Manchester United vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers

If I were SAF I wouldn't play any of Nani or Valencia, they should be rested for Stoke. I'd go for Tosic/ Welbeck. We need the kids to get games, If we're losing I'm sure in the 2nd half we'd bring better players on. Owen needs a full match to regain match fitness and this is the game to do it. Macheda will certainly get a game. De laet with his preseason form must have been waiting for this match for ages. So has Fabio. Evans hasn't played so he probably will play. I'm Expecting Carrick to get the chains off him with Gibson pairing up with him.

MU: PIG, Fabio,Evans,G.Neville,De Laet,Gibson,Carrick,Tosic,Welbeck,Macheda,Owen.

Maybe Carrick will finally pull his head out of his ass, he surely will be starting, hopefully he has a good game and gets back on track or at least shows some improvement.

Well lets hope, if he this game won't get him started I don't know what will.

Our defence is very strong isn't it, for me I'd like to see Craig Cathcart given a game, but looking at the fact that we've got Neville, Fabio, Evans, Brown, De Laet, plus possibly Rio for match fitness, it's not looking good for the youngster.

didn't he go out on loan?

Manchester United Squad
Kuszczak, Zieler, Amos, De Laet, Neville, Brown, J Evans, Dudgeon, Fabio, Tosic, Gibson, C Evans, Eikrem, Carrick, Scholes, Valencia, Nani, Owen, Welbeck, Macheda, King

Starting 11

---------Kuszczak

Neville Brown J.Evans Fabio

Welbeck Carrick Gibson Nani

-----Owen Macheda

Subs
Amos
De Laet
C Evans
Scholes
Tosic
Valencia
King

Looking forward to this game. Good to see the younger playes getting games.

According to MEN:
TOMASZ Kuszczak is set for his first senior action of the season in the Carling Cup against Wolves at Old Trafford.
...
Meanwhile, Michael Owen is set to be rewarded for his Manchester derby match-winner with a place in United’s starting line-up.

Owen has started just one game so far this term but is set to double that tally against Wolves, with Sir Alex Ferguson set to make huge changes to the side that began Sunday’s amazing victory over City.

Wes Brown should take a central defensive berth alongside Jonny Evans.

Manchester United (from): Kuszczak, Zieler, Amos, De Laet, Neville, Brown, J Evans, Dudgeon, Fabio, Tosic, Gibson, C Evans, Eikrem, Carrick, Scholes, Valencia, Nani, Owen, Welbeck, Macheda, King.
Obviously we'll have only one goalie on the bench, so only two of the outfield players in that list will be left out. I reckon two of C. Evans, Eikrem, Dudgeon and King will be the disappointed ones.

Team?
PiG. Neville or De Laet, Brown, Evans, Fabio. Gibson, Carrick, Nani, Welbeck. Owen, Macheda. Perhaps?

Neville is still higher in pecking order than De Laet, so it's probably Gaz tomorrow.

Nani & Welbeck...

Won't be surprised if we start with Tosic and Nani, but I can see Nani on the bench, because 1) we have three matches in one week again, 2) Welbeck won't get many chances to shine.

Neville is obviously higher in the pecking order, but that's not the only consideration when a carling cup team is being picked, that much is obvious. But yeah, Neville need some game time so he'll probably start. I think the back five is a given.

Would love to see Joshua King in action, never seen him before.

I understand both him and Eikrem are doing good things.

It`s funny for a Noggie to have three exciting young Noggies being developed at the best club in the world under SAF and Oles watchful eyes.

I'd like to see:
PIG
Neville
Brown
Evans
Fabio
Valencia
Gibson
Carrick if Scholes is out
Tosic
Owen
Berbatov

Subs:
Amos, De Laet, O'Shea, (Carrick if Scholes plays), Nani, Wellbeck, Macheda

I think Berba needs to play to try to get a goal otherwise i would have started Kiko as it would be interesting to see him and Owen play.
Valencia could also do with a confidence boost.
I can obviously see SAF starting Nani instead of Tosic but i would love to see him get 90 mins under his belt.

Yeah no Berbatov. I expect Owen and then it's between Wellback and Macheda.

From that i get:

PIG

Fabio
Neville
Brown
De Laet

Tosic
Gibson
Carrick
Welbeck

Macheda
Owen

subs: Amos, Evans, Dudgeon, Nani, Scholes, Valencia, King

King looks a tidy player, a big lad too. Wouldn't mind a chance to see him in the first team to see how he fairs.

