MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

It has been inferred that Rooney feels the current crop of players at Old Trafford are not up to scratch and his statement has irked the likes of Vidic and France international Patrice Evra.

"Rooney is going around and talking about the bad playing, or something happening around the club with the Glazers - it is not good for the players and not good for the team," Vidic told Sky Sports following the 1-0 win over Bursaspor.

Evra has insisted he has the utmost faith in the players around him. "If one player does not trust the other players, that player should not play," he said. "I am not like that as I trust everyone and I know we can win."

Federico Macheda says he would be happier if Rooney stayed at the club.

"There would be more chances for me if Wayne wasn't here but it is better to have him in the squad," he said. "He is a good striker. The squad is stronger with him here."

He added: "We are capable of challenging for major trophies. We have a great squad. We work hard every day to win things."

Ok he did :

Manchester United star Patrice Evra has hit back at Wayne Rooney’s comments which appeared to question the merits of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad.

The Frenchman claims he retains absolute faith in Sir Alex Ferguson and his Old Trafford teammates and anyone who doesn’t “should not play”.

Rooney yesterday confirmed his desire to leave Manchester United citing the club’s lack of investment and pertinently lack of assurances from the Red Devils’ chief executive David Gill over their ability to bring the world’s best players to Old Trafford, but Evra suggests the striker couldn’t be further from the truth.

The Manchester United star told Sky Sports: “If one player does not trust the other players, that player should not play.

“I am not like that as I trust everyone and I know we can win."

I don't want Patty to ever leave our club. I want him to eventually manage the team and for his children and grandchildren to play for us as well. In fact I think we should start his shrine now...

He's been tapped up and offered more money.

Let him rot in the reserves till January then feck him off.

NO MORE SCOUSE AT OT!

I'll be surprised if he plays again.

Although I remember Pierre van Hooijdonk doing something similar at Forest and claiming their squad wasn't strong enough and refusing to play but did a couple of months later so who knows!

Great comments, particularly from Patrice.

Funny that he wants to see better player when he has been one of the worst in the last 7 months. Cause if we would have bought a world class striker for example, it would be Rooney who would sit on the bench.

I like the reaction of most fans and the players - everyone basically telling him that he is talking crap and no one believes him.

Goodbye

Roo traitor! Wayne Rooney should not play for Manchester United if he doesn't trust his team-mates, blasts Patrice Evra

Patrice Evra has hit back at suggestions Manchester United are no longer ambitious enough to land the game's biggest prizes and insists that Wayne Rooney, or anyone else, should not be a part of the team if he no longer trusts his team-mates to deliver.

Rooney has stunned United by claiming the club are no longer good enough to satisfy his ambitions - but that is being challenged by manager Sir Alex Ferguson and now his senior players.

United have made a poor start to the Premier League season by their standards, lying fourth in the table and already five points adrift of leads Chelsea. But, despite missing out on the title last year too, Evra says he's at the club to win trophies, and that the squad is still the best in the country.

Evra said: 'If one player does not trust the other players, that player should not play. I am not like that as I trust everyone and I know we can win.'

He added: 'I've been here for four years and every time until last year I have won the league. It hurt – this is Manchester United and we must win trophies. That is the pressure of playing here.

'No team is better than us at the moment – you may think I'm crazy but I say it because it's true. Manchester belong at the top and I'm confident we can do that.

'We need to be professional. We need to perform – I don't like excuses about what's going on around the club. Everyone needs to focus on themselves.'

United put the drama surrounding Rooney to one side and emerged triumphant from Wednesday's Champions League clash with Bursaspor thanks to Nani's strike - the only goal of the night at Old Trafford.

The clean sheet was a most welcome sight for Ferguson, whose defence has been blighted by costly errors this season. And Evra has urged his defensive colleagues to go back to basics and cut out the mistakes that have undermined their season so far.
The France left back has now set his sights on becoming domestic champions yet again and insisted that the ongoing Rooney saga will be sorted out off the field, and will have no impact on United's championship challenge.

Evra added: 'The situation with Wayne Rooney is for the boss, not for the players. We are just focussed on winning games and bringing back the winning mentality.

'It's about doing the basics. Everyone talks about Manchester United but nobody has beaten us. The problem has been us – we have made some silly mistakes but teams have not been better than us. We have not been playing badly.

'The target for us is to win back the title and we are focused on doing that. I trust everyone so let's keep going.'

What about Owen?

I want Owen to stay. If you can believe what Rooney's whore says. Owen was disgusted at Rooney's antics.

As an aside, George Osborne will be writing to Rooney offering him a personal tax break for diverting the media's attention away from the cuts.

Lets look at it, we either cant or wont attract big players anymore, the squad is weaker than its been in awhile and really does look like it needs serious investment to stay competitive I cant help but feel like he has something of a point?

Why is everyone saying this off late??? Since when has Manchester United not been able to attract players? Best British club in the world and in the best league in the world... Any player with half a brain would want to give United a go! Yes we have a massive debt over our heads, but we've had that for a while.. Not stopped us before, or would stop us again. We might be in transition, but who's to say that we can win a title this season?? We've looked magnificently delicious going forward this season (on most occasions). Defensive lapses aside we're not doing too badly.

I don't for a minute think that Rooney's concerns are legit. It's absolute bollocks and you'd have to have some pretty big blinkers on to fall for it.

I don't want Patty to ever leave our club. I want him to eventually manage the team and for his children and grandchildren to play for us as well. In fact I think we should start his shrine now...

 great post.

I am actually in love with Patrice. I knew even before reading the article that he'd say the right thing, "I trust everyone"

Of course he is adding humor!

Geez...If he went anywhere it would have to be the Melbourne Victory.

We have a casino, an aquarium, multiple Zoo's, and the largest range of brothels in Australia.

Melbourne - Family Fun For Everyone

Please. Has to be the Phoenix! Up and coming team. And alot like Melbourne... Plus the added benefit of there being not being as many Aussies..

Rooney Statement
October 20th, 2010

If there was a possibility of Wayne Rooney staying at Manchester United that has certainly ended after tonight’s statement prior to an important Champions League game. The issued statement by Rooney is laughable and raises questions about him and his advisers mentality, in that, he has the audacity to question Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambition and the standing of our great club. I would just like to remind everyone that Manchester United lost the title by one point last season and went out of the Champions League through a sending off and that no team has the divine right to win the title every season.

No player has ever had the right to question and seek assurances about the current and future Manchester United squad, no matter their talent and let’s be honest, there has been far more talented players in the history of Manchester United, who have and would never demand such folly. It is obvious that a deal has already been done behind the manager and the club’s back for such a statement to be released. I am sure that I am not the only one who feel’s extremely let down by the player, however in the modern age I can accept that the movement of any player can happen no matter their club. The difference here is Rooney’s management has tried to engineer a move on the basis of belittling our great club and manager which just makes it all the more disappointing.

I know who I will back and I know who the fans will back and I want everyone to get behind our great team and Manager.

Ouch!

Whatever the outcome of the meeting this morning, I sincerely hope that Fergie makes life as difficult as possible for him between now and whenever.

ickcoppack Sky Sports News reporting meeting between Ferguson and Gill didn't take place at 10am... but is still scheduled to take place today.

Whatever the outcome of the meeting this morning, I sincerely hope that Fergie makes life as difficult as possible for him between now and whenever.

Why would he need to do that? Being purely vindictive for what?

He has a squad of players that also need to be kept busy training etc why accord Rooney anymore staus than he already wants?
