Was quieter in the second half but I'm not worried about that given how new he is to this club and this level. Great to have a strong midfield again and the amount of passes we had in the game reflects the confidence the team have giving him and Carrick the ball.

Broke up play well, decent passing, looked comfortable beside Carrick. Pretty much all we could've expected from him. Good start.

Absolutely nothing in that performance to suggest we needed to sign him and especially for the most we've ever paid for a midfielder. None of our immediate issues were resolved. On the plus side, I've already watched him play far better matches for Everton this season so theres definitely more to come.

Kind of disappeared in the second half, and got turned by the Bayer players easily once or twice. But I'll be taking encouragement from the first half, showed all the signs that he and Carrick could form a great partnership.

Considering the fact that he hasn't even been training with us for two full weeks yet, I thought he was bloody excellent tonight.

He's looking like a quality signing that is going to improve us as a team.

Wasn't great tonight but the team as a whole looked very solid with him in the side, his ability to win aerial duels from goal kicks is quality, results in us gaining possession nearly every time.

He was great at winning the ball back, which is his job. His passing was erratic when he was attempting the less safe passes.

Looked solid alongside Carrick. Great to see 2 proper CMs in there. Hopefully his start here has gone some way towards removing the misconceptions people have of him.

Good performance I thought. Won most battles, shrugged off the big Bayer lads with ease pretty much every time. Just a presence we've lacked for some time. Looking forward to seeing more of him alongside Carrick.

We looked anything but solid. For a team that were dissappointing and none of their attackers showed up, they scored twice and got at our backline plenty

Jaysus ye're easily pleased lads I'll give ye that.
I'm pleased we've finally got a ball winner in midfield. Yes. Absolutely.

I wouldn't say he is all that we needed. But part of it. I saw plenty of things that showed how much we can use him tonight. He broke up play. He won the ball - often quite easily. When Cleverley came on (I rate him btw) he did mostly what he's criticized on the Caf for doing, namely passing sideways and back. I struggle to see another ball winner in midfield who gives us physicality. The price was at least 4.5m too high and DM's explanation was lame. But I'd certainly rather have him in our side than not.

Wouldn't surprise me if he shows how much we gain from having him against City and Toure.

I think Rooney thrived due to having reduced defensive responsibilities. Carrick and Fellaini give us a very solid midfield.

Some people just can't admit they were wrong about Fellaini and never will I reckon.

You've got to be blind not to see the how much better our midfield and team as a whole is with him on the pitch.

He did what he always will do and did before at Everton. He is brilliant in physical combat and will win the majority of the 50/50s, good in the air due to the fact he's about 7 foot tall. Will keep it nice and simple on the ball as he doesn't have the ability to play eye of the needle stuff. Passing becomes very erratic if he overcomplicates matters. He is a solid footballer. A £27.5m centre midfielder and the player to help take us to the next level in Europe? No chance.

Good performance, definitely adds some extra power and solidity to our midfield. He will definitely become more influential as time goes on, he will be an ever-present in our midfield before long.

Couple of very solid performances. Very tidy, keeps it simple, strong, better at passing then a lot of us thought.

A very decent start indeed.

He'll have to be strong defensively if we're playing Rooney further forward and fielding Kagawa more.

Not sure if Nani will come back into it soon, but with that as a front 4, Carrick and Fellaini will need to be very disciplined.

He's obviously our 2nd best midfielder after Carrick, so he should start all the time. There's no disputing that.

But despite him intercepting the ball and being a strong physical unit, we still conceeded from our fullback being out of position (Evra), Fellaini covering him positionally but not trying to win the ball, then the play is switched and pulled back and they score from a deep midfielder arriving to support the attack. Exactly the kind of thing you play a deep central midfielder to do, snuff out that danger from supporting midfielders around the edge of the box. We didn't just have one, but two of them, and still conceeded the same way. Imo this is partly down to the system we used having 2 "Carricks" who mostly hold but now and again get forward. I don't particularly rate it, and I think its silly to conceed the first goal we did whilst using that system as thats the whole point of it.

I can't remember alot of saves being made by De Gea, it was more the defence that was to blame... centre-backs in particular. But I think we looked the bigger team and in Europe that aura's been missing for a couple of years, I felt we had that today. Even when we went 1-1, I was feeling confident we'd still win - am sure many others felt that.

I thought he was good positionally and broke up play well but pretty sloppy in possession, decent start though.

I agree with this, Rooney was able to stay further up field and it was significant in our improved attacking play.

So lot's of positives? So why don't you improve your life by ignoring the fee.

Brilliantly argued. As usual.

So anyone who doesn't think he's shit is an idiot?

Anyone who calls my point nonsense. Some are clearly going a little over the top. He was fine but will need to do more to prove himself over time. And he has that time

At no point whatsoever did I think we were going to loose. Was pissed when they scored regardless, though!

Well, he's solid and neat on the ball, and he breaked up play well today.

He does go walkabout at times - like the Bender chance, when he allowed Bender to walk past him and then failed to track his run - but he does put a good shift in and moves the ball on well.

We looked solid but not really cohesive in an attacking sense, although I agree it looks like Rooney thrives on having less defensive responsibility. Seems like Moyes wants us to play with two holding midfielders.

Okay I agree with that for sure. I think for most of the match we definitely looked like we were going to win. And yes I thought Ferdinand was poor

It was nonsense, people were commenting on the game not some ignorant preconception as you claimed.

Nobody had gone overboard when you made that nonsense post.
