MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

Mate life is a crazy place. Some kids are more mature then some adults. It's just how it is. He's 24/25 but he's not exactly mature is he?The fact hes a grown man don't matter. He's been in the spotlight since he was 16 and they live in a different world to most of us. It's not a typical upbringing

If he had done with less shaggin' and more readin'....

You seriously think that the PR people can release a statement regarding Rooney without the permission of him?

Surely not unless he is totally incapable of thinking for himself, now that I think of it........

What exactly was bad about the statement? He's implied the team aren't good enough which is fair based how we played against barca and how city and madrid have kept spending and it's not THAT bad a statement blaming the owners like some of you guys do.

We have lost Tevez. We have lost Ronaldo. We have bought more youth. We have not looked to replace the old guard yet. Look at george best who was carrying a team for awhile when it got to old and he became disillusioned. It happens. We need to stop being so tight. If there is a problem acknowledge it. Why blame a player for acknowledging what some of you lads fear?

I'm not saying he is in any place to make such demands and yes some would react like you but many would then at least show some sympathy towards him.

Paddy Crerand said it perfectly, plenty better players than him have played for United and never had the audacity to ask for such things.

He's basically slating his team mates in public.

Classy.

Seriously, are you Paul Stretford?

So why are people blaming rooney for when the pr people decide to release the statement?

This is just so niave.

These PR statements are made because if Rooney was to tell the truth, we'd tear him to peices.

His agent on his behalf, organises these statements for damage limitation on his reputation to keep the stock up on his image rights.

Imagine a true statement was released.

"I'm basically just like that whore I got in trouble for sleeping with. I have no morals, no thoughts for the people who have cared for me for 6 years, no thoughts for the people that have paid to see me and in doing so, paid my wages. I'm just in it for me. I've been offered alot of money elsewhere and to be honest that sort of money fits alot better alongside my ego so I'd like to take it and in all honesty I couldn't give a shit about the coaching staff, team mates and fans that have got me where I am today."

How would you feel about that statement? The truth.

I have a feeling you're alot more comfortable in the bliss of ignorance, lapping up every word his carefully and tactically worded press release says.

It is THAT bad, we can blame the owners because SAF and the rest of the squad don't give a feck what we think. However, by doubting SAF and the squad Wayne is an absolute wanker.

Christ alive, you want our players questioning our ambition? Our ambition? Berbatov should walk in and ask Gill, go on then, who's coming next summer or I go? Nani as well?

These are not the players concerns. Regardless of that, the statement doesn't make sense, he can not question this clubs ambition, because that in itself, is ridiculous. We are one of the most ambitious clubs in the world, to suggest anything will change because we failed to win our fourth domestic league on the trot is absolute nonsense.

He's insulted his teammates as a group. he's not named names. That's the first thing. However i've seen and heard none of the players saying they wouldn't forgive him? Patrices hopes he'll play for United again....where's the tatrums and the, 'omgz it's too late'? ..

Striker, are you on a wum? I can not believe the posts you are coming out with.

It's like you've just taken everything at face value from Wayne, forgotten all about Fergie's statements, and desperately clinging to a hope that Wayne might stay, or that if he doesn't, that he didn't say anything that bad?

1. The timing of the statement.
2. Announcing to the whole world that he's leaving United because the players at the club at the moment do not match his ambition & has the cheek to say all that when he's playing like shit.
3. The nature of the statement itself was cold and calculated; compare it with Sir Alex's heartfelt announcements.

Lastly, any team on any given day could beat or get beaten. Barcelona were awful against Inter, what does that tell you? That ONE poor performance against Barca isn't indicative of the team's true qualities.

Wayne may be ill-informed on his decisions but so are you with your judgment if you actually think there's nothing wrong with what Wayne did or say.

Yes, because Rooney was so bloody brilliant against Barca

He played in 2 CL finals and was god awful in both of them.

Just sit back for a moment, read the above highlighted section and pretend you are a United player right now...........

Patrice isn't exactly gonna come out and say "No, I hope he doesn't play for United again", because THAT ISN'T HIS PLACE! How can you not get this?

I think you'll find Patrick (and the other players) basically slated him in a post match match interview.

First of all, the timing is all wrong. Secondly, so you're saying our team isn't good enough based on one game.

Oh and Btw just spending is not a great option for winning trophies, could you please compare how many trophies us and madrid have won in the last five years.

Seriously we call Torres and Fabregas loads of names on this forum, but this incident had made me respect them a lot more tbh. One still didn't leave his club even though it was in shambles(or atleast hasn't made his demands public) and the other rejected the lure of his boyhood club despite the stubborness of his manager to sign a new GK. We're talking about clubs who hasn't won anything as compared to us in the last 5 years.

It is far from classy from Rooney and not very professional at all. I fear this will cause massive unrest in the dressing room, just hope the team view it as a rocket up their arse and push on from here.

In relation to what he has said about ambition, I think it is stupid to say the ambition is not there any more. I mean come on, we are only a few weeks into a new season. We are still unbeaten, and are involved in every competition - even playing below standard.

I can't see how Gill would have blown a meeting with Rooney regarding future investment / spending either. Even he knows Rooney is a major asset, worth much more to the club by staying here than letting him leave.

I agree, there may be concerns regarding the Glazers and the Ronaldo money is still sat gathering dust when the likes of Scholes, Giggs and VDS are all about to hang up their boots, but for Rooney to try and bail out before he has even seen what the club is trying to do past that era is ridiculous in my opinion.

I've decided that Striker10 is either Rooney or Stretford.

Nobody else is so naive/dumb.

I've pointed that out. I said he had a 'fans view' and that's what people need to understand. It's not professional but he shouldn't be hung for it either. Are we ambitious? Rooneys talking about winning trophies and I think it's a fear that over the next few years it will get harder and harder without going out and attracting top players. It's hypocritical and it lacks faith in Sir Alex's vision but these are the most important years of a players career

At 25 we need to not let the david silvas of this world go to city or let Tevez go the way we did. It's slack. It is not showing ambition. We are dealing with it, by creating our own players. When you don't make statements of intent then it hurts the image of the club like if you sell a player, the club is falling apart.

Clearly he's been an idiot but you know what? His life is not the typical and people have to understand that he's lived in a dreamworld since he was 16. He's never had to worry about bills and the shit we have to. People don't get that. The club exposes the kids to it but if your thick, your thick and you won't get it.

Didn't Patrice say he shouldn't be played?

Your posts are frankly insulting.

So it's actually better if you insult the club as a whole rather than naming names?

"During those meetings in August I asked for assurances about the continued ability of the club to attract the top players in the world.

I met with David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad"

That's already pretty much singling out our spending this summer - Bebe, Smalling and Hernandez, as well as Rooney calling into question our spending last summer - Valencia, Owen, Obertan.

What famous big buys have we had when big name players have left? Do you live in football manager? We develop players into superstars, rarely purchase them as superstars.

look at the video again. he said he HOPES he does play but he's not Sir Alex....just look at the video ..some people need to climb down abit. It is on video after all.

Now, yes people are rounding on me but am I worried?

I don't believe some people are buying Rooney's ambition excuse.

FFS He has won everything possible on the club level, just one year of not winning the major trophies and he suddenly decides we're not ambitious enough. He calls SAF a genius and one-off, than why can't he show more trust in the manager.
