He’s going to win 2 of the 4 domestic available in the 2 seasons. By that metric, Emery did better since he won 3 (not counting the League Cup).

But I don’t think anyone is going to consider Emery a higher achieving manager for Paris. Both lost a league title, that’s a failure. But Pochettino already did so much better than Emery in the CL.

Tuchel also won 3 of the 4 and got the club its best CL result.

Well I'm never going to champion Emery, but if that's who we're using as comparison for Pochettino, then it's not much of a credit to him. But Emery got screwed in La remontada, as the referee's admitted to clear mistakes in that tie which should have seen PSG go through, who knows where they go after that? Now Poch's got them to a semi CL, thanks mainly to Mbappe being on fire in that season in Europe and got dismantled by City where he had one good 45 minutes out of 180. PSG did look good against Bayern that year as well, but lost that game, and looked dominated in the other but won.

They've now gotten knocked out of the French cup with some big names on the side, at the earliest stage they've been knocked out in almost a decade. He could have had at least a couple more trophies easily, and he's had more than enough time to set up his team to look decent. They've looked good in about 2-3 games, that's it, for the entire season so far. I had nothing bad to say about him all last season because a manager needs time. He's had plenty now, the team still is nowhere near convincing and he's lost out on trophies he should have never allowed his team to lose. He's got the former Ballon d'Or and a guy who scored the second most goals in Europe behind Lewandowski in 2021. Emery didn't have that.

Seeing that Cheimoon summoned me, i'll answer that for you. Ajax only played amateurs this year so far, so they are still in it. But they've won 2 of the last 3 cups under Ten Hag

How can anyone mistake you for being the leading Ajax expert on the caf. That's obviously me. Ten Hag is a fecking fraud. There's only 1 good bald Dutch trainer and his name is Arne.

You putting the blame on the last league title on poch yet, stats shows that he did better than tuchel when he took over. Champion league is not a straightforward trophy for any manager to win. So, there is no context behind what you are saying.

Ok, glad he is doing well. Even though he has been playing amateurs like @Terranova stated. Ten hag is my second choice behind poch, so at least he is doing well in domestic cup.

I've yet to see it for virtually anything concerning Pochettino, but happy to wait another couple of years. Maybe you'll predict the time of his retirement correctly! *insert thumbs-up here*

Check post history at the time at spurs. The fact that Spurs is struggling right now without him and the fans are starting to blame Levy about not supporting their managers speak volumes. Heck, the fact that he made it to the champion league with such a spurs team is enough evidence of his success there. If you haven't seen anything, it is because you haven't tried looking :lol:. Let see how long it take spurs to find that level of success without spending like a big club. If they do, that manager they have then will be one to remember.

No interest in him anymore. The way he's just checked out at PSG is a massive red flag.

Don't see how he will fair any better with our hierarchy and he's playing some really uninspiring stuff. I'd rather look to the future with Ten Hag or Amorim, even if they cost a big fee to get.

I think he was checked out the minute Ole was sacked. There was a lot of noise about him being open to leaving mid season

wow, where have you been the years post poch? Have they made top four since then? they haven’t even come close to reaching the champions league final. They have sacked Jose and nuno in just a few years and you question whether spurs is struggling? Heck, Conte has come out and said that there have been something not right with spurs transfer strategy as well recently and even rumors that he wants out. Now I see why I am often right on here. Is there anything false about what I stated? If so let me know and I will correct it.

You are, in fact, right. Spurs have been struggling and have not reached the heights of the middle years of Pochettino's reign again yet. Although of course the struggles already started when Pochettino was still manager.

Thanks, I was thinking some people in this forum was going crazy. I agree the struggles started in the last year of poch tenure that is why he got sacked, but you have to remember what he accomplished last season. His mind seemed no longer there after the champions league final and he even complained about not signing world class talent in order to go to the next level which he wasn’t provided. Poch wanted Bruno or Dybala that summer and instead he got lo celso. Could you imagine if he gotten bruno? No doubt things will be different then. To continue at the top level, you need top talent and if the board doesn’t provide that as Conte is complaining about, there is only much you can do.

This year Ajax only played amateurs and reached the quarter finals very easily. We have won 2/3 cups though under Ten Hag, last year eliminatingf Heerenveen, PSV and AZ, Vitesse in the proces.

You guys sounds a lot alike. :)

For those interested, something to add would be that teams that finished in the top of the league get to skip the first few rounds. So Ajax has played only two cup games this season and their next game is already a quarter final. Also, Dutch football is called 'amateur' below the second tier. The teams Ajax played so far (Barendrecht and Excelsior Maassluis) play in the Dutch equivalent of the English League Two and League One, respectively (well, I'm sure it's much lower quality) - where players to my knowledge are actually paid small fees anyway, despite the amateur status.
 
The thing is a lot of people don't realize that Pochettino has been always a REACTIVE manager, not a proactive one. What masked this in his earlier spells at Southampton and Tottenham was his use of the pressing. He had young and hungry squads at the both spells initially and the pressing was also his main creative forse. At PSG due to the structure and the quality of the players he cannot use the pressing as one of his main tools. So normally he reverts to a more defensive approach and counts mainly on the counterattacks. Wich seems a bit absurd with the players he has at his disposal but its a logical from his point of view and how he sees football.Pochettino is a very wrong fit for PSG at the moment.

Brilliant performance and a comfortable 5 -1 win away from home to a champions league team and last year league winners. As other good manager knows, when you can disperse the goals among the team, like pep is doing at city and klopp at Liverpool, it is a sign of unity and a working gameplan. Who would imagine Danilo getting two goals today? Pochettino continues to do an amazing job with a dysfunctional unit and I am glad sir Alex is in such close contact with him.

It is not too late for some on here to admit they are wrong. Just kidding, it is to late. Just like Ole brigade and spurs fan on here they can always have that stain of being wrong and I will remember.

Pochettino discovered tonight that you could actually used your full backs in the game of football. Good for him and the team 1 week before Real. It was hands down our best game of the season. Actually, it was our 1st very good game this season, in february. Lille's keeper really helped us in the first half though but i'll take it.
 
Probably the best 90 minutes for PSG this season, but that's hard to assess when the opposition gifts you 2 goals in the first half.

I'm with you. I can't quite believe the opposition to Poch on here. I know Ten Hag is an equally (more in many people's eyes) attractive proposition in his own right. But because of this new found love of Ten Hag, Poch has gone from golden boy to absolute hatred on here in a few years, and most of the criticism comes from his time at PSG.

Ok, he didn't win the league in his first season at PSG, but people fail to mention he only took over half way through. Now he's walking the league and is probably going to win it,yet is still referred to as a bottler (as though his Spurs team had any right to get to the CL final or compete in the PL). Then there's the fact he replaced Tuchel, who many bemoan we missed out on now, yet he struggled at PSG also and was also ridiculed on here towards the end of his time at PSG. I said we should talk to him when I heard he was being sacked, as did many others. But so many posters thought they knew better and wouldn't have it. There's not much logic to how RedCafe views managers really now I think about it. Opinions change like the fecking wind.

I could accept that argument until people start trying to shoehorn Ten Hag into that bracket in the same breath. He's managing the biggest club in a third rate league and hasn't proven himself anywhere else.

Yes he's definitely an interesting prospect and has done a good job at Ajax, but nobody can say just how good he is when measured against the real elite just yet.

As a side note, the thing that surprises me is that Ten Hag as actually older than Poch, yet he's talked about like more of an up and comer.
