MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

You've played right into the hands of Stretford et all. It's the intelligence of fans like you they're aiming at with that complete bollocks of a statement.

Well done. Thankfully most fans aren't as "intelligent" as you.

This and then some, only an idiot has fallen for anything in that statement.

I don't believe him.

I believe that what he's saying could be right - but I don't believe that's his reason. It makes no sense. You'd come up with that one if it became apparent that we were on a downward slide (like now :) ) not after we'd missed out on the league by one point, and beat Chelsea in the CC.

When I say they've played a blinder, I mean to the average football fan on teh streets.

You know damn well the press and the opposition are going to come firmly out on Rooneys side now. So for a PR exercise he has pulled a blinder. He will have every neutral fan sat firmly saying "fair play to the lad.. what a hero.. coming out and speaking openly"

Fergie pulled a blinder yesterday.. Rooney has just countered it.

The saving grace now is that the onus is on David Gill to respond, because Fergie and Rooney have clearly now both said there hasnt been a problem between the two of them. No one can blame Fergie for this.

I don't think anyone will actually fall that utterly disgusting attempt that was made in his "statement"

Even a blind man can see why the cnut left... and it had nothing to do with what he thinks about United.

Did Drasdo just say it's proof of what Must have been saying all along?

fecking puppets! Of all things that prove the Glazers are wankers, this isn't one of them! It's being made to look like that by Rooney's people to stop there being such a huge backlash against Rooney.

Only suckers should fall for that one.

That's the thing though.
I don't think they've bought Rooney's mouth crap.
I reckon they've simply just assesed the situation and spotted that they now have a very powerful tool in getting their message forth.

Jumping on Rooney's wagon means they'll have to back the words of a disloyal prick, but they're willing to do that if it means getting more supporters to riot against Gill.

That point you made got missed, but it bang on.

How did he foresee us being poor this season, especially after the CC win?

Except he hasn't done that...Because everyone's still blaming him...EXCEPT FOR YOU

I am blaming him..

And I am blaming Gill as well.

A greedy cnut in a meeting with a lying cnut..

Only one outcome.

THe only thing is I am not stupid enough to believe that what ROoney is saying doesnt have merit. Unlike most.

Of course Rooney is not happy that theres not enough ambition. He'd had five fecking years to work it out.

The only reason its now an issue is because City are throwing cash around. We were skint 3 years ago before that Arab owned CIty and did he care then.. Did he feck..

My issue with Rooney isnt that he's leaving because the clubs skint.. Fair play I can understand that.. But why has it taken 5 years for him to come out and say it, and why is it that he happens to think we arent ambitious at about the same time City are throwing cash about all over.

He's taken shit loads in wages over hte last 5 years, knowing the financial situation, and seen player after player go. WHy didnt he feck off when Ronaldo went ?

The reasons he has given may be valid. THe timing of it and what he stands to gain suggest theres more to it than just the lack of ambition.

Well, it only takes a few suckers and a lot of spin to 160k members to work.

It's a huge shame, and a bigger sham.

When Rooney turns up at City, I wonder what they'll all be saying then?

I will go with - "he was forced into it due to the lies of Gill and the Glazers."

If what his statement did was genius PR... then feck me I should be making millions giving PR advise to stupid footballers.

I think this screen that Mockney posted in the Pro Evo 2011 thread sums it up for me...

I give up..

If you cant see how clever a ploy this is by his agent I give up.

They could have gone for Fergie, labelled him as the reason for not wanting to stay.

Instead they've gone for David Gill, someone that we all know cannot be trusted to tell the truth.

On that score they've pulled a blinder. Why go for Fergie when they can get away with blaming Gill knowing that the vast majority of fans dont trust Gill.

Oh I know Rooney is fecking off for hte money, but what he's done is now labelled the blame firmly at the GLazers and the owners without anything being thrown at Fergie or the club at the same time.

Its a PR stroke of genius. Pass the blame onto someone who no one trusts anyway...

Of course it's a clever ploy by his agent. It's hardly genius though - obvious spin with the added benefit of absolving himself from responsibility for the team's results. But just as surely as we don't have to believe it, and hardly anyone does - we don't have to be impressed by its P.R cleverness either.

Just as I said before.

MUST, Drasdo, The Red Knights and Fredthered are all using this exactly the way Rooney and his agent will have wanted it to be used.

Rooney is no longer a cnut apparantly.

He is a Martyr.

Good point.

Ok.

Before Fergie's interview yesterday I pretty much ignored the Rooney rubbish in the media. I thought there may be a small argument there but nothing serious. When Fergie did the interview I was massively disappointed and felt a bit sick in the stomach, but decided to give Rooney the benefit of the doubt and the chance to explain himself. Maybe there was a half-decent reason for his decision, it may have been because of the personal problems he's having and he wanted a clean start. I said as much on this forum, and encouraged others to stay away from the vitriol until we'd heard a bit more about what was going on. Stay calm and give the guy a chance.

Now we've heard from him.

