Manchester United vs. West Ham United

I think so too. On the wing.

I prefer seeing Ryan Giggs on left wing than Ashley Young. With Giggsy, you know there's gonna be at least one moment of magic in the game.

I've no problem with seeing Giggs or Scholes start matches. I just don't like them starting together or with someone like Carrick.

De Gea
Rafael Smalling Evans Evra
Carrick
Anderson Cleverley Rooney
Van Persie
Hernandez

Bolded players that should considered first choice every match at this point. I know the last time Hernandez started it didn't end well, and every time he comes off the bench we seem to win..

De Gea
Rafael Smalling Evans Evra
Carrick
Anderson Cleverley
Rooney
Van Persie Hernandez

I'd say these bolded players are all clear first choice players. I love Anderson and Cleverley as a partnership, but I think you have to say Carrick is the clear first choice midfielder.

When fit I think you have to add Kagawa in there, and of course Vidic. Valencia probably makes a list of top 10 outfield players as well, if you're ignoring formations.

What I want:

De Gea
Rafael Smalling Evans Evra
Carrick
Anderson Cleverley
Rooney Van Persie Welbeck

What we'll get:

Sealey
Rafael Ferdinand Pallister Evra
Welbeck Carrick Scholes Giggs
Young
McClair

Hernandez no?

I like Hernandez but personally think that Welbeck is the better all round footballer and has the potential to become truly outstanding for club and country. Especially if we tell him to backheel everything. Would like to see him get more games and play himself into a rythmn. I was very excited by natural link up he has with Cleverley, it's just a shame they've had such little opportunity to see it this season.

Understandably, not everyone will agree with me.

Hernandez no?

I'd say yes. If we play that three man midfield (which I dearly hope we do), then there'll be no shortage of creative players. What we'll need is some forwards for them to aim at. So Hernandez.

But if we only play one of Cleverley/Anderson, I wouldn't mind seeing Welbeck in there, to drop back and pick up the ball deeper if needed.

What odds on Jones or Smalling starting at RB tomorrow?

I hope not, but I do hope that Smalling will play CB as he is our best CB in the air, most likely to match Carroll - every other aspect he will have him nailed too.

Rafael is our best RB, no argument. Jones is OK, but not as good going forwards.

I like the fact that Welbeck barely scores, and Hernandez scores everytime he plays.

Pretty sure this will happen. Fergie made a point of saying Jones and Smalling are available and Rafael hasn't had a break in ages (should have sat Galatasaray out IMO)

Rafael deserves a break.

I want to see De Gea back, and hope to see Carrick, Anderson and Cleverley as middle three, with RVP, Rooney and Chicharito up front.

Unfortunately I fear we may get Giggs and Scholes, and I really don't want to see that!

The only thing about De Gea returning is big Sam tactics coupled with Andy Carroll :nervous:

But ive no worries bout this game, United minus two, lump it on

DDG (if fit); Rafa, Rio, Evans, Evra; Carrick, Anderson; Giggs, Rooney, Young; RVP

Giggs can still offer something on the wing, and besides that this would be a very balanced team. With Welbeck, Cleverly and Chicha on the bench to relieve Giggs and Anderson should they tire or for tactical changes, I'd say we'd win this match comfortably.

De Gea

Smalling
Jones
Evans
Evra

Cleverley
Carrick
Anderson

Young
Rooney
Van Persie

Others have mentioned it already, but this is the XI I'd go with:

De Gea
Rafael Smalling Evans Evra
Carrick
Anderson Cleverley
Rooney
Van Persie Hernandez

We're long overdue for a good old-fashioned sphincter shred and this is the XI I'd like to see to effectuate that objective. Then go back to rotation to cue things up nicely for City on December 9.

Sphincter shread.

Anyway, we'll go one nil down, be bullied round the pitch, and someone will get us out of jail. Again.

We're in a bit of a rut at the moment, yet we're top, just need to keep winning games.

I've posted the XI I'd like to see, but here's the one I expect to see:

Rafael - Evans - Ferdinand - Evra

Valencia - Anderson - Carrick - Young

Rooney - Van Persie

Reasons for notable omission and inclusions:

Ferdinand over Smalling: Based on fitness; assuming Ferdinand is fit while bringing Smalling back gently. Carroll can be a handful in the air but lacks pace so I think Evans and Rio are a good pairing against him.

Rafael picks himself for me at the moment.

Valencia and Young: I can see Ferguson persisting with these two until it clicks for them. Wing play is a huge part of his tactics so he'll want them to sort it out asap and that will only come with games.

Anderson is in as already stated by Fergie but despite a lot of fans wanting the Cleverley partnership reignited, it'll be the one he can trust to cover defence.

Hernandez I can see back on the bench to provide us with some impact around the 60 mark.

Rooney and Van Persie back together up top in a partnership that flourished early season before Rooney dropped deep.

My gut tells me we will see a traditional United rampage, I am also confident we'll keep a clean sheet for once. Thus, I'm predicting 4 or 5 to nil. I am also expecting Rafael to be rested, Smalling taking his place. Is Valencia fit? If no, I'm hoping we'll play a diamond.

For those in the US/access to US channels - the match is live on ESPN 2 and ESPN 3, which is somewhat surprising, but I'll take it!

Giggs is not in the squad tonight.

Source is the resident RI member who works with the team. He didn't reveal anymore.

Thank feck.

Hope Fergie isn't 'resting' him for City away though.

Though it's completely understandable concidering their form lately, it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth to see our supporters talk about such legends like that.

It's a two way street. Senior players deserve respect and it is undeniable that they enhance our squad with their ability and experience, however they are playing at a high level and their age sometimes hinders them.

Maldini was scrutinized in his latter days at Milan too.

It's a disgrace.

I think a disgrace is a bit harsh tbf. It's fair to assume every one of us love and appreciate Giggs and Scholes for what they've done for our club, but they're both 38 and should not be starting games anymore.

Thought it was pretty straightforward really.

Dennis Law's a Legend, doesn't mean I want him starting games in midfield.

Yes it is understandable, and, especially in the case of Giggs, if they haven't played that well this season, why should they keep getting selected in front of the likes of Cleverley and Anderson?

It's hardly showing disrespect to players who have been superb for United but simply do not have the ability or speed longer.

By the way, the lack of form should be just as relevant for the likes of Young.
