Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur

SAF needs to learn from this game, there is no way that selection in the first half should be used again, well......ever.

feck off AVB you cnut.

And sort it out Fergie, no need to be down 2-0 to start realizing some players just don't match up well against others.

Absolutely diabolical result.

But it can have some positive effects:

SAF finally getting it about starting Giggs and Scholes together.
That second half was probably the most determined and full of fight performance we've put in in absolute ages - maybe we can keep that mentality and shake of the passenger-vibe we've carried on for too long

Also, Scholes was majestic in the 2nd half.

Also, Defoe has to be the most greedy+ignorant player around. Does he know anything other than kick the ball at goal, even when his team is defending for dear life. What a knob.

Am I the only one absolutely bewildered by what we played in the final 15 minutes? We had all the momentum in the world and we suddenly to become the most patient time in the world and pass it around and play at a super slow tempo.

Much better second half but we paid the price for Fergie's awful awful team selection.

Yup. We basically played at a quicker tempo (still not quick enough) from the roughly 45th to the 70th minute. Other than that it was slow and laborious, and we paid the price. We basically only seem to increase the tempo when we get a kick up the backside.

That was an absolutely shit performance by our midfield and defence. We were shat on for most of the first half and conceded 2 goals far too easily.

Scholes and Carrick are immobile and slow. Throw in Giggs to that mix and we were pretty much stagnant and static for the entire first half. They offered almost no protection for the back four and Carrick was especially disappointing as he seems to have forgotten how to sprint. He plays the game at walking pace and its fecking unacceptable at this level.

I can't even blame Ferdinand for his dismal performance. Got burnt by bale and then went wayyyy too far our to try and close down defoe. He was clearly playing hurt and is not at full strength. His pace was seriously hampered and it Evans didn't help him very much either. Rafael wasn't exactly positioned very well for the third goal either.

All in all, a real shocker of a team selection. Giggs and Scholes should never start a match together. Giggs especially is just not on form at all.

It was a nice try at a comeback but spurs were almost as bad as we were at the back. This HAS to be a real wakeup call that our formation and team selection isnt working.

At least that puts to bed the myth of Rooney, RVP and Kagawa not all being able to play together.

On the bright side we won 4-3 by RAWK logic.

We just ran out of steam. Its a fitness issue most likely. Clearly the likes of Carrick and Scholes can't be out there running for the full 90. Especially Carrick, he has gotten even slower this season and now he isn't even protecting our back four very well.

It really is time to shake up the midfield instead of relying on these "automatic selections" in Carrick & Scholes. I know Scholes dictated the 2nd half but thats because spurs chose to sit back and defend their lead. He was a liability in the first half when they ran roughshod over our midfield.

I want to see us either use different combinations in midfield such as Cleverley/Anderson or go and actually buy someone who can perform at a higher level than Carrick.

should have had at least 2 penalties in that game, ref was shit.

we gave ourselves too much to do though with our first half defending.

at least Rooney is back though and hopefully our defence improves now.

Not happy about the lose today, the first half was the worst ever, second half was outstanding. Shafted the ref for 2 maybe 3 pens. Let ourselves down badly

Yes.. but the team selection isn't helping those on the pitch.. with just one change and maybe a right rollicking by Fergie, we looked a different team.. yes, we ran out of steam, but if we'd played with that attitude from the start we wouldn't probably have been in the position we were in...

That second half gave me hope, and has stopped me being completely annoyed about the loss.

We played great in that second half, and I was sure we'd get something from the game when Kagawa scored. I think we just ran out of steam and it's a shame we couldn't get a result.

One thing though is that United - Spurs matches are rarely dull.

When you don't bother to turn up until 45 minutes in you get what you deserve. The wankers

Aye. Couldn't care less about losing against Spurs, we'll bounce back and still be in contention for the title.

Thing that hurts was that cnuting 1st half display.

Does anyone else think maybe Tottenham was underestimated ?

It has nothing to do with underestimating Tottenham, we played what Fergie thought was our best team, which it wasn't. The team selection is to be blamed.

At least we gave it a go in the second half. I think the final sub should have happened with 10 minutes left. Spurs werent leaving their half so the extra striker would have been worth the gamble leaving Evans back there.

Obviously first half cost us. You would hope Fergie never starts Giggs again. In fact I would go as far as say we shouldnt start Scholes either unless we have injuries. Both should come on for impact if needed but in a way they are holding down our younger players from developing.

I agree and as soon as that first goal was scored he should have made some early changes

I think that in the first half we achieved the impossible, playing even worse than against Liverpool. Seriously, it is wrong to make the first attempt in 44 minute. I am making a blasphemy here, but I would like to see Giggs being retired like Neville did (during the season). Seriously, starting with Giggs in a match is like having a player sent off in the first minute. Also, the decision to let De Gea for the fourth time in a row in bench is criminal, especially when you consider that Tottenham were playing with a single short striker. I could be wrong, but I think that Bale's goal should have been saved without a problem from a more competent keeper. Lindegaard is a brilliant backup, but he is not near United's quality to be a first choice.

The second performance was brilliant from us, shame that we got nothing from the game cause we could have won it. But the first half performance was the worst I have ever seen from a football team ever. The worst part if that I think that Sir Alex will continue playing Giggs and Scholes together. IMO, Scholes should be used sometimes while Giggs should be only as an emergency solution. Oh, and the decision to don't play Chicha when we had the control of the game and we were pushing was criminal. Seriously, what is the meaning of having a super sub if you don't use in these cases.

1st half cost us the game. no urgency in midfield, and giggs was a non existent.

rooney came on and changed the game, but it was too late. kagawa gets better playing alongside rooney but to come back from 2 goals is a big ask today.

moral of the day is that giggs should not start against a very good team anymore, unless he suddenly regains his 2009 form yet again.
