MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

Once a blue, always a red, almost a blue, still a red.

We caved into his $$$ demands. Simple as that.

I'm disgusted quite frankly.

There should be a lot of feckers on here eating humble pie now. If it was all about money it would make no sense for him to have signed a new deal with us. Taking the piss out of those of us who didn't vilify him before he had actually moved to Manchester City for being deluded or living in dream-worlds.

95% of the forum, if he signed a new deal Ferguson wants him to stay too...

Lou Macari talking on SSN  'nothing in football has shocked me more than this week'

see you in two weeks hectic

oh and for the cnuts that gave me abuse. Pays to have an open mind don't you think?..

I stand by what I said that Rooney was in the wrong. If he had wanted a pay raise, he had taken it too far.

It's good news he's still a United player but I doubt it'll ever be the same again. His status among fans at least.

i think after a ronaldo summer transfer saga a while ago ronnie said "when you starting scoring again people forget"

something along those lines and although wazza has been a cnut compared to ronnie it is still true

I'm not backtracking. I still think he's a cnut, and he just got shitscared of the backlash that faced him after his announcement that he wanted to leave and critising the team and the players for not being good enough for him.

Wayne Rooney has agreed a new 5 year contract to stay at Manchester United until at least June 2015.

The agreement follows intensive discussions between the Club and the player’s representatives and means that by the end of his contract Wayne will have been a Manchester United player for 11 years.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “It’s been a difficult week, but the intensity of the coverage is what we expect at Manchester United. I said to the boy that the door is always open and I’m delighted Wayne has agreed to stay.

“Sometimes, when you’re in a club, it can be hard to realise just how big it is and it takes something like the events of the last few days to make you understand. I think Wayne now understands what a great club Manchester United is.

“I’m pleased he has accepted the challenge to guide the younger players and establish himself as one of United’s great players. It shows character and belief in what we stand for.

“I’m sure everyone involved with the Club will now get behind Wayne and show him the support he needs to produce the performances we know he is capable of.”

Wayne Rooney said: “I’m delighted to sign another deal at United. In the last couple of days, I’ve talked to the Manager and the owners and they’ve convinced me this is where I belong. I said on Wednesday the Manager’s a genius and it’s his belief and support that have convinced me to stay.

“I’m signing a new deal in the absolute belief that the management, coaching staff, board and owners are totally committed to making sure United maintains its proud winning history – which is the reason I joined the Club in the first place.

“I’m sure the fans over the last week have felt let down by what they’ve read and seen. But my position was from concern over the future. The fans have been brilliant with me since I arrived and it’s up to me through my performances to win them over again.”

Excellent news. I suspect thicko had some sense knocked into him.

I'm a tad happy.

Hmm. I bet an extra 60k a week was enough to help him guide the "youngsters"

How dare he take a bit of time to assess his future. How dare he express his concern about the direction the club is going in. How dare he. And at a time when he is struggling mentally, has marital problems, is out of form for club and country, carrying the burden of expectation. What a cnut!

this is the best news possible if he is staying. i don't think he every seriously wanted to leave.

Your bloody right. It's going to take a LOT to win the fans over again
