MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

There's nothing i can say that hasn't been said before but this is just so hard to belive i honestly thought he would be at United for the rest of his career, get rid in January i say and try and bring in a world class replacement, that or get Fergie to finally admit we are broke.

They can't have played Europa League or Champions League either.

He's wanted to leave since the summer and you look at his form. His mind is elsewhere. Why should we play him then. His form is absolute shit.

Don't know whether he'll play for us again, don't think he's mentally fit enough to play.

I don't think this is about money, or a breakdown in his relationship with Fergie, I think that Rooney's problems are stress related and the effect of this stress has snowballed into what we are witnessing now.

If not money is Rooney saying something about the club and the direction it's going.

He will have to be sold in January but I don't think anyone will buy him when they can get him next summer for way less money...

We may as well face the fact we are probably gonna be lucky to get about what we paid fir him. If were lucky!

On the plus side, if Fergie can't rail him in it won't be long before his career goes fully off the rails.

If he goes to City I want some sort of tapping up probe launching. It's exctly the kind of shady small time shite that they would pull.

I think that Rooney's problems are stress related and the effect of this stress has snowballed into what we are witnessing now.

He should have thought of that before he fecked some Spanish whore while his pregnant wife was at home.

Classy.

The thing is though what has been in papers has as good a chance of being bullshit as it does of being true. I take everything written with a pinch of salt.

All we know for sure is what Fergie has told us. Fergie has not said he's disrespected the club in any way.

He didn't exactly look like a man who needed to say it. He said he wasn't too sure or something like that, his body language was wrong. I don't think he was willing to say anything because he's left the door open and it would be foolish to say too much. The fact is, we don't know the whole story behind it. People say it's about money and it might be but they haven't even looked at what we've offered...(this is from the mutv interview)

shocking stuff... Fergie's interview was unbelievable... never imagined he would be so candid about something like this. Contract negotiations happen behind closed doors. Can't fathom why he felt the need to come out and explain this in such detail.

My guess: So that the attention is now squarely on Rooney and the rest of the team can move on with the football.

I felt similarly about Ronaldo.

I have long ago accepted players like Giggs and Scholes are in the past. Money is the loyalty now. So why hate him.

It's different to Ronaldo, for the simple reason that Ronaldo was from Iberia and had a genuine dream to play for Madrid. Plus, he made this clear, didn't mess about with contracts to potentially leave us in the shit (I seem to recall we got £80m) and even did an extar year once it was clear that he would rather get moving.

Rooney, as people have said, has everything here. He is top man at the biggest club in the country, he is near his friends and family, he has no reason to leave other than money. (I don't believe he wants to, or will, play abroad, and if he does I'm pretty sure he won't deal with it and will be back in England soon).

My issue is that in the past, with players like ince, stam, becks, keano, ruud etc, each of those departures took place with some sufficient intervening peiord. enough time that on each occasion, our the essence of our team was never eviscerated.
Yes when becks left we went through a dry period, but that was never down to his leaving alone.

This time, its Ronnie, Tevez, and possible Rooney, all in the space of 2 seasons. I won't lie, I'm frightened as hell by this. on all other occasions i would be first to applaud Fergie and say, Fergie always knows whats best for the team, and x player's departure was good for the team. This time, well uhm, lets say i have a few doubts.

And people thought Rooney will never leave United. feck them, feck Rooney, feck everyone else.

Part of me had always feared what if Rooney turns into the next Gazza...now i find myself hoping he actually does. Yes, I'm that bitter at the moment.

He's running away from his private life, which is fairly obvious. He knew the story was going to come out, which is why he tried to get an injunction, and started planning a way to get himself out of it. By doing this, the focus is on something other than his philandering ways. He'll claim it was for ambition or whatever, but he's running away from a situation he created by being a stupid cnut.

I dont buy that. People will still talk about that, but its not a huge deal for fans like the Terry scandal was. Rooney wont be booed like Terry still is.

Maybe he wants to make a fresh start in his life and he sees changing clubs as being a good way to do it.

That video from MUTV, you can see the disappointment written all over his face. But as soon as he mentions Edwin and the fact that he spoke to his dad after he made the mistake he had a glint in his eye.

When i heard the news i wasn't angry, i was like Ferguson says he was, shocked and dumbfounded. Why would he want to leave? What happened over the summer that made him change his mind?

The only thing i can think of is the media, over the world cup he got a lot of shit off them and obviously his extra-marital escapades before/after that. This leads me to think he'll go abroad, where i don't know.

I'm not angry though, just very disappointed. I genuinely thought he would stay here for his entire career, or at least as long as Sir Alex was there.

Shitty will defintiely be making an offer and soon.
I agree. If they acquired Rooney it would put them way ahead of schedule in terms of their objectives - he provides a quick and easy route of improving their profile (they seem to have identified doing it at United's expense as a key objective) and they'd also acquire a proven player in the PL. Their policies here are clear from their pursuit of Tevez and use of him in subsequent marketing - he was a dream acquisition in terms of raising their profile.

I really wonder if Barcelona, for example, will truly be interested. I'm starting to see Rooney as football's answer to Ricky Hatton - (no surprises they're friends and he supports City?) Rooney let's himself go physically to a greater extent than any other footballer and while he has all the passion and character Hatton has too, I just can't see him fitting in with Barcelona's approach to the sport.

I'll be truly fascinated to see where he goes. I've a feeling he'll surprise us all. Could easily see him ending up at Chelsea.

With this revelation, was Bebe signed with Rooney's departure in mind?

Were we that quick to make up our mind because of Rooney?

Buth then again, why act like a cnut?

wow

So..... Fergie has a face to face with Rooney, and yet he doesn't know why he wants to leave?? I've have thought was a question worth asking??????

its very bizarre. Ronaldo and Rooney were to be the corners stones of our team for the next decade. Now what ??

There's obviously a very real chance that Fergie will retire at the end of this season, I wonder how much of a factor that is ???

very sad

This is just painful to watch. Can't think of a reason good enough for Rooney to do this. feck you Wayne.

As you say SAF will bring us to more glory.

My one fear for us as a club is when the great man does say goodbye one day. Maurinho? How do you replace the greatest manager of all time eh?

Because as I said, he has everything at United. I'm sure we're offering him lots of money. It's all about how classy one is.

I never had any hatred for Ronaldo because to be fair If I was playing for Madrid, my heart would always want to play for United. It's just who he is. You can't blame him for that. Rooney on the other hand has no such reason to leave this great club. He is sorted financially, he is loved and truly adored. Shame he's quite a prick.

The press conference he looks a lot more saddened than the MUTV one.

Looks shakin up if I had to say.
