MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

United fans in my part of the world are in agreement that Rooney now needs to go, but also agree he's not wrong about the management's lack of commitment on getting new top class players to replace the old legs or Ronaldo and Tevez.

Let it go. The whole point of the Rooney (Stretford) announcement yesterday is that when people, supporters, read it, they'll say 'he's not wrong about it'. They've picked the obvious chink in Manchester United's armour. Don't buy into it.

Be honest guys, if they did sort this out & Rooney came back with a full apology in a press conference and he started banging them in again (goals I mean) and we won the PL & CL, we'd be creaming our pants over him again like last season.

If that doesn't happen...then feck him...he's dead to me...

I miss Ronaldo, and Ruud, and would welcome either back with open arms. Rooney just needs to realise, and admit, what a twat he has been, sack his manager and sign up Neville Neville as his new manager.

Manchester United 'holding statement' expected soon. But what are they holding? #mufc #fb

Accidents happen. Sometimes the results are minor; some accidents, such as a large oil spill, can have drastic consequences. In the wake of a serious incident, the public has a right to know what happened and what is going on to fix whatever happened. Your business's public relations department can provide the media with an initial holding statement that sets forth the basic facts about the incident and lets people know that you are dealing with the situation. The statement must be carefully written in clear and concise language

it's so different to when Ronnie wanted to go, isn't it?

the difference in class between them is astonishing

Yeah, I didn't understand the vitriol directed at Ronaldo when he left. Obviously I was immensely disappointed, as we all were, but at least he went about it the right way. Not once did he have a bad word to say about the club or Ferguson.

Rooney on the other hand....well, I'm not even going to get into it, the little shit is not worth it. Ronaldo was a better player and a better guy too, by the looks of things.

I wonder if we've received offers over the past day or so, i know this is highly unlikely but is it possible that this statement will basically be saying where and when Rooney will be leaving?

Oh. Thanks for that :D

Yes, Rooney's agent has done his homework and picked the best statement in terms of exposing the management. Whatever the motive, it will be our discussion point right after Rooney leaves. This we can't hide from. I can already see hundreds of threads spawning about this as soon as Rooney is confirmed to be sold.

He's as good as sold already so how much more than a 122 page thread do we need? :p

According to Fergie's interview, it seems Ruud was the one who didn't want to play with Ronaldo and Rooney 6 years ago.

As far as I'm concerned, Ruud and Rooney fall into the same ungrateful category.

In essence the holding statement is going to tell us exactly what we already know.

There has been a contract offer, Rooney has decided that he'll not renew. The door is open if he wants to restart contract talks, otherwise Manchester United will move on. Expect a deal will be made for a sale in January as this is the last time we'll get value for him. Though from Rooney's perspective any contract offered to him in January would be something he might choose to turn down. It'll be more lucrative for him if he waits to be a free agent.

Nah Ruud was not as bad. And atleast he had a reason to want to leave. He'd been carrying a rubbish team for so long and he was nearing 30 so it's atleast understandable he would want to leave.

Rooney's could have been the top earner in a winning team and he's yet just 24. Rooney's far worse than Ruud. Ruud is a legend

DiscoMirror #MUFC Unlikely to reach decipsion on #Rooney tonight.
Expect a 'holding' statement to be released within hour. Saga looks to be prolonged.

Take my word for it, Rooney is on his way to Liverpool. I know because I heard Roy Hodgson saying "Looks like Wayne's coming". I didn't hear any more because it started pissing down and I had to run for cover.

Thanks Sickipedia.

Didn't find this on "DiscoMirror's" twitter

Seriously, how long does it take to release a statement? Unless they're negotiating with Rooney or another club, there's no other option than admitting he's most likely going to be sold in January whilst we continue to move onwards and upwards.

OliverKayTimes It seems Man Utd can't "nip this in the bud" tonight. If
statement re Rooney tonight, it will be a "holding" statement (via @DiscoMirror)

Wouldn't it be great if we held Rooney to his contract, and let him rot for the best part of two seasons? Football needs a club to take this kind of stand against a wantaway player, it has done for years.

Of course it won't happen. It'll cost us £40m in lost transfer fees and salaries. Great fantasy to have though. It might set a wonderful precedent that would change football for the better.

Rooney on the other hand....well, I'm not even going to get into it, the little shit is not worth it. Ronaldo was a better player and a better guy too, by the looks of things.

The difference is how they took their words in thought, and timing.

Ronaldo always made his strongest points when its was either summer, or nearing summer transfer market, where it gave the club some time to think about it.
As for Rooney, 'Why now?' replies in the thread is all that's needed to explain.

Another thing is the form of the players. SAF protected both players, and whenever Ronaldo played despited wanting to move, he still bagged goals and still showed class. Rooney? He's been on shit form since World Cup. Ronaldo (as the main spot) got us to two Champions League finals. Rooney, when it was his turn to shine, gave us 2nd place spot in the Premiership, and a knockout against Bayern. Both have earned sliverwares alike, but who made the bigger impact? Ronaldo did.

Third matter comes with their attitudes. Ronaldo was never the one to go around and say "I'll stay in United as long as they want me" et al. Rooney did that, and now wants to transfer. Remember how Ronaldo made some outrageous comments on the first year he wanted to leave? It drove us mad, but if my memory serves me right, he did take his words back and apologized. Rooney, currently doesn't seem to show any signs of that. Not only that, Ronaldo gave time to both club and himself to sort things out, and guess what? He listened to SAF and decided to stay for one more year.

Fourth matter is their history with previous clubs. Ronaldo showed awful lot of respect towards Sporting, and left the club in a very good way. Rooney did not. His ex-club Everton, hate his guts. As someone said earlier, not leaving itself, but how he left. Rooney left traces of disloyalty in the past, and repeating leaves football fans (mainly MU fans) dumbfounded.

Fifth matter is real important. Rooney decides to say "Our team sucks". Who would be happy to say that? I mean, yes we were disappointed when the transfer window closed for not buying big targest, but he should realize that the team -while underperforming- is definitely not 'shit'. Ronaldo to my memory has not said anything as absurd as that.

Sixth matter. Scandal. I don't think I need to go any further in this subject.

To sum it up, it's natural the fans miss Ronaldo, and to be enraged with Rooney.
