Quite an impressive performance, he looks stronger and faster than he has been.

He's doing what's expected of him by us. Winning possession and making positive passes.

Giggs is his best partner then? Was potentially Jones' best partner too. All 40 years of him.

My only criticism of him is that he seems totally unaware of his size. He's out jumped at corners and even still is outmuscled often by men half his size. If he actually realised he was built like a brick shit house, he'd be incredible.

He's improving but I'd love him to add an element of physicality to his game and really boss the midfield, literally and figuratively.

He was always going to take a while to settle in given the time of the transfer and lack of preseason with the club. There was a pretty immediate burden placed on him from many fans with 'fixing' United midfield, which wasn't helped with the clubs pursuit of Fabregas, Thiago et al.

He's shown before he came here that he can be an excellent player, and with a bit of patience he'll show it here on a consistent basis. Games like tonight (if he can keep it up) will hopefully get his confidence going and we'll see his performances to start impressing consistently.

It's nice to see him getting some praise. I don't particularly rate him but the non stop criticism of him was getting really tedious. I don't think he'll ever be a brilliant player for us but if he hits his best form he'll certainly be a better option in midfield than any of Cleverley, Giggs, Jones and Anderson.

Thought he was fantastic tonight. Made some fantastic interceptions/tackles, and his passing was sharp and crisp. Let's hope this is the turning point for him.

Seen a couple people name him MOTM in the other thread. Was he? Talk sport berated him for the whole 90 minutes.

Yeah, I saw a few places saying he was poor tonight. I thought he was pretty good in the first half but I only saw the last few minutes of the second half.

He was a lot better tonight but he's still one of the clumsiest looking beasts I've ever seen in a United shirt. Apart from myself on a matchday evening.

offers nothing extra really. yes he did have an impressive passing stats today but all he did was a 5 yard passes to his teammates who was heavily marked. his mates around him didn't fare any better but the fact that we spend 27 million on a player like him is just unbelievable. he is just not fitted to play in CM for united. that's all.

I thought tonight was his best match for us.

True, despite my dislike i must say it was his best game for us.

He made some vital interceptions and was clearly instructed to cover the back four.
I found it funny how rarely the ball was passed to him in Everton's half, our player simply ignored him there.

Defensively- it was a solid 7, attacking wise - 3. 5 overall so i don't know why are people raving about.

He was alright tonight, but does anyone else get infuriated by the fact that he always passes the ball and then just stands there looking dopey and scratching his nuts? This would be acceptable if he was making 40-yard passes ala Scholes and Carrick but his passes are always weak, sideways 10 yards passes. Infuriating!

Was good today. Maybe could've gotten sent off though, he's so clumsy.

I'm sorry but he was awful. No imagination in his passing, about as mobile as a corpse and he was muscled off the ball by Ross Barkley! He's too slow and lumbering to be a regular in our midfield. I hope he comes good but I just can't see it, I don't know how and where he can effectively fit in the team.

Trust me, I'm one of his least favourite fans on this forum and don't think he is good enough for United, and not suited to us at all, but he was good today. He kept the ball well, Giggs' job was to be the creative one, did well defensively, and actually ran around a bit. We should still sign 2 new midfielders as he isn't the future but you have to give credit where its due.

Good first half but couldn't maintain it in the second half. Only Carrick is capable of playing as two men in a two man midfield.

Been fantastic tonight, I don't think that it should even be mentioned that he's looked better in the first half because the whole team has. Strong, winning duels, sound with passing, happy for him.

Thought he played well tonight. Still not dynamic enough to have us playing the sort of football I hope we will. Can't help feeling that 27million could've been put towards bringing in Herrera...

He was pretty good in the first half, but it was the same old Fellaini we've seen all season in the second half. Slow in running and passing, sluggish with his tackling, unnecessary fouling, etc.

He started brightly and I thought at the end of the first half that, ok well he's still not ideal but if he can play like this in games then when Carricks back it should be a decent partnership and even if Fellaini is eventually replaced in the team he'd be a good option to have. Then second half it was like a different player. He looked so tired for most of it and without that burst of energy he went back to offering little. He can't keep up with players so his stength is useless unless it's a static play or he's fouling. He can't seem to use his strength in the same way he did up the pitch and almost always ends up turning backwards when he gets the ball and his passing range is pretty limited. So disappointing and I didn't even think we should be going for him but as I'e said before I expected better than this.

Hopefully he just needs more fitness, if he can play each game like the first half then I think that's ok but there's no reason for him not to be fit now, wrist injury aside.

Jones is better. Didn't think he did all that much, and we had 31% possession from the start of the second half till about 75 minutes. He's not good enough on the ball, and he's so slow. Might be being harsh, but he's nothing like what we need.

My stream must only have been working when he was playing badly then. But then again, I think I saw about 15 minutes in total of the match, due to stoppages, buffering, ranting at my internet provider on Facebook and so on. I think he's a dire footballer that has no business playing for United. But I hope he proves me wrong.

Good first half. Didn't bother to turn up in the second.

And he's an absolute pussy btw. He's lazy as well.

That was a good performance from him apparently and it was still miles away from being good enough as Man united midfielder.

He isn't good enough, put simply. Even at his best he wouldn't be good enough. Would McCarthy have been a better signing? Yes. There's probably at least ten midfielders in the premier league that would've been a better signing than him.

So what do you think he should provide then?

Clearly the best we've seen of him so far. That was a very good display from him and I didn't expect him to bring that much energy and desire. He was all over the pitch at times, getting stuck in and playing forward passes at will. I've seriously doubted his ability but there was plenty tonight. Part of the reason he was much better is he didn't remain stuck in defensive midfield (where he's not 100% comfortable), and got more involved in our attacking (where he looks more effective). Now if he can just rid himself of that clumsy streak he'll go far.

He deserves to start the next game and if he replicates that performance level we may have have a decent midfield alternative to Carrick.

Our record in games he has started is terrible compared to those he hasn't.