My reaction - burn the cnut. Throw him out of the team. Destroy his career. He makes Tevez and Heinze look like angels in comparison. I honestly can't think of a top player at a top club to act like this ever before, which when you think of the all the disgusting money-hungry cnuts around, he's worse than them all. I can't believe this is the same player who just 6 months ago was saying he wanted to stay here for life. I'm disgusted and I don't want to ever see him play for my team again.

Hardly surprising that those incompetent morons at MUST have done so, then.

But what then happens when Rooney joins City?

They are basically backing a lying arsehole of a man. It just furthers my mind that although the hearts might be in the right place, the heads are after something. It's all so see-through and amateurish, which is a big shame when we really need a strong logical voice at this time :(

Damage limitation, I guess. Rooney and his camp look very bad after the leaks they made to the media...which was compounded by Fergie's emotional press conference, yesterday. I'm sure most'll see through it. That said, it's possible he thinks we're lacking in ambition or can't compete for the best. The likes of Bebe, Obertan, Owen et al aren't exactly top quality. We'll just have to see what happens in the summer. My guess is Fergie knows the team needs strengthening. Whether he's got sufficient funds to put things right is another matter.

Of course, it's all they could've done. But the thought he could become the poster child of people like Drasdo is frightening...Because that WILL put G&G back years.

The boy turned out to be a cnut, but then it's hard to see how he wasn't to begin with. The fact of the matter is we are on a downturn, but every club goes through that at one point or another, and we have many times before (most recently when Rooney signed) and we can't win everything all the time. But even if Rooney did think that, to claim it's a justifiable reason to piss off mid-season after an unprecidented run of success and not even stick around for a few years to see what happens is laughable. With the likes of Fabregas/Torres and even Gerrard staying with teams in far far worse positions, it's ridiculous for him to come out and say "I just need to win trophies" after finishing a point off the top and actually wining one last year whilst City (if that is who he's going to) went trophiless and have no guarentee of being anything a long term super club like United are...And didn't win anything, nor even look like it. He might as well go to Spurs if that's the case.

It's even more laughable though that some are buying it because they're desperate to latch onto anything Gill/Glazer related...It makes them, and the movement look silly

"For me it's all about winning trophies"

Huh?? What the feck? Does he know that he would had been a big part of our dominance for the years to come? Is Wayne scared of the pressure when he's coming to the age where he REALLY has to step up without the safety net(Scholes,Giggs)

I can totally see where he is coming from.

I did however think he would be here for life though.

Unfortunately, that's the only thing they seem professional at.

He is only one man...

I hope the club withdraw any priviliges they can and tell him to get his poxy dodgy ankles treated somewhere else at his own expense. As for Stretford surely the TO can suspend his season tickets, they can say it is for security reasons, that would not be a lie

I don't see why people are turning against Rooney when he's saying exactly the same things the fans have been saying for years. Lack of big name signings and the likes of Silva, Ozil and Villa all moving are obviously catalysts for this, as well as signing unproven youths like Bebe. This forum has been full of moaners about this, now Rooney says it and the pitchforks are out.

Maybe I'm just naive.

If he joins City then I imagine they'll come out with a statement condemning his actions while stressing that this is now the future of the clubs unless the fans start doing something.

Take a bad situation and turn it into something useful to fit your own agenda. Exactly what Rooney and his people were hoping the United fans would do.

We have always signed unproved youths like Bebe, since the 80's

The timing is because of the contract neogations, he was probably told by Gill last year the Ronaldo money would be spent but it clearly hasn't been. Before that Ronaldo was here and we where still benefitting form an excellent pre-Glazer squad together with Bargains in Evra and Vidic added. I think what he is saying is correct, the timing is absolutely awful and a major error imo but we know he isn't a Utd fan and is here to win trophies which by the looks of things with the debt isn't going to happen.

This is classic stuff, stop swallowing the bollox! Bet your life it starts at Eastlands. It's a bit like the Russian tried when he first took over at SB, trying to get both Kenyon and Fergie. Weaken and demoralise your main opponents using your money to take the best off them. They sampled it with Tevez, now they're going for Rooney. Rooney's a pawn in a political game. Doubt he knows what the fecks going on other than a massively increased pay packet to try and do as much damage as he can. ('ambitious' club that's buying stars? Cuts out the majority of Europe. In fact, it only leaves one serious contender and it aint Chelsea or Madrid)

Don't know if he'll end up there, though. Depends how much damage Fergie's counter, which he's already started, achieves. They could well be too embarrassed by this to close the deal. They're not bothered about Rooney, they'd sooner have Messi, Kaka or Ronaldo. Its the damage they hope to do that counts.

Well up for tonights game now.

It'd be nice if just for tonight old trafford was a sea of red and the g&g was 'rested' for the eve.

Pogue touched on it earlier - just compare rooney's behaviour to that of fabregas. Compare what they've been part of over the last 5 years and what incentives they would have to change clubs.

Rooney is a fecking prick.

Or maybe you just read the transfer forum too much.

We've recently won three league titles and got to two ECL finals, winning one. But for a disaster of a week last season, we could possibly have added to that.

Would anyone added to our squad helped us win more? Maybe, but isn't four major trophies in four years enough?

Obviously not for some of you. Which is why you want to buy into the shit Stretford is selling.
