You know that Fellaini has played less game for us this season than Cleverley, right?

No, of course you don't.

I'm talking about who has played more in the english premier league. You keep saying Cleverley has played more than him yet you fail to understand Fellaini has played and started more league games than Cleverley overall (with Everton and United). The fact that we're even comparing the two shows much of a massive flop he's been. So shit.

And I absolutely give 0 ( zero ) feck about what he's done at Everton because he's at United now and that's the only thing that interests me right now.

He's getting shit in amounts that's inadequate to what he's performing.

we're having a lot of games this year where we're glad there's a midweek game looming aren't we!!

Roll on Wednesday. That suddenly becomes a really critical game, we don't want qualification going to the last game.

Because I don't see you posting the same shit about a player who has been here for 3 years now and produces the same performances that you have just mentioned, that's why.

That's because this is the Fellaini thread. Yeah, 'Fellaini thread'.

Bullied us for years, now is in our midfield and looks completely out of his depth. We laughed at Liverpool for spending 35 million on Carroll. This guy cost 7 million less and has been just as effective. Poor player for us so far. Really hope he can turn it around because at the moment he looks so far from A united player it's not funny.

Needs to improve massively to be anywhere near United's first team.

But when he's playing on us, bar probably one or two matches, he is on the defensive duties. No, this doesn't mean that he's forbidden to make some decent passes or to attack the opposite goal but he should be mostly judged on the defensive part of his game, and he's done good in that area today.

As said, we've needed more than that into our midfield, we needed a passer or a decent box to box midfielder, we've got Fellaini and now people are expecting him to execute every single role there is for a midfielder.

Not really but for a £27m midfielder he's expected to do more than just break up play. If that was the case we should have went for Mulumbu at least he'd be cheaper.

Living there or supporting it?
This thing cost over £27 million, I have to laugh.

He'll do as a squad player I suppose... My concern is that today is the type of game I'd hope for him to perform in. And he didn't. He looks completely out of his depth unfortunately. I'm hoping he can turn it around, but I'm not sure how he can. He isn't bossing teams like he did at Everton. He fouls a lot. Wins headers, sure, but doesn't pick out United players all that much with headers so that's a pointless exercise too. Watch as he scores the winner against Tottenham now only for this thread to erupt with all the top reds proclaiming to have always had faith in him. Even you pro Fellaini heads must be worried.

Really trying to support him, and I am trying not to be too negative about him but he has offered and promised almost nothing.I want him to turn it round but I don't see how he can.I thought he'd add some metal to the midfield but no, nothing like.He is unlucky sometimes in the tackle because his height and build and possibly his reputation go against him.He can't be subtle.

All the god awful abuse I gave Liverpool supporters over Carroll looks to be coming back and biting me in the arse anyway. I'm sorry, I really have to laugh at Fellaini.

The even funnier part is that if we had have bought Carroll to replace Scholes in midfield then his performances would have resembled something extremely like what we are witnessing with Fellaini

Yes, it would be even funnier Ringo if in the slightest bit true.

I feel for the guy....I was all for him coming here as he always impressed me at Everton......But like Berbatov and Veron...he just doesn't seem to fit and I am doubting he ever will but I hope he can prove some of us wrong

Berbatov and Veron were classy players, the latter certainly was not a good fit. Fellaini, on the other hand, is simply mediocre. He and Cleverley were appalling today. I guess it's unfair to keep criticising Fellaini for not performing for us when he is just rubbish.

Cleverley was far worse than him today but atleast Cleverley cost us nothing.

This summer we needed to sign a midfielder who was world class (or atleast had potential to be), would improve our first team and help us fix some of the issues we've had especially with creativity and retention under pressing. Fellaini will be compared against these attributes since he was bought in rather than developed.

The fact that he was mildly better than Cleverley doesn't cut it, because the expectation from Fellaini as our only midfield signing of the summer will always be much higher. Weather this is fair or not I'm not sure because I really doubt he has the ability to be the midfielder we really need. He may make a good partner for someone else and perhaps only then we'll see his true value but for the moment I don't see the criticism of him abating.

This deserved resurfacing too.

He's not a good partner for any player. He's not a good player. The cost of signing him makes it all worse.

But we didn't, that's the fact. It's not like I'm flattered that we've spent the money on him but Christ, has Fellaini got to it? Did he name the price for him ? No. Just get behind the player and instead of trying to give him shit every single match just try getting some objectivity ( not headed towards you by the way ). One would think that Fellaini scored 10 own goals today and that Anderson or Cleverley are demi-gods of midfield in our team.

I'd understand if it was Ashley Young case, we've got plenty of more wanted options on the wing ( Nani, Januzaj, Kagawa ) and yet he still gets picked but no, we've got feck all in midfield, Carrick and Jones are out injured and it's not like Fellaini's disgracing our club by diving or so. Nor did it take him so far in more than 8 years to fulfil his potential and he's yet yet to reach it.

Veron was a very, very good player in his day, he just didn't fit in for a strange reason. Berbatov was a very skilled player who didn't have the right mentality or work rate, or physical attributes to succeed at United (it was obvious before we signed him tbh).
Fellaini is just bad though. He's not talented, he's slow, he's not very good defensively, he's not a good tackler, he's not a great passer and he's not a hard worker. Pretty much the only thing he's actually good at is heading the ball, bringing down long balls and fouling players (which isn't a good quality to have). He has a decent first touch too. It was painfully obvious to me and a few others he'd be shit here, because he just isn't good. It isn't a case of flopping, or a player not having the right mentality. He's just not very good. (Saying that, he was okay for Fellaini standards today, I don't expect him to be capable of much more then that though)

Our best midfield is probably Carrick and Jones. That's a little depressing when you think about it.

I would love to see Carrick and Jones for the rest of the season as the midfield pair (assuming no signings in January). Agree 100% about Fellaini. We all support the team, but that shouldn't preclude highlighting Fellaini as a moderate footballer.

And a moderate footballer that cost £27 million. I still can't believe it. Makes you wonder what Woodward was thinking when he tabled that £30 million bid for Fabregas, who is light years ahead of Fellaini. We wuz robbed.

Fellaini should be ahead of Anderson because he's woeful. And yes I do get behind Fellaini in every match he plays in, I'll get behind any of our players even if I don't think they're good enough but I will criticise if I think they've played poorly. Nothing wrong with that. He's a decent player but he's just not good enough for United that's just my opinion. I won't hound him if I see him on the team-sheet as said I'll get behind him but if he plays poorly I will fairly criticise him and in my opinion won't take it too far. The same as I'll criticise Cleverley for his poor performance today but even though I didn't want Fellaini I expected a bit more from him and I'm thoroughly underwhelmed so far.

I'm of the same opinion. I don't think he should play for us for a long long time. We should try a midfield three of Jones, Anderson and Cleverley. And then a front three of Januzaj, Rooney, RvP. Focus on ball retention, go back to the basics and really build more confidence in this squad. We lack lots of it right now.

You say focus on ball retention but then name Jones, Anderson & Cleverley in your midfield. Please expand.

If it's the only thing Cleverley is good at its ball retention.

Jesus I always knew he wouldn't be worth signing, especially for the price, but this bad - :(
