MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

I think if I see an interview with Rooney in 10 years time and he talks about "regretting leaving Manchester United" or anything like that, I will put a brick through my telly.

What's the betting on that happening, I wonder? Odds-on, surely.

I think thats unlikely. I think its garentueed that other people will talk about it as the downturn point in his career.

At 25 he's still far from his peak, another 3-5 years, if he wastes them at City he'll be no different to a player like Shearer. At least Shearer had a reason for being at Newcastle.

mate don't laugh at my post. it's disrespectful. It's not having a go, it's just arrogent and disrespectful. Atleast respond to it. Not everyones a mug..Ignorant attitude? Didn't Patrice say he hoped rooney would stay? people saying he's disrespected the team...the team can think for themselves and we can offer our OPINIONS..

Do you accept that? If you do then well done. If you don't then sometimes people have to agree to disagree. If you think Sir Alex is that sensetive then I think your wrong. The club aren't stupid. They don't cry like babies.

We kept Ronaldo for another season because we knew it was for our benefit that season not in the long term. We don't know what the club think. If we can buy no one then the club will do what it can to keep the player

I'll laugh at your post if I think it's stupid, because that's my opinion.

You however, have asked a load of stupid questions, questioned whether I care about any of this, and posted a load of nonsense, based on..me disagreeing with you.

I can't see how you think the door is still open, he's worded that it is yes, but by his very actions it isn't. The fact Rooney's response to Fergie's original press conference wasn't a statement of apology or revision on the situation, but a confirmation of events, would show that he is not staying, nor does he want to. We appear to keep the door open because it benefits us from an outsiders perspective in the sense that we are making it very clear, the decision is Wayne's and has been Wayne's.

To think he could come back now is ridiculous. Effectively Fergie has turned the entire club against him, from players who disagree with his actions, to the fans who are nearly all backing him, to the pundits and commentators who dislike United.

The Ronaldo situation is nothing remotely like this and shouldn't be used as a comparison as to why we might turn this all around.

Next time Striker, I'll give you a break as well.

If attempted idiocy was a crime, you would be doing life in prison.

bingo. Most people probably think we'd sell him for a fiver. You have to play to maintain your value. As it is, Rooneys value has deminished since his injury, a fact some people don't get...We've two and a bit months to deal with the situation.

What happens if i'm right? Will you threaten to ban yourself? Why don't we have a bet? A weeks ban for the person who's wrong? deal? Hectic let me know if you're up for it.

How do you suggest Fergie should handle it?

Deal, but since you don't make the rules, let's go with two weeks.

Only player I can think of who didn't end up saying that was Mark Hughes and see how that turned out.

Obviously, playing a guy who has made it perfectly clear that he doesn't want to be here, has released a statement alienating his team mates, and has turned the vast majority of the fans against him, is the play here.

Yeah, I expect thats what most people think.

If you are talking about his recent injury then it could actually work to hold his value.

If it keeps him out through to January, then we have a reason not to play him and as we won't be "forcing him to sit on the bench or play with the reserves" he'll somewhat hold his value.

SAF, Gill, Uncle Junior, big Malc via video link, and Lance is bringing around cups of sweet lemon tea, with digestive (1871) biscuits of course

Which I intend to drop in a savage manner.

according to Marca, Rooney wants to earn more than Cristiano Ronaldo in Real Madrid, what the feck he think he is?

How do you suggest Fergie should handle it?

I think he's done the right thing. He highlighted the issue because the fans were calling for Rooney last game and it wasn't fair to the players. We don't know if this gill stuff is true or not and I imagine Sir Alex will be talking with Gill today about that. People need to ask is Waynes form because he wants to leave or because he's injured or is he just off form? Yes Waynes tried to undermine the manager but you need to find the reasons why. The door is still open because as Sir Alex said he's too good a player for us to close the door on

He's 24/25 and it comes down to knowing Rooneys mentality. There will be plenty of talks and then we wait. It is up to our other strikers to take up the challenge. It is up to them to keep wayne out of the team. It's tricky because it's a balancing act. We know nothing about the injury at the moment but you find the problem and you deal with it. Up until now, Wayne has given everything for this club. We know he was despirate for Ronaldo to stay. He said it often enough.

He maybe has a fans mentality more then he should and lack a professional outlook but he's not the brightest tool in the box. After the start to this season, it's probably highlighted Rooneys anxiety and really all Sir Alex can do is talk to the player. I can understand Rooney, if he is telling the truth. We've vds, Neville, Scholes and Giggs who we need to replace. We've Sir Alex who won't be round forever (though that isn't an issue hopefully for a while yet). We need to address these things. We can't keep saying we will. People will say he's not tried for united but the fact is he was like this for England too....

If he started the season well, there would be less bs but people need to remember he played similar for England. Doesn't he care? There's obviously issues to be sorted out. He's been assertive more then any other player but that's not a bad thing. We have time, a few months to the jan window, to deal with the situation.

As a club we've known since August and no club reacts better in adversity then united under Sir Alex. It won't break the dressing room. It will bring them together because they have something to prove. It's not ideal but as I say I think Sir Alex will do what's best for the club. What that is, time will show...

If i'm wrong? I've already said that i'd rather see us promote from within as we do have experience to compliment it. I think midfield is a bigger concern then up top at the minute.

Mate, your pissing against the wind here.

By his own admission he hasn't been injured. What do you make of that? Perhaps he is a schizophrenic as well as a duplicitous money grabbing little scrote.

This has really shocked me. Rooney? I thought we had a true red in the making. I am lost for words and don't know what to say. Where do we go from here? How do we build the next team as this team is done. The attacking pieces on which it was built has finally collapsed. To think I asked Ronaldo to be as loyal as Rooney. This is beyond the pale.
I had always believed there was something wrong with his head, but never did I think he will pull something like this off. Will there be a next?

agree with all of this

Sir Alex said the boy did say he was injured and he was asked later and said he wasn't.

rumors that mean nothing. Marca are a joke but people listen to rubbish and we shouldn't. I reckon a lot of people dislike him now because they think he'll sign or has agreed to join city...all based on rumors. We can't deal with these things because it's clearly unfair speculation

Gary-Rafael
Giggs-Nani & Valencia
Scholes-Ando?
VDS-Someone brought in. Bit of a gamble there, but that's how it is for most teams.
