Manchester United vs. Wigan Athletic

The moment we got a goal ahead, we looked better, somewhat more confident and assured. That's so like us.

not really, usualy we would sit back after scoring one, good to see that wasn't the case today, although in all fairness they'd probably be scared to come back into the dressing room if the 2nd half was anything like the 1st.

EDIT: didn't know this was Scholes' 700th game for United, what a way to mark it :)
Oh and also, every one of our summer signings scored on their Old Trafford debut

Big fat deceiver. My crappy Chinese stream did show that it was outside the box, what I am not sure is if it was a smash or carrick type of shoot. Where hits it hard, but it actually is just a long pass.
So was it a Schole's hit or a Carrick hit?

It was a controlled drive - if there is such a thing.

Nice to see a second string team decimate wigan in the second half. Only real qualm I had was the poorly taken penalty. Second match in a row where someone chose to place the ball instead of blast it. Never quite understood that.

Nonetheless, was a good performance from Chicharito and co. Great to see Buttner settling in so well and despite a nervy start he really impressed in the second half. Great run to get his goal and shows no fear going forwards and taking on defenders. Tough as nails too.

Yet again the best player on the park was a 38 year old. Paul Scholes running the show and putting in some cringeworthy challenges as usual. Typically well taken goal from him and once that goal went in you just knew the floodgates were opened.

I was impressed by Nani too who looked dangerous all match long. The one player that struck fear in the hearts of the Wigan defenders. Shame he didnt bring his shooting boots with him today but you could tell he could create something or get a goal scoring chance almost at will today.

Good shift put in by Chicharito and Welbeck. They worked really hard especially closing wigan down and even though Chicharito scored, neither was especially sharp in front of goal. Hopefully that will change with a couple more matches under their belts.

What a strike by Powell too. The new gibbo ;)

yes, my favourite part of todays performance.

To be fair to the lad the whole contract issue can't be helping, he has been an outlet of sorts in the Second Half. I think it says a lot he can produce 2-3 good crosses a game minimum. At his best he can be phenomenal but he needs a bit of love at the moment moses.

He can end that by signing.

That aside he'll get very little unearned love from me. Even at his devastating best he's not my kind of footballer. He'll have the same understanding of the game when he retires as he had when he signed.

Prediction:

Dire game where we struggle to get possession.

Giggs to play inside with Welbeck wide.

Scholes to play too deep and Carrick expected to play forward but for him to have nobody alongside him in the final third to pass to.

Despite being a pedestrian, losing the ball various times and floating it onto the head of the oppositions centrebacks a few times all the while we are crying out for Kagawa to replace him... we will eventually see Kagawa replace Welbeck around the 70th minute and for Giggs to be pushed wide to complete his 90 minutes.

Hernandez will be caught by the offside trap numerous times as he runs around looking for an opening with no support.

Nani will be a man on a mission to win the thing by himself and we can toss a coin to see which Nani that will produce.

I'm in a positive mood and looking forward to this. Clearly.

So not a single one of that was true. Well done. A clear example of pre match gimpness.

moses, he's class. Never really brought the whole decision making bollocks, sometimes he can hold on to the ball too much and do silly things but the amount of chances and goals he creates I think it's far too harsh to say he's cack at making decisions. He wasn't brilliant today but he created a goal and a few other chances.

He has that flair we need, also I also think we might be taking the piss with the contract offer.

The last line is completely nonsensical unless his understanding of the game is going to reduce with time in the future.

Call it what you like but his needless fannying about when he's not on full throttle is as debilitating for our momentum as a full blooded tackle is positive. He doesn't think a good game and can't ease himself into a game when Plan A doesn't work. And that hasn't improved, which is my point. I don't see a change in that department at all. He has improved somewhat, but maybe as a result of one of the world's best managers in his ear for the last few years, but we all would improve somewhat in that situation. He is not a cerebral enough footballer in my opinion. I don't get involved in the love or hate bollox about players that goes on here, so while Nani can be devastating, he is not my kind of footballer.

He can be class and he is a valuable player for us, but I just don't warm to his style the way I do with other footballers. If we are taking the piss with the contract then maybe others share my opinion.

sure it was, we believe you.....

Thank goodness for that, there I was thinking my immaculate reputation as a level headed, insightful, intelligent and all round respected poster had been tarnished.

without 3 of our best players(RVP,Rooney and Valencia), we did well winning 4-0...RVP's cameo does not count.

With our defenders slowly coming back and our new full back being impressive, this is the first time I have felt good since the season started.

...and we are just a point off the top.
