MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

Mancini thinks he's staying:

In a press conference on Wednesday, Mancini said: "Rooney is a very good player but I think he will stay at United."

I know football fans are fickle, and yes im sure if he can came back with his tail between his legs the Rooney Rooney chants would be sung again or whatever, but ive completely lost all respect for him. I couldn’t cheer and support somebody who has completely disrespected the history and tradition of our great club and virtually reduced the one great thing we have left (Fergie) to tears in front of the press

I don't know but the more I think about this, the more I think it has nothing to do with money. There's something deeper going on here. I mean SAF made it clear that he and his agent haven't even looked at the contract.

I have to agree with this. As Fergusion said, no money had been discussed. I feel that Stretford has persuaded Rooney that United won't be able to compete in the transfer stakes for top players for a few years, meaning Rooney will end up rather like Van Nistleroy did during those lean years when he nearly single handedly kept us competitive with his goals, surrounded by not our best team over the years.

Rooney said in March that he wanted to sign for life. But that was before the lack of transfer dealings during the summer which might have made Stretford influence Rooney about United's lack of future credentials with the big boys.

I'm sure in January....or maybe before....we will hear Rooney's side to it.

Must admit..wasn't expecting this..and Ferguson genuninely looked very disappointed. But then again, he's kind of known about this since August, so I expect he has been planning for next season rather than expecting too much from this season.

Mancini cryptic re Rooney link: "It says City are developing every month, every year. The people here have big ambitions."

Scenario 1 : Roo to Bitters in Jan - Forlan to us in Jan - Torres to Atleti in Jan ,
Torres to us in the summer

Scenario 2: This is a conspiracy - Fergie and Gill have found a buyer for the
Club, but the buyer can't match the Galzers' valuation - good way
to devalue the club ? Destabilise it.......

Fergie/Gill to Roo/Stretford " Let's kick up a fuss about you wanting
to leave us, play along as the bad guy for a while....when the club
has changed hands, we'll reward you in your new contract and
Oscars all round"......

Scenario 3: I'll stop taking the tablets

3 please.

I'm torn. I cant decide whether to cheer his name later, boo it or just plain ignore it.

If we support him and he still leaves we look like muppets, but if we support him and it turns him round.....

its a proper head fook!

Why should we support someone who has been "adamant" to leave for 2 months.

I'll continue to support United as I always have. I think Rooneys played his last game for us anyway. This whole "being stretchered off" just seems too coincidental with the revelations that came out.

Surely you don't think that was staged in some way?

Just watched the Mancini interview. Looked pretty evasive to me. Lying without actually lying.

For example, at the end, the journalist said, "Can you confirm 100% that there has been no contact between Manchester City..." and Mancini replied, "Never, I have never seen him".

I wouldn't expect Mancini himself to be seen with Rooney but a representative speaking to Rooney's agent is another thing entirely.
Mancini did look a touch uncomfortable in that interview.

meaning Rooney will end up rather like Van Nistleroy did during those lean years when he nearly single handedly kept us competitive with his goals, surrounded by not our best team over the years.

tbh, RVN was the man outright for like maybe a year. We had a lot more in place then, and Giggs/Scholes/Neville weren't OLD old. And then Rio was only coming back from his suspension.

But I genuinely agree with you, this isn't just greed.

Considering Rooneys complete lack of effort against West Brom then what are we meant to think? He doesn't have any hunger and thats the main driving force behind his talent.

Either way, thats just another example of why Scholes is a legend. He still hasn't learnt how to tackle bless him.

I'm still struggling to believe that it's purely a monetary decision for Rooney to just leave this club.

If Rooney moves away from Manchester, I'm sticking by my theory that Coleen offered him an ultimatum that he gets away from United, Manchester, the Casino's, the Parties, the Calll Girls and his marriage will be saved.

If he moves to City, obviously Money will be a big factor but I'm sure for his agent to have sold the idea to him he will have used the "ambition" of both clubs as a selling point. Firstly, I believe our ambition is still there, I think we're choosing our moment to make the moves in the transfer market and giving our youngsters the season to prove themselves that they have earned.

However, the way Rooney might be seeing it right now is that we're a club that has sold the best player in the world when we were in a position that only needed one solid midfielder to give us a great chance of winning the Champions League and the League again. Fast forward a year and there is still no marquee signing while Rooney plays for a team that is "deteriorating" around him and on the other side of the City they are investing hundreds of millions to be a team that can challenge. I think Rooneys agent has told him to jump ship now and not in a few years time when the balance is even steeper between us.