I'd say now:
Kuszczak, Neville, Brown, Evans, Fabio, Nani, Carrick, Gibson, Welbeck, Owen, Macheda
SUBS: Amos, De Laet, C Evans, Valencia, Scholes, Tosic, King.

According to the MEN article I posted above Jonny Evans will start so luckily we'll likely be spared Gaz the Centre Back.

To be honest I'd rather see Welbeck on the wing and Macheda up front than Tosic. I thought he was poor against Liverpool.

EDIT: My post was a reply to Xander. I concur with Nemanjamagic.

Don't know enough about Dudgeon, Eikrem or King to include any of them.

Ah i missed that in the article. But you should know better than to try and guess Fergie's line ups.

To some of other posters, Dudgeon is a young left back who likes to get forward and gets stuck in. Probably positional better than the brazilians from what i've seen but not as talented with the ball. Pretty solid in the air as well.

Eikrem has a face that looks like he's been hit with a spade, but is a pretty neat little centre mid. Can spray the passes about and takes a mean freekick.

Haven't seen a lot of King as he was mainly academy until this season. From what i've seen he is a strong lad that can look after himself and his pace is impressive.

I assume MEN has someone in the know, but maybe not.

I just posted some comments from OGS on King and Eikrem in the reserves forum:

King
- He's a lot like John Carew. Same type of football, same type of build. Same type of everything, really. I know John well. John said that if he's been as dedicated as me, he'd be among the three best strikers in the World. He'd rather live life a little, and focus on the football 90%. I will make sure Joshua go for it 100%. Then we have a future striker for the national side.

Eikrem
- Magnus has taken a very, very big step this summer. He listened to our advices, and did as we said he should. Now he's back as one of the leaders of the reserve team. So this season he's one of those the team is built around. That benefits hisdevelopment too, he's started very well this season. (Appearently a number of dutch clubs want to take him on loan, but for now he'll stay in Manchester.)

Last season eight reserve players got their first team debut. Will any of the Norwegians get theirs this season?
– No, I doubt it. But they've all made great leaps forward, says Solskjær.

I would expect a Owen & Macheda strike force tomorrow I think they played with each other a couple of times in pre season with both scoring.

They actually looked pretty good together but of course the opposition weren't much.. Macheda playing a bit deeper than Owen and thus creating space for Owen..

Any info about the Wolves' line-up? I have only seen the Wigan(A) game and that game they played very smartly and won the game 0-1.

They've bought a new striker (Stefan Maierhofer) who is taller than Crouch (2,02m) who will probably start upfront today. Ebanks-Blake has returned to the squad after being out for a while due to injury as far as I know, but I've no idea how serious they'll take the trip to Old Trafford in the end.

My guess is - you got the team spot on....

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has vowed to be bold when his side face Manchester United in the Carling Cup.

McCarthy, who will hand starts to strikers Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Stefan Maierhofer and winger Michael Kightly, believes going to Old Trafford to try and frustrate United would be a mistake.

He is not prepared for his team to sit back and defend for 90 minutes and try to catch United on the break.

McCarthy said: "We will play 4-4-2 against them and have a game with them. I don't know what team Sir Alex Ferguson will play but we will play whoever he turns out.

"But we are not going there to sit back and have them attack us for 90 minutes. That would be a recipe for disaster so we will be going up there and trying to make sure that we are on the front foot for the game.

"I have never beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford in anything but we want to try to win the game."

david jones might play for them

no idea what side wolves might put out .. hope we dont go in with too many kids ..
i still remember watching coventry knock us out at OT 2 seasons back

I fear we might lose this one against a good Wolves team...

Nice to have a League Cup game, reduces the stress level a lot after last game and always fun to see some of the younger players.
Hope we'll see Fabio, Macheda and Wellbeck

Jacob's prediction

Line-up:

-------------------------Kusczcak-------------------------
Neville------------Brown----------Evans---------De Laet
Welbeck---------Carrick---------Gibson------------Nani
-----------------Macheda---------Owen------------------

Score: Manchester United 2 - 0 Wolves

Goals: Owen, Nani

Player to watch: Welbeck

Was reading MEN online and saw this comment about tonights match and what team to go with...

i think that when owen gets his shaprness and fitness back, a his speed (which you can do using leg and ankle weights) then he will be a whole lot more effective and will add an extra dimension. we will be playing 442 i beleive, however.....as a thought, play 4,3,3 with owen, rooney and berbs on at the same time

the future is bright, the future is red

who are these people?
