MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

If Rooney stays United will look like fecking mugs!

Bullied by a little cnut of a player and his agent for more money.

Nobody disrespects SAF in such a way and manages to stay... there is zero chance he will stay. It just sucks we're stuck with an expensive trouble maker for the next 10 - 12 weeks until the transfer window opens.

My only sense of relief is the squad will have a long long time to give Rooney payback in the dressing room for being the lead prankster.

----

As for the fans showing up at his house... that's retarded scary. His wife and kid don't deserve to be punished with fright over Rooney's stupidity. How about some respect for women and children?

Bookies and odds had us on evens for signing Torres at one point, odds on for Benzema, Aguero....

Wait till something of substance comes out.

So now the reports are he's thinking about staying, after all the crap he's been given and probably less than expected phone calls about how much he wants, possibly due to his statement, and it being the second time he's turned and bitten the hand of the club feeding him.

Well if he stays, he's going to be even thicker skinned than before, and like the last greedy so and so who held the club to ransom, will have to earn back the love of the fans, if indeed in this case it's possible. Rio did it, but all of that was played out behind closed doors with no public statement except for the press building the story up. This is worse of course due to the statement, however if he does U-turn, then he's got to recapture the form from last year, do better and win us let's say the league and Champions league for us, then perhaps he'll work his way up from bottom of the popular stakes behind Park and Anderson, back up to hero status.

If he fecking stays, he needs to win back the fans and the players. It will be a big cock-up on his part and the agent's if he stays now.

Are there any details as to if we have offered him an improved contract than before? (I hope not)

See I don't see it this way. I don't want him to stay, but if he does I see it as being comprehensively beaten by Fergie.

If this was actually initially over a contract, he wouldn't have come out and made all the overtures about leaving. He'd know the reaction. His camp wouldn't have leaked the not signing bit, he wouldn't have made his statement which was very deliberately made in the past sense "I will always owe sir Alex who's helped me etc etc"...He was excusing leaving.

If he stays however, I see it as fan power, mixed with Fergie power fecking over player power.

Ferguson made him look a right dick and exposed him - Him and Streford imagined he'd do what he always does, bat away questions grumpily, maybe actually fall out with the player and give Wayne the excuse he originally went for (the breakdown)....instead what happened was the football world turned on him and he realised his legacy and image was crumbling. He's stuck between a rock and a hard place and has to grovel now to win back support. He's been chastised.

That's how I'd see it anyway....I could be being optimistic.

That's a very optimistic outlook of the situation.

Oh feck off. We're gonna come out of this looking like rights twats if he stays.

Are you lonely or something?

You've never discussed things with fellow professionals(or family I guess) and they've had an effect on your decisions? Because I know I have changed my mind on after discussing it and I wouldn't trust any of these as much as Rooney trusts Stretford, whos been there with him since he's been 15.

Way to avoid the question. Coward.

DTguardian Just taken a call that Rooney is staying. Statement from #MUFC imminent . .

bookies suspend betting all the time
he is an arsehole and wont be staying

probably that twat is going to run down his contract , or will be staying till the summer

he certainly wont be signing a new contract

Graham Hunter reporting that preliminary talks have definitely been held with Barca.

Perez also very keen.

Spanish press say Rooney's people contacted Barcelona and Real Madrid a month or so ago, but the clubs thought it was just them "drumming up some interest to improve his negotiating position with United."

Mourinho was still saying he thought Rooney would stay with United after Tuesday's match (and SAF's press conference) - so I don't think either club were taking it too seriously until this week.

I would love to be able to agree with you, but sadly I don't.

If ROoney stays then its for one reason and one reason only. It suits Rooney.

The start reality is United needs Rooney more than Rooney needs United, and if he changes his mind United wont be there telling him "nah feck off.. we don't want you"

If Rooney changes his mind then Gill and Co will be there kissing his arse telling him "you're made the best choice.. we will do anything you want from here on in".

I dont like it, but that sadly is the way it is.

Signed a new contract

I do wish life was as simple as one word answers though. It'd make it all so simple

I think the 'staying' bit would mean they've agreed terms for a new contract. That is what these meeting are for. Either they agree on new terms, or he leaves asap.

Hearing word @discomirror's story was correct and Rooney is staying at Manchester United. Statement imminent...
