Ronaldo and Fergie had and still have a very good relationship.

Rooney seems to have at least hurt SAF if not torn the relationship.

I think this is more to do with extending the contract so the club wont lose out but with a gurantee he will be sold in the summer. That way Rooney will not lose out on any bonus as it would be treated as 'not a transfer request'.

Yup fair enough, I was one of those people :D but it flies against the reasons he tried to cite when the media tide and public perception turned against him last night.

What is he going to say now, after telling told off, and outdone by Fergie in the media, I now realize, United do match my ambitions, and the investment in the squad is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet?

Ronaldo never questioned his teammates.

I don't even believe that statement to be honest, I think all this is purely money related, but he's made it now and it does exactly that, and I don't see how Fergie can stand for it.

Whatever happens, Rooney's status is diminished at this club.
 
I was just reading the awesome Gerrard timeline on BBC, and rofl at how similar this COULD end up. Gotta keep in mind that they were no way near as successful albeit, he did have like 8 trophies at 25 and was coming off a CL win, and that he was a Liverpool fan.

Similar stuff like like "Informed us he won't sign", "lack of ambition and future success", "history of the club" "too much respect for the club to get in a public slanging match".

I still doubt it though, the key in Gerrard staying is that it's boyhood team.
 
One things for sure we certainly haven't 'put this to bed' today have we, which makes me wonder, Sir Alex was so determined to end this once and for all today to avoid a saga (his words), so something major must be being discussed which is why im thinking we've offered him a new deal otherwise after fergies comments and eagerness to end all this surely wed have just said Rooneys up for sale and be done with it?

All this 'meetings with Rooneys people and awaiting the results' talk reeks of new contract on table.

If he's just discovered that he's about to lose all his just-wants-to-be-a-footballer street cred and the contracts that go with it and that the only people who'll pay the wage he wants are City, I can imagine him wondering what the hell he'd unleashed.

If he changes his mind; he'll sack Stretford; he'll do a confessional interview saying that Stretford got him while his emotions were in a mess and had told him it was all just a great negotiating ploy, not an attack on the club. And now he's sorry and he'll sign an extension, give his all and that he looks forward to leading the new generation of United (greatest club in the world) success.

The fans will "welcome" him back but the uncritical, "you can't drop Rooney," "boys will be boys," "he can scream at any teammate he likes," support will have gone and we'll sell fewer Rooney shirts.

I think an early loan/sale announcement is more likely though. (x lots)

That statement was pure bs from his pr people/agent. It's about money but maybe Rooney has thought things through after the shit storm he caused. But it's a long way way back for him now, he gained nothing by giving that statement.

It's not like Madrid care. They were throwing Robinho at us despite him having had a very good season, when they wanted Ronaldo.

Of course, but it's still been made. He has to admit that he lied in that statement, basically (since he put his name to it). Can't see it happening.

He's also been refusing to discuss terms for two months now, remember.
 
Reporter outside the ground on sky says it is more likely an agreement to go amicable until he leaves and not signing a contract with United.

Mourinho is slightly wiser when it comes to dealing with footballers than Real's top brass. Especially that idiot Calderon.
 
The SSN reporter at the ground seemed very confident that they were just trying to clear the statement before transfer listing 'amicably' so I'd say he's been given the nod that it's more about finding a decent solution so as not to make it more difficult than it needs to be than any possibility he'll stay.
 
Realistically, do you think he would cone back? Regardless of what he says or does, things will never be the same..

Myself, I would probably, in time, forgive him. You'd never forget though. He's insulted the club, but in all honesty, who has never said something they later regretted. If we take him back however, I hope there is real pressure to get rid of Paul Stretford. You know full well he wrote the statement.

Either way, I hope it's sorted. The quicker it is, the less time the media has to manipulate Rooney quotes, fans to resent him more, and saga to grow.
 
Can't see it happening at all. Yesterday most of us were convinced today would be when we announced an end to all this, more importantly, the end of Rooney at United. All that's happened today is that we've been told to wait, as a resolution has not been met, to me, that means we haven't reached a position where we can completely announce his exit.

From what's been said by from United's perspective, and the way this was handled by Rooney at the start, and the carefully planned response from Sir Alex, shows no way of a way back in. If there was any hope of a resolution, I can't believe Sir Alex would have gone ahead with that press conference, I saw that act as the exit of Rooney himself, confirmed or not. Surely it's gone far past the point where we could take him back, it would be damaging to the team, the club and the way in which United would want to be perceived as a club of our stature.

We've stood by our decisions time and time again, no player is bigger then the club. No-one before has managed to challenge the clubs integrity like Wayne has, considering his circumstance as well, so why would this be the time to go back on that? Obviously Wayne could offer a hell of a lot to us, we've seen over the years how he's bettered us as a team, but to what extent is that worth, with the bigger picture in mind?
