MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

I understand where you're coming from but I don't really see it (or don't want to see it :nervous:) because he could easily have waited till January and gone to the highest bidder or he could have bought his contract out and receive a MASSIVE signing on fee.

If Rooney is to leave at the summer, I don't see why we would want to play him since his heart won't be with us.

No, he could have gone to the highest bidder we were willing to let him go to. Maybe he didnt want to go to Spain? Maybe he's dug his heels in and said its City for me.

In what circumstances might we back down and accept the money from City, to send them the player that will win them the league?

Well maybe if the player signs a long contract so they have to pay through the nose, and maybe if the player plays his heart out till the summer when we have more time to find a replacement. Maybe thats the only way we'd accept his desired move.

For 2 months he has been "adamant" about leaving, he's said his team mates arent good enough and that the club doesnt have enough ambition. No he's not going to be turned around and committed long term after a day of talks. Once that stuff is in his head its only a matter of time. We kept Ruud one more season, we kept Ronaldo one more season, we'll be keeping Rooney one more season. And then see ya scouse

stick him in the reserves for 5 years....

but seriously - Rooney was a prick and a misguided one at that

maybe he's looking at steven gerrard - wins the CL but puts in the transfer request

after fan protests etc.. he gives in and signs a new 5 year

since then he's achieved nothing

he needs to earn our respect again but the club owes it to the fans to try and ensure that we do all we can to compete

Congratulations Wayne, you thick cnut.

Maybe after the World Cup he realised he gets turned on by being booed and needs that again to keep him from cheating on Colleen?

I don't know who the feck has pissed me off more.

United for bowing down to him or him for pulling this stunt.

I can't believe that the clubs bowed down to the classless little cnut.
Not like you to have a negative viewpoint on something Fred.

Maybe because we have accepted that he'll leave in the summer and for the club he wants to go to.

But by signing a new contract and playing his current one out till then, it was what we needed from him to accept it.

I'm not sure how anyone can have any faith that he's been completely turned around in a few days and is now committed long term.

either way we get some reinforcements as SAF said we will in due course when the oldies retire (which i believe will happpen ) and rooney stays OR we get s much bigger transfer sum when he goes..

atleast SAF has managed to get him to sing a contract as we would have got fuk all if he left in jan/end of the season..

HE'S SHIT - no-one has said that
HE'S OVER-RATED - well he is, I would've told you that weeks ago, top player mind
WE DONT NEED HIM - I'm not sure we do, I'd still be delighted with a straight swap with him and a world class centre mid.
WE DONT WANT HIM - I want what SAF wants
HE CAN feck OFF - He's acted like a absolute wanker but if SAF wants him, who the feck are we to go against the great man
YOU WILL NEVER PLAY AGAIN - Why will I never play again, that's just mean

That was 2 days ago.

Now look.. He's the patron saint of Manchester. - feckING BULLSHIT you big drama queen!!

makes me sick.

..

I'm still shocked by this. What a prat.

5 goals a game now at least. Selfish twat

Im happy he has shown concern. But to do basically do it in public (essentially blasting his teammates, squad and club) was out of order. He might have been advised incorrectly

"I met with David Gill [United chief executive] last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad," Rooney confirms.

"I then told him that I would not be signing a new contract."

Hes not signing a new contract, and has around 18 months left which puts us in a situation of having to sell him. There is no where in that statement that he says "im considering my options" nor does he say ferguson is wrong that he wants to leave or is adamant that he wants to leave, etc.
Yes he doesnt say "im leaving United" but by saying im not signing a new contract cos the club has no ambitions is basically saying he wants out.

Ive kept quiet on this the last few days because I had a feeling he would end up staying and signing a new contract, but as I said, this has basically fecked off a lot of our fans on Rooney.

Do you not see the difference between "I told him I would not be signing a new contract", i.e at that moment, and "I will not sign a contract", i.e ever.

He was explaining why he hadn't signed a contract yet not announcing his intention to leave. Those were his reasons. He was wrong, but they're an understandable concern.

It wasn't handled in the best manner but oh well. Hopefully he'll learn and realise who around him is really going to help him...

Completely shocked by this. I still harness the same feelings as I did when I thought he was pretty much off, that he's been a complete disgrace. The lad needs to show some serious form and commitment to go back up in my estimates, and I can't see things ever being the same way again.

Roy Keane never did anything remotely similar to this did he? He never held out to the last minute to sign a contract in 99, and he never bad mouthed his own team mates did he?

He was a cnut as well.

Can't believe this.

Is there a chance he'll be sold over summer? feck me if he doesn't have a whole lot of making-up to do..... This has a bit of Stevie G/Chav feel about it.

I don't know who the feck has pissed me off more.

United for bowing down to him or him for pulling this stunt.

I can't believe that the clubs bowed down to the classless little cnut.

How did you know United bowed down?

Sounds to me as though the same offer remained on the table and Rooney signed it.

Lads I was out for a few hours so I'm lost in terms of the latest development. What the hell is going on ?

We've sold Rooney, re-signed him, named a stand after Rooney's agent and our Cows are back in the field properly.

Well thank God the drama is over. But that was the easy bit for Rooney.

The hard bit will be to win back the support and trust of his team-mates. Vidic, Fletch and Evra in particular were not happy at all with him. He is very popular with the younger players in the squad, so that will help him. But if I were him during his next training session I would stay well out of the way of Vidic during the 5 a side….

I think a previous poster described it perfectly:

Rooney "ADAMANTLY" wanted to leave for 2 months

Fergie make the saga public

Rooney shat himself

Rooney did a u-turn based on the media backlash

Rooney ends up signing in 2 days. After closing the door on United for TWO WHOLE MONTHS.

Not wanting to sound like a tranfer muppet, but maybe Rooney was promised we'll spend significantly next summer? Well, we need to do anyway with Giggsy and Scholes probably retiring...

The picture on SSN right now has made me ridiculously angry.

I'm not quite sure why

Why are people saying that the club has bowed down, are we sure that Rooney and his management aren't the ones that bowed down?

fecking drama queens the lot of ya.

United have bowed down to the classless little cnut.

So the club lacks ambition ?

"here Wayne, have £20k a week more "

"Great thanks.. thats just proven how ambitious you are "
