MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

Rooneys now public enemy number 1, not just with United fans but the view of football people in general, i think every manager whos spoken out on this has backed Sir alex and the club and lambasted Rooney, former legends of the club have as you'd expect done the same, ive not seen one respectable member of the modern game come out and back Rooneys actions, christ we even had Paul Merson off his piss bed talking sense the other night! when Paul merson thinks your a dick you really are in trouble.

And yet here we have Fredthered of Redcafe.net telling the world Rooney and his agent have played a blinder.......ill just leave it there but all ill say is.....i hope freds getting the help he needs.

The one thing that I've been shocked by so far is the absence of any overt recognition on here of what Rooney going to City would mean. I wrote a post about it on one of the threads that got deleted, but in summary: it'll be fecking horrendous, from every possible angle. One thing's for sure, I wouldn't bother going to another Derby

There's also been a weird lack of shock at the merest possibility of this happening, as far as I can tell it would be without precedent, except perhaps Figo, Di Stefano and the rest of Barca's traitors (not a local rivalry though) or perhaps Mo Johnston. For a major uropean club to sell their best player to their inferior local rivals purely because he wants more money would be astonishing...I struggle to think of a comparison

That scouse cnut could do considerable damage to this city, Im amazed people aren't more aware of this.

Well for me I am just trying not to think about that possibility as it is too horrendous for my mind to digest!

I guess the only comparable in England was when Sol Campbell went from Spurs to Arsenal but this would obviously be a whole other level

I hope to feck that Jose comes in and takes him to Madrid

Well Gill messed up the contracts talk by stalling no doubt about that. And now the new policy is to start talking with a player that got only 12 months left on the contract, madness!:wenger:

I don't see how Rooney's agent has been clever. At the minute it's Rooney that's looking the idiot in all of this.

Why the hell do you think he's now starting to back peddle? Holding talks with United? Where were these 3 months ago. He's been made to look like an utter cnut, and really, the only way he's ever going to regain any sort of credibility is by staying at United. If he leaves, he will always be known as the biggest cnut in football history. He's destroyed his reputation and I wouldn't doubt if some if not most of his sponsors have threatened to leave him if he persists with acting the cnut.

how can he damage United. He will be treated like a paraiah by us is all.

think is off to Real in all honesty. No way back for him, even if Sir Alex had left the 'door open' so to speak. But then that may be just so it does not look like the club is forcing him out.

He's already lost two sponsors in the wake of his prostitute scandal.

But I don't think sponsors will leave him just because he leaves Man Utd.

Who says that is the policy? That is complete bullshit

They tried to get Rooney to sign with over 2 year left but he stalled and left it last minute in this transfer window to announce he wasnt signing - it was obviously all planned way back and also explains his poor form at the World Cup etc.

Oh we are aware but luckily, as a temporary emergency measure, I have managed to convince myself that the club wll refuse to sell him to City, just as they refused to sell Heinze to Liverpool.

I said he can damage the city, the renewed rivarly with City could be good for the place, but Cook's cnuts ltd. have decided to ramp up the hostility as high as they possibly can, and this would take it to a whole new extreme. You just know that they'd do something with Rooney to make the welcome to Manchester shit look like playful banter. Imagine how horrid that hypothetical day he signed would be, it could make the place deeply unpleasant for quite awhile. And then the first derby, Jesus, it'll be horrendous.

I was thinking this also.
Nike club sponsors could quite easily end up getting involved also as god only knows what sort of contracts are there. Could they pull the plug on rooney?

Exactly. So how have his agents played a blinder? Surely they've contributed to the mess he's in now?

Not because he leaves United particularly, but with everyone slating him, he's not someone you want as the face of your company or product.

I think most people have been trying to avoid thinking about it. His going to City would probably destroy his image publicly. Who would admire someone who backstabbed the greatest manager in history at one of the top 2/3 clubs in the world for greed. There's no other explanation for going to City. I'm not sure how he would be able to live in Manchester if he made the move. He and Colleen would get constant harassment anywhere they went, and I'm not sure they'd be especially safe(given tonight's demonstrations).

What was the point in holding talks with Rooney if he stated he was leaving due to lack of ambition of Manchester United? he said he was unhappy as early as July....

His stock as a role model will be severely damaged if he leaves United this way.

That aside, being the talisman for Manchester United is far far more attractive to sponsors who know his image will be seen on products world wide, than if he is Manchester City's latest whore.

I was thinking about this earlier and the only thing I could come up with was a life-size, solid-gold statue in Piccadilly of Rooney wearing a City shirt giving it to Fergie up the arse.

can i please get a update?

i watched espn soccernet press pass around 12 hours ago and they where under the impression we would offer him a better take it or leave it contract  (you can say what you like about tommy smith but he is sticking up for united big time and giving it to rooney  )

this morning i read our statement and more fecking confused than ever :wenger: :wenger:

with a player as valuable as Rooney, you get him to sign a new contract 2 years before it expires. If that does not happen, you tell him we are selling him. Thats it. We could have got more than Ronaldo, the form he was in last season.

That way, you take away the power from the players hands. Sure Rooney and his advisors played this to their advantage. But business is business and Gill buggered up.

To me it seems like talks started in August maybe July and it led to Gill calling Fergie mid-August saying he won't sign a new contract. Maybe City gave Rooney a mega offer this summer he thought he couldn't refuse. So if Gill had talked with Rooney in February/March he might have signed before his head had been turned by money but that is just plain guessing. He might have ended up leaving anyway despite signing a new contract but it sure would have given United more leverage in this whole saga.

According to what the club has been saying, talks have started months ago, towards the end of last season if I remember correctly. Unfortunately such huge contracts never seem to be resolved quickly so I'm a bit on the fence about this one.

He simply wouldn't be able to set foot in the city again, I'm a mild-mannered dull as dishwater middle class nerd with glasses, and if I saw him I'd abuse the hell out of him. God knows what it'd be like if he ran into a couple of drunk hardcore reds a few weeks after scoring a winner against us and kissing City's fake stars. But feck him, it's the relationship between the fans which is the real concern, anyone remember how good the pre-match stuff back in February 08 felt, seeing the city united like that, and now we're edging towards this...

Thats what i think we may have done given tonight's statement, bloody hope not though, only thing that shite deserves is a kick out the door and a 'thanks for your service now feck off' from Sir Alex.

The story as I know it:

Rooney fecks prosy
Gets aids
Wants to leave country

Can't blame him.

I'm under the impression that talks started earlier than that, possibly May (after the season had ended) but had to be called off over the summer because of the World Cup. They were set to resume when Rooney had returned from the WC and his holiday (the same as Vidic).

I reckon he was tapped up at the World Cup or even just before - would explain his terrible form as he was obviously mentally out of sorts.

You know damn well the press and the opposition are going to come firmly out on Rooneys side now. So for a PR exercise he has pulled a blinder. He will have every neutral fan sat firmly saying "fair play to the lad.. what a hero.. coming out and speaking openly"

Back of the net!

The only thing that can be said for sure is that everybody press and all have not got a clue what happened today, everybody is guessing

Considering the dogs abuse he is getting from every single manager, most pundits and fans of other clubs I think you are right. They clearly nailed it.

cheers man..

i guess if we did tell him to feck off and kick him out the door his value would diminish even worse than it is now since all the clubs would know we are desperate to rid off him?

guess we need to wait to see what eventuates ..
