MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

That shouldn't stop him from signing a new contract though. Thing is, he can leave at anytime such is player power.

It would be even more stupid if that was the case when you consider that whenever Fergie retires it's not like some muppet is going to get appointed. If you consider that Mourinho seems to want the job why would you leave?

It's greed, nothing more, nothing less. Rooney or his vacuum salesman agent are expert enough to make judgement on Uniteds youngster potential and transfer policy, it's a disgraceful smokescreen of an excuse.

Sorry mate nipped out for lunch. I'd love to see him stuck in the reserves, given enough CC sub appearances to satisfy the 10% rule and left to rot for 18 months, then he can do whatever he pleases after his contract has run out, but he'll not have played a properly competitive match for 18 months, or played well for two years.

Would love to think that the Glazers would back him if he went down that road.

I agree with this. Perhaps Fergie has said he will be leaving at the end of the season, come rain or shine, and this has unsettled Rooney.

SAF has said that he will tell noone about his decision to leave because of the fiasco it caused last time i.e. players taking it too easy.

They dislike him for being adamant he wants to leave, stating so at a really bad time and then putting out a statement right before a champions league match damning the players we have.

Whether he goes to City or Real, he's a twat. Its just better that he leaves the country.

I was at work but I imagine it was his pr people that put out the statement or way it wayne himself??..

Simples, don't sign the contract....and leave on a free. I don't understand why he's so desperate to leave now. Well, I have an idea, it's because he wants Ronaldo type wages, and he'll only get that at Manchester United-lite. He;s clearly agreed a deal, which is why he's shown all his cards.
Yes you could be right and my fear is that with saf taking the unusual decision to go public so early, that he is preparing us for an even bigger disappointment...... City....

I was at work but I imagine it was his pr people that put out the statement or way it wayne himself??..

He was the one who read it out so it's HIS words. If he had any sense or decency, even if the statement was typed by someone else, he could have come out and said "Let's do this on Thursday" or something of that sort.

He pulled a LeBron on us.

Read it again: Do you think Wayne Rooney says stuff like "I was interested to hear what Sir Alex had to say...."?

Paul Stretford has some highly paid PR people working on that one.

As an aside, did it bug anyone else that he wouldn't say in his statement that he wanted to leave, rather that he wouldn't sign the contract? He might be trying to protect his loyalty bonus.

So why are people blaming rooney for when the pr people decide to release the statement?

Because they're made on his behalf...and he has to agree to them.

It's pretty simple stuff, Striker.

So it was Rooney and not on his agents advice? We call Rooney dumb and then we call him super smart for releasing it two hours before we had a game to try to make us lose or draw the game?

You'd really have to think who has the final say on when to release a statement. Wayne or his advisors. Is Rooney employing the advisors or the other way round?

If the advisors didn't have the sense on when Wayne should give the statement, Wayne himself should have known. No one forced him to make a statement at that time.

I don't see why you're defending him.

You would think wayne but it don't always work out like that. By account his agent has a big influence over him. I don't see how two hours before the game makes much of a difference. you can release it early in the day and it would still put a cloud over the game. You can argue why not the day after? I don't think 2 hours before is that important because they're professional, the players are protected from the media up to a point

You guys might be right..that's fair enough. It's an unusual situation

And you wondered why I as laughing before.

Do we say oh it's alright, it's not Wayne's fault, it's the bloody pr people! Wayne probably really wants to stay and loves United, but they only went and told him to say the opposite.

If Rooney is that adamant that it's due to lack of investment in the team and he wants to get some supporters onside then why not release a statement saying, providing the club can guarantee we will be investing the monies received from previous high profile player sales, I will sign a new contract.

I appreciate in the real world it would be very difficult to put this in place but he could play on the fact he is a thick scouser!!

Jesus Christ. He's a grown man. It's advice, not a gun to his temple. If he says don't put out the statement then they don't. It's that cnuting simple.

Who the feck is he to make such demands?

It's still his fault if he doesn't have control over his life and important career decisions. Ill-informed or not.

Then again, we haven't seen a statement from Rooney himself where he denies what his previous statement says. So we can assume its accurate.

Mate life is a crazy place. Some kids are more mature then some adults. It's just how it is. He's 24/25 but he's not exactly mature is he?The fact hes a grown man don't matter. He's been in the spotlight since he was 16 and they live in a different world to most of us. It's not a typical upbringing

You seriously think that the PR people can release a statement regarding Rooney without the permission of him?

That really doesn't have any bearing on what he has said, how he's treated the club, and what he is doing.
