I think what this does demonstrate clearly though is winning trophies is as much about circumstance. Isn't it a coincidence that after years of Poch not having a good enough winning mentality to win a trophy, he's won 2 in 6 months. It's almost as if, he's gone from having unfavourable circumstances at his previous clubs to very favourable circumstances at his current club.
To me finishing 2nd on 86 points with Spurs, and reaching the CL final would be a better demonstration of his managerial ability than the 2 trophies he's won now. But he gets credit for neither. The only way he could ever get credit for being a good manager would be to win the league or champions league in unfavourable circumstances.
I remember Carragher being asked about going into management and he said when he sees the likes of Pochettino and Rodgers getting slated it makes him think what's the point, you can be a good manager but unless you're in the small group of coaches who win the big 2 trophies it's almost impossible to get any credit.
Winning the league cup or FA cup with Spurs would have put him alongside managers like Alex Mcleish, Redknapp, Arteta, Laudrup, Martinez who have all delivered these trophies in recent times - hardly something that will add much credit to your name as you can see from the list.
