Yes, it's hard to judge how a manager of theirs is doing in some ways.

Where exactly is Tuchel rated now and what sort of club would employ him? I still think he could get some pretty nice jobs but that he's not rated quite as highly as he was before going there. The trophies and the money could still have made it a very nice time for him overall with little to no regrets.
 
Why such a short deal? We halfway through the current season, and we all know joining midway doesn’t really count. So that leaves him with one year. This really does feel like a cash grab by Poch, with no harm to long term prospects.

They did the same with Tuchel as a I said, gave him only 2 year contracts at the start and at this time I was also surprised. It's their strategy, they don't want to be linked with a manager by a long contract. See what he'll do first then they can extend his contract.

He will care if he wins the title. His résumé needs some silverware even if it's in France

I get their reasoning, but it’s way too short term - if the club has a bad transfer window then the manager may be out. Also, not like money is an issue if they have to pay out someone for an extra year.

How long do their coaches tend to last? It doesn't feel like Emery or Tuchel were there for that long. Maybe PSG is hedging it's bets?
 
Moulding a young talented Spurs team into world beaters is one thing, it is a completely different ball game to get a bunch of mega rich superstars to follow your instructions. He has a big task facing him, but if he can overcome the player attitude obstacles, he quite possibly would never again have access to similar levels of financial support later on in his career. Managers like Ancellotti have failed to control that dressing room, so not winning the CL with them shouldn't reflect too badly on him IMO.

Are PSG in need of an attacking midfielder? Two of his former favourites in Eriksen and Alli are both outcasts at their current clubs...

What we need the most is a true box to box midfielder but an attacking midfielder wouldn't hurt since Rafinha is the only player that fits this kind of profile.

PSG only ever hand out 2 year contracts with the condition of win the CL to get a renewal. Hence the reason no one makes it past the second year. He'll ultimately get sacked at some point next season.

That's not how it works. The problem with Tuchel (and Emery to a certain extent) is that the team didn't look better 2 years after they arrived. Considering Tuchel had bad relationship with management, he was sacked.
 
The CL tie against Barca will be his first real test.

So they leave their options open if he doesn't get on with their precious players. Far cheaper to sack a manager than replace a top class player.
 
Absolutely. And if he manages to land them Son or Kane during this tenure, then Champions League and his severance package becomes immaterial.

Eriksen was stupid to leave Spurs and was stupider to go to Inter under Conte. He should be eternally grateful if Poch gets him out of the mess he got himself into

Alli is a trequartista and I dont see how he would fit in with the flank dominant PSG duo of Neymar and Mbappe. Cant think of any team he would fit into directly as a starter.
 
Would be funny if he goes and wins the CL first time of asking. We have a lot of heavily anti Poch posters here who might have to go into hiding. Odds are quite nice at the moment if you think how poor most of the big CL teams have been.

Think its probably more likely that PSG think he’s relatively untested having not won anything in his career so far.

Also it’s a different type of pressure to manage big name players and be expected to win the CL or lose your job.

PSG base contract is 2+1, the +1 being linked to results or how the direction feels about a manager. As far as we know it has never been linked to winning the CL, for Emery the automatic renewal was linked to reaching the CL semi finals at least once and Tuchel got an extension in 2019.

He had also told the board he wouldn't be staying regardless once his contract was up at the end of the season.