The best thing we could do is demand that he stays with us until the summer, and then start investing money in some players that could seriously put as back at the top of the tree and show Rooney the ambition this club has.

feck him disrespectful little twat, if he doesn't want to play for United then get him out of the club asap. Manchester United will go on Trust in Fergie...

Those horrible long lean years...

When we were a Rio ban and an offside goal away from a possible repeat title and a CL that we were robbed of competing for 2004 - would have been an effing treble had we pulled it off. And yet Ruud turned in a transfer request at the end of the season.

When Ruud himself was injured in 2004/05, and yet he turned in a transfer request at the end of the season.

When Ruud played almost no part in the decent football we played in the back half of 2005/06, finally to be given his wish with a transfer to Real.

Now onto Rooney...

Rooney has won 3 league titles, a CL, and 2 League Cups (we won one he wasn't involved in as well). He's lost in the final of two heartbreaking FA Cup Finals, and one agonizing CL Final. We lost out on another final by a sending off, and another league title by a single point last season.

We've strengthened since then.

Does he seriously think he's going to match that tally in six years elsewhere, keeping in mind that he has been around during all but one of the so-called "lean years" for United, skewing his numbers heavily?

Simply, i don't give a shit whether Coleen gave him the ultimatium to leave Manchester United to save his marriage, cos i think that's a load of shit. British girls are ugly fuggers.. If he goes to Spain or Italy, chances are the temptations are even higher.

the problem with that is now SAF has bascially thrown him to the lions (the fans) i dont see how he can play for us again, without a pretty fecking well written statement between now and his next game he'll be booed to high heaven and i can see that old rooney temper flaring up and the whole thing going loco

Even if the whole thing is based on his fear regarding our transfers, there's a better way of going about it.

Do you seriously think he's going to match that tally at United for the next 6 years?

I think his earnings and the state of United's finances definitely come into it but I suspect it's more to do with the fact that he's only 24 but has been with the same woman for years and the same club for years. Might sound daft but he is at a cross roads - commit to another 4 years of the same or use his best chance to go somewhere else at his peak. He could definitely have gone about things better but I can understand how a 24 year old might have grown stale in his circumstances...

I'm not sure about that. I personally don't believe we are going to be the most successful English team over the next 6 years, and certainly not by the way things are going at the moment anyway.

How is this any different to when Chelsea were building a monster team back in 03/04? Everyone called it the end for United and said that Chelsea would be winning the title every year. Sure they won a couple of Leagues but look at the team that really owned the 00's in the end.

He can go to hell, if he's leaving for money, he's mercenery scouse scum

If he's leaving because colleen wants him to/to save his marriage, he's philandering scouse scum and the situation is all of his own making

If he's leaving because we dont match his ambition he's arrogant ungreatfull scouse scum who thinks far too much of himself.

Summary: feck him.

You see City winning half of the next six titles, the European Cup (out of of the next five because they aren't in this year's), three League Cups (that would be three of the next five because they're already gone), and appearing in a further European Cup Final, a further EC semi-final, and two FA Cup Finals?

Wow. We are fecked.

The difference between back then and now is that United still had an abundance of top quality players to fall back on. We might not have won the league for a couple of years, but there was a core of top quality players (albeit with some duds mixed in). Unless there is massive reinvestment in the transfer market, we don't really have the top quality players in our squad now.

Did I say that? Show me where I said that City are going to win three leagues and a European Cup?

Well one thing is 100% certain.. They are going to win something.

If its not this season then rest assured its coming very soon after.

He is a talented player but not world class. Not yet anyway. Another three or four seasons like last season for him..then sure..world class. I felt worse when Van, Ronaldo and Beckham left to be honest. Those we kind of knew about before it happened, drawn out media rumours.....what has shocked me is the suddenness of the confirmation by United on the Rooney situation. The hurt comes from the fact that I really thought that despite his evertonian roots, he had adopted a passion, love, loyalty and dedication to United. A club that has nurtured him and enabled him to have a world wide brand and reputation. Its that revelation that that is not atually the case that surprises me and hurts.

Still, we'll get over it, in fact...for some unknown reason, I'm quite excited by it all. Maybe a bit perverse..but this should really put a spanner in the works for the Glazers. Just imagine if this is all part of master plan by Fergie to push the Glazers to sell. Not buying big in the summer...pushing Rooney out the door...not winning things....United club value diminishes making it more attractive to billionaires....
