to drift out of games and then finally drift back in, but I guess this could be due to him being the player at the top. Cleverley was also good and seemed very confident on the ball and of course Young always looked a threat when running at the full backs, though it felt like he sometimes cut back again for no reason once he'd beaten the defender.

The teams looks extremely promising, and with people like Hernandez, Fletcher coming back and Berbatov etc still waiting to play our squad looks excellent.

Congratulations, couldn't catch the match as I was away but seems to have been a good thing, it will have just been the same match we've all watched multiple times before.

Can't quite believe the central midfield we played against you (guess we can only play what we have though) or that we still have bloody Defoe upfront after so many windows.

Not really too bothered, we've gotten probably our easiest and hardest games out of the way very early and gotten exactly the result I expected in both. Neither is going to make or break our season and with the feeling around the club at the moment, as well as City's improvement, I feel next week's game, regardless of the result, is going to be similar in terms of impact.

Ferguson is a genius, just keeps on doing it over and over again.
