How about passing? You know, the main part of a midfielders job.
I don't think we bought him for his outstanding passing ability. I see him more as a ball-winner; someone Moyes will use to break up the opposition attacks upfield rather than a creator of chances. It's certainly a position we've needed to fill for a while now since Keano left and Fletch got sick.

I doubt we will use it "because we want to score and it is 10 minutes left".
However RVP and Fellaini has certain benefits when a team plays utter rubbish football as Kagawa/Rooney requires a team playing better overall football to be dangerous and threatening.
So there will be games when he gets used as that but it will be a last resort more than anything.
He can pass though, and you'd think his passing stats would improve further as our players will increase his options.

Probably. He's not a bad player at all. Moyes knows his strengths and will use them accordingly.
Given that Moyes has already talked about how he can play off a striker that is what worries me.
If he starts playing Fellaini there ahead of Shinji too I'll start worrying about Klopp's sanity.
Cleverley can pass too. Just not well enough. I dearly hope I'm wrong on this but this is the most worried I've ever been one of our first team signings. I just don't think he's good enough and what he is good at is not a way I want to see Utd play. That no other club was willing to match his release clause says a lot for me.
Depends entire on the opposition and the situation. I mean if its Stoke and we're playing well anyways without luck in the finish, you'd want us to continue playing it around. If we're having a shit day on the pitch though, no problem at all in doing that,
Cleverly can pass, not enough to make up for how little he imposes himself on a game, but very very few players can play at a top club solely on passing ability. Fellaini has quite a bit to his game and quite a bit that all of our other midfielders lack.
Bugger Klopp, I'd be more concerned for Kagawa's.
Depends on what you expect from him. If you expect him to be our midfield talisman and win games from us from there, you're in for a disappointment, he isnt going to do that.
What signing him does, and has been pointed out quite a few times in the thread, is finally gives us a solid middle 2 to rely on thus allowing our front 4 to go all out and attack. Though he wont be spectacular on his own, if used well, he'l improve the team considerably. With Fellaini and Carrick in the middle, we can use the likes of Kagawa, Rooney and Nani to have a real go at the opposition rather than play the likes of young because they add more defensively.
He'l turn out to be a very good signing if used properly, am sure of that. Considering our manager is someone who's worked with him for a long time, no reason why he wont be either.
Wouldn't surprise me at all. Of course I don't expect him to start every match as a No.10, but I wouldn't be surprised if he will play there in many games, being favored instead of less big but technically better players.
All summer I was going to be quite happy if only player United signed was Fellaini and kept the rest of the squad from last season. Today, with everything else that went on during the summer and especially on deadline day, I just can't that happy feeling going. Hopefully once I see him turn out for us and turns out to be the very good player in CM along side Carrick - then is when I'll really be happy as this signing should make me.
I'd agree with that.
I would point out too (for a general discussion) that even had we triggered the buy-out clause there is reason to believe that another club (like the Arse) wouldn't have jumped in and done the same. From what I understand that would have started a straight auction for the player so there was no guarantee that we would have got him for the buy-out number.
I can't see him being used as a No. 10 here, unless the rare case of a team being incredibly weak to target men pops up, like we used to be.

I think he's a far more rounded player than lots on here are giving him credit for. Gives us some much needed muscle and is far more creative than some people think. He's great at winning the ball back and very good at keeping it.
Well, not one of those players had a release clause. So not quite the same. Plus there's no way Arsenal weren't intersted in Rooney.

All those low-ball offers count for nothing if you then end up overpaying at the end of the window. Selling clubs are then further incentivised to hold off until the last minute, as there's a good chance we'll stump up more cash.

As otherwise why on earth would there be an auction when there is a set buy out clause. You hit the fee, that's it, it doesn't matter if another team offer more, unless that was amazingly put in the contract too,.

No if you just compare them individually but they bring totally different things to the team.
Without seeing how the clause is written, it may well be that meeting the buy-out by 2 clubs would allow Everton to auction the players contract.
