Well what were doing now isn't working. Our football is shit and we're not winning games, feck it, go route one, stick him up there, it might shake it up a bit. It's not like our midfield are good at keeping the ball, so just fecking bypass them anyway.

We are bypassing them we've played more long balls than any other team in the Premier League...

...its still not working.

I don't blame Fellaini for his price tag or for not being all that good so far, as I didn't believe he was worth £27.5 million in the first place.

If you're going to blame Fellaini for his lack of mobility and technical prowess you may as well blame water for running out to sea. He is what he is. We all knew that because we'd all seen him play in the Premier League for years. Sadly, what he is is not what we need.

The anger comes from the fact that many people could see he was no number 8 but for whatever reason the powers that be at Old Trafford could not. Had we saved what we spent on Fellaini and added £3 million more to that sum we could've bought Ander Herrera, who actually is a number 8 and plays the role significantly better than anyone on our books.

I don't undersrtand the Fellaini hate today. He wasn't very good, but we looked a lot worse once he went off. I would blame Moyes and his subs more than Fellaini today. Fellaini on - Giggs off was the mistake. Or was I just seeing something different?
You must have saw something different if what you saw was Fellaini on and Giggs off.

Why the feck did we not sign James McCarty from Wigan or give it all to sign a great player like Ander Herrera. This signing is up there with Bebe (because of the fee).

Herrera is a "great" player now?

Do you really see him as a £30m+ signing and club record transfer?

That's not true. All in the buyout would have come to 45 million.

My first instinct when we were linked with him in the summer was he was not the sort of player we want in midfield, or indeed the quality of player we needed in midfield. I changed my mind a little as time went on as I felt his physical and aerial dominance would be a big asset. The most disappointing thing so far is that's not even been demonstrated even slightly, he loses his 50/50 duels in the middle of the field and I've not really seen him bully anyone off the ball or use his strength to his advantage.

Victor Wanyama looks a carthorse who cant even pass a stationary object or a t-junction, yet just by being more energetic he had Fellaini today.

Its truly tragic. On the edge of the D backing into defenders Fellaini can be a handful and his lack of mobility isn't an issue but when you put him in centre midfield its totally different. Belgium compensate for the fact by having other quicker, more gifted players behind him and run beyond him from deep but we're not playing Fellaini in the hole and so his best attributes aren't available to us. Given that we had Rooney and Kagawa for that role anyway I'm puzzled as to why we spent £27.5 million bringing him to United but I hope he starts playing out of his skin and proves me wrong.

Lallana went past him like he wasn't there. Just before he was subbed. Lallana went on a bit of a run, came up against Fellaini, and just waltzed by him. What are his best attributes? The player says he's a defensive midfielder. Some fans say it's the Rooney role. Judging by today's performance, it's not the former and he's no chance of displacing Rooney for the latter. So what to do? Moyes must have some idea. He bought him.

Moyes wasted money on a player who will never improve us and will be impossible to sell.

We were better off signing Ozil than this guy. I'd rather have a shit midfield and Ozil .

Hell I'd take Jones in midfield than Fellaini and that is saying a lot.

Fellaini was the signing many didn't want as they knew that he really doesn't offer us much but then like fans we always suspend reality and hope that our past misgiving were just our tribal instincts overriding our rational thinking.

This is one deal Woody should have screwed up. With near on £30m Moyes is going to find it tough to sign another midfielder.

This.

I didn't think he was what we needed but, at first, I did try to do a 180 and look the other way on what had made me conclude that he wasn't the #8 we needed.

Unfortunately Fellaini's performances have reinforced my first impression. Genuinely think for what we paid we could have signed a better centre midfield option.

Moyes is forced to play him and it affects our midfield as he is neither a foil to Carrick or a compliment in fact he is worse than Carrick at defending, passing, tracking, dribbling in fact he only excels at fouling.

He's just not a defensive player. Odds are he was bought to help fill the hole when Rooney leaves in the summer.

I highly doubt that. Moyes said he wanted a CM and Fellaini is the one he signed.

Anyone who watched Everton knows that's not where he played. He was always further up the pitch, far more offensive than defensive. You never saw him playing the way he is now playing for United.

And he was only played there because Everton had nobody better. Why would he say his best position his CDM? Why would Moyes agree too?

Because he was the new United signing and Moyes told him where he'd be playing.

I don't put much in what people say. I put it in what they do. English seem to get excited over words. I find it odd.

That is not true - he was playing in exactly this role for Everton for large parts of last season.

He was averge while in posession and needs to improve that but did a sufficient screening job - Southampton didnt look like scoring while he was on the pitch.

It wasnt a great performance, but the criticism is way OTT

This I agree with. He was clearly better than Jones in that position.

But he also gave the ball away far too much

I laughed at Moyes' MUTV interview on Friday when he said Fellaini's wrist op could be deferred for up to two years! fecking hell...

Agreed, I would say he was quite poor in offering us anything going forward but he did a defensive job against a very good Southampton team. A lot of his defensive work goes unseen, he closes a lot of passing lanes and screens quite well, something stats don't show.

I wasn't a fan of the signing but agree some of the criticism is way over the top.

Extremely disappointing in his performance vs. Southampton. His worse in a United shirt.

I mean, this big stocking of shite allowed Southampton to stroll through the middle at times. Isn't it his job to stop opposing players? I'll give him a season at least, but he really doesn't look a Manchester United player... I was more impressed with Gibson when he was here. :nervous:

Indeed. However what I've found strange is that almost everyone ( in here and in the press) seems to be saying he gave away the ball so much. Yet his passing accuracy and number of passes is the same as Carrick's. No wonder few people trust statistics.

It's been said, but Fellaini's passes were often behind the player receiving the pass or not with the correct weight on the pass; they can be considered 'accurate' passes, but they can't still be appalling ones. Carrick's on the otherhand were intelligent passes that helped play us out of danger/pressure, or incisive forward passes. The one thing you can be assured of is - stats or no stats - the quality of Carrick's passing will far outweigh Fellaini's.

I can't say I watched Everton a lot but every time I did, Felliani spent most of his time in the opponents final third. He was a 10. Not to mention, when we signed him everyone was moaning that he shouldn't replace Rooney, so I'm not sure why you guys think he played this same position for Everton.

Fellaini's lack of mobility means he cannot play as a holding midfielder. The Southampton game was clear proof of this. He got beaten too easily, and he can't tackle hard for a big guy. So what's his best position ? As the big centre forward who can make the ball stick upfield ? If so, that's an expensive miscalculation by Moyes cause the No.10 position is where we are an excess of good player eg Shinji.

This is the problem. He isn't a holding midfielder. So if we're going to play a player out of position, I'd rather play Kagawa - granted he might not have much in the way of defensive instinct, but then neither does Fellaini. At least Kagawa can pass well, a trait that in itself can be defensive, in that it keeps possession. At this point, Fellaini is looking like a disastrous buy.

When people complained about him being a target this summer the replies from some were "He'd instantly be our second best CM" but quite a few of us argued that he offered no more than Cleverley, he is not this physical midfield beast some seemed to think he was.

I could see the suggestion of him playing behind RvP when Rooney goes being close to the money.

He is better used as backup for Carrick, and Cleverley should play alongside with Carrick.

I thought it would be extremely difficult for us to a sign a bigger flop after Berbatov.

In comparison, the Berbatov signing was a steal when you compare it with Marouanne fecking Fellaini! I never wanted this turd. I said if he was our absolute last choice then maybe, but now I feel like I would have taken nothing instead.

It's still early days but he has been horrendous. Horrible signing thus far. Horrible, horrible signing.
