It seems so obvious that Kagawa-Cleverley-Carrick is the right way to go with the midfield but how in the name of god do we fit RVP and Rooney into the team then too without rendering them less effective?

Same. They will though - you can't expect any understanding between him and the rest yet, he's barely played for us.
Indeed, especially as Rooney, Hernandez and van Persie have plenty of goals while he only has 1 or 2 this season so far.

Anyone who still argues whether Scholes has a negative effect on our play need only compare our opening half hour of this game to the Newcastle game.
Indeed, the way they're playing now (especially Valencia) a 4-4-2 with no wingers and 4 central midfielders (Kagawa, Cleverley, Carrick, Anderson) or 4-3-3 with three forwards wouldn't be unreasonable.
I know. It usually takes time but as a player its frustrating for him. And i write this, there is a nice bit of interplay there.
