Manchester United vs. West Ham United

If its 0-0 on 60 minutes, you will have wished Rafael started.

If it's nil all after 60 minutes I'd rather bring Rafael off the bench than O'Shea.

We've been defending like gimps in recent weeks. I find it strange that so many people want us to NOT go with a settled back four and bring someone on who was an absolute disaster, defensively, the last game he played.

Or had Rafael started and it's 0-1 on 60 minutes after his positioning error cost a goal, and he just picked up a second yellow...

Hypotheticals work in many ways.

I see what you mean, but too many of us seem to think that Rafael is terrible at defending which is not the case. He's had plenty of games where he's been solid at the back and good going foward, whereas O'Shea has had plenty of dodgy games at the back and been poor contributing in attack.

Rooney hattrick please

Loan deals rarely benefit a player, so i personally wouldn't want to see that happening to a player who has already shown a great deal of promise.

It's fine with someone like Diouf who was on the fringes, or Welbeck who also would have had a tough time getting games. But Rafael plays in a position where the other alternatives are either very old, very injury prone, or both.

It would be folly to send him out and then find out Nev has gone down to an injury and Wes is out for 3 months with yet another of his perennial problems.

Rarely? Beckham, Cleverley, and many other United youngsters might disagree with you.

And perhaps you missed my mentioning of Brown and Neville remaining fit.

With Rio out I prefer an experienced back four as much as possible and not thrusting Rafael in there which is inevitably puts more pressure on the central defenders and midfield. Much prefer a settled back four which means O'Shea at RB for now and as long as fit.

Why does Berbatov always seem to want to cry when his headers and shots don't go in the right place.
