We really should win this. Spurs are poor.

Preferred team: De Gea; Fabio, Smalling, Evans, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Cleverley, Januzaj; Rooney, Welbeck

Probable team: De Gea; Smalling, Vidic, Evans, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, Young; Rooney, Welbeck

Valencia plays 100%.. But where is the big question.. Or no it's bloody not, we're at home, let's give them a beating from minute number one.. .

This.

Knowing our luck, Lamela will probably replace Lennon and finally put in a half-decent performance.

Play Januzaj, he's an intelligent player. That's kryptonite to that clown, Walker.

The last time we played Spurs on New Years Day we lost 4-1 in 1996. Chris Armstrong is not playing this time and nor is William Prunier, so we'll be okay.

Rooney and Welbeck would give them problems. Can't see Giggsy starting two games in a row after 4 days rest.

Surely Evra can't play again?!? He needs a rest desperately even if it means playing Buttner. Would be his 5th game in the last 2 weeks

Indeed. No Lennon terrorising Evra again would be quite sth.

If Evra plays like he did first half yesterday, they could put Dawson right wing and he'd terrorize Pat!

Hope Rooney starts this, Carrick should be better than against Norwich and I'd like to see Januzaj start as well. If we win this, we'll have negotiated the period excellently.

When is RVP back?
Really need to get him and Rooney playing together. Get both of them in the team and we will have a chance this year.

Is Valencia not still banned? 1 game for the red card and 1 game for 5 yellows? Or did it somehow just become 1 game total?

I think his record is now 4 yellows and 1 red. Clearly there was a spell in the Hull match when it was 5 yellows and 0 red. I would expect him to get a one match ban the next time he picks up a yellow in a domestic match. (I may be completely wrong on this)

Moyes said RVP had done some light training (recently). A place on the bench seems realistic.

That would make far more sense actually!

Put it this way, I fancy us against Spurs a lot more than I did when AVB was still there.

Nope, after this match day the amount of yellows required for a suspension goes up to 10.

Cheers.
Even to see him on the bench would give the rest of the team a boost, let's hope he's not rushed back though.

Good job we've got an extra day's rest compared to Spurs for this.

I really should reads the end of the thread before posting!

It's worrying that out of their selection of players, we are most worried about on average winger who can barely get picked for England. I think we are the only team around who makes Aaron Lennon look like he's top class.

If Tottenham are smart they'd play the same line up they're playing vs Stoke, not just because they're winning but we'll struggle vs Paulinho and Dembele in the middle. Eriksen on the left and Lennon on the right would give them good balance too.

No we won't.

Spurs midfield is horribly overrated

Not saying their midfield is anything special but our midfield isn't exactly great now is it?
Paulinho came off injured so hopefully he misses our game. Their best midfielder I'd say.

Ours is better for me

There's honestly no point in playing Evra in this game, we've seen what happens too many times. If Buttner wasn't such a retard then I'd pick him. Where Fabio is is anyone's guess.

Moyes has to come up with something to counter that. It's such an easy outlet for them when they play us.

The very least we must do is play a hard-working winger on the left to support Evra, not Kagawa/Giggs like we did against Norwich. Even though he's in good form as a striker, I'd consider Welbeck as an option on the left wing, especially if Rooney and RVP are fit. If not then Young would probably be our best bet.

Jan 1 Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur Old Trafford Premier League
Jan 5 Manchester United v Swansea City Old Trafford FA Cup (Round 3)
Jan 7 Sunderland v Manchester United Stadium of Light Capital One Cup (Semi-finals)
Jan 11 Manchester United v Swansea City Old Trafford Premier League
Jan 19 Chelsea v Manchester United Stamford Bridge Premier League
Jan 22 Manchester United v Sunderland Old Trafford Capital One Cup (Semi-finals)
Jan 28 Manchester United v Cardiff City Old Trafford Premier League

I expect Van Persie to be back against Swansea in Premiership match...or perhaps just a sub appearance v Sunderland. Think Rooney will play v Spurs and only be played v Sunderland in the semi final.

It's a big game, so we need Evra's big game experience and in general, his ability. However, with his growing fatigue, it horrifies me what Lennon (is he in or out?) will do to him.

So in saying that and surely Moyes knows what Evra is like against Lennon, it would be funny if this is the game he gives Fabio a run in. Obviously just have a laugh but you can kind of seeing it happening.
