The hypocrisy on here is unbelievable. Almost everyone has been expressing concerns about the calibre of player we have allowed to leave vs the calibre of player brought in. Why is it so unbelievable that Rooney also had similar concerns and that, when he asked Gill about it, Gill's response wasn't entirely convincing?
Again, most people on here believe Gill is lying every time he opens his mouth and is only saying stuff to keep his job.
I still don't know why Rooney's people made it public first. There were some rumours in the paper a day or two before Fergie went public with it and then Rooney made a public statement in response to Fergie's, iirc.

We have no idea of the details of his contract but it could be something along the lines of a pretty "normal" basic wage which could go up to something crazy if he reaches certain scoring targets, if the team wins PLs and CLs and if a certain amount of Rooney merchandise gets sold. That kind of thing.
I doubt very much it is just a straight £250k or something which he just gets as a basic and all this other stuff is on top of that.

Psychology is a good subject for anyone to realize these things. It is a fear that drives people to other thoughts so that they can accept it and dream of other things. Agree. It's the same when fans question transfer fees and someone tells them they don't need to care because it's not out of their pockets. Well, they do need to care because the money will lack elsewhere.
Thing is I think they're both on £100k a week plus, Sneijder I think is on £130k, so yes while theoretically it would improve our squad to have them both on £180k it could never happen.
Rooney is simply getting the rate of a top player, Messi, Ronaldo, Kaka, Ibra, Eto'o are all getting more as things stand.
Sneijder would be about 110k a week. Higuain is probably at 70k or 80k a week - I dont think he is on 100k+ a week.

Including image rights which is where the 250k a week figure comes from I think the evidence suggests they are, its discussed in fair depth in this thread: https://www.redcafe.net/f7/messis-wages-289845/. Also remember these figures are last seasons, so all the yearly wage increases would have kicked in by now raising the levels probably between 10-25% depending on the contract. (Ronaldo and Kaka were both reported to have 25% year on year increases.)
At the end of the day no-one really knows the true levels, but I think from the evidence there is around its fair to assume that Rooney is just about roughly on a par with the top earners. We are competing in an international market, if we were to sign Higuain or Sneijder do you think they would not ask for similar top whack when it is fairly certain City would blow us out the water whatever we offered.
We've got two players in Hargreaves and neville who don't actually play who's salaries will cover the difference.
I believe Ronaldo is the highest paid player in the world on £11.3m which is obviously ridiculous but he is arguably the best player in the world so we can't have too many complaints, I suppose.

Personally looking at the situation that unfolded, I wonder if Stertford had been whispering things to Rooney and manipulating the situation to engineer a move away and get himself a payday.

The contract that Higuain signed before the start of this season was for about 3.5 million euros a year and Sneijder is currently on 4 million euros a year. Both of them would jump at the chance of playing for us at anywhere close to Rooney's earlier wages of 90k per week
Sneijder wanted 6m at the beginning of the negotiations which was an obstacle. As he has established himself now and attracts more interest, I guess 6m would be the starting point. In other words 110k pounds a week.
Sneijder wouldn't jump at the chance to play for us, he has stressed that he doesn't want to leave because he's happy at Inter. After the nightmare he had in Spain it's hardly surprising that he doesn't want to leave a club where he's happy.

I just can't see that happening. As said above Snejder's current negotiations are dragging on and I would assume he is looking for way in excess of 100k a week and if true about Higuain's contract I'm surprised but could you really see a situation where we had a bit accepted that City wouldn't match that bid then offer nearly 200k wages in order to get their man. I'd be willing to bet they would considering what they already pay to Adebayor.
Well, that's something I have been wondering for months now. Their wage bill exceeds their turnover at the moment and even CL football won't make that much of a difference in that regard.
In the meantime, players are looking at those wages and using it as a barometer. Seems to be a case of "we'll worry about that later - in the meantime, fill your wallet!"

I don't know about you, but I for one never doubt this clubs ambition. I have faith and loyalty to it. And we don't have the same money as Chelsea, City, Real - saying that isn't disrespectful in any sense. Just fact.
Barca don't seem to have the money really now (seeing about all their rumoured debt) but they still have the players to do well like us and the fans and players have the confidence they can win it all (unlike one of ours).

Tabloid bollox is my guess, they all had him as having gone, all of them, they all had 'inside info' that the deal with City was done, now they've all been made to look pretty fecking stupid, oops erm maybe the inside info was wrong? nope cant say that makes us look like a bunch of idiots so we say he signed ONLY to keep his value high and with unprecedented escape clauses.....righto.
