So we should go around spunking 42million pounds on luxury players that'll lead to the slowing down of the development of one of the finest young players in the world because he could get injured or stagnate? What sort of logic is that? We have more pressing needs to attend to with those sorts of funds+wages. Plus we already have more than capable players to play his best position.

Who said anything about replacing the whole team with kids? Mind you dortmund won back to back titles and are where they are largely due to kids and their development.

I also think you'll find that a lot of kids with real high end potential develop into the footballers that is hoped when the come through and Januzaj happens to be a kid with real high end potential, not just one from the bag.
 
We bought RVP when we had Hernandez and Welbeck. Won us the title. Even Barcelona pay a lot for superstar players despite bringing young players through. Its the competition with top players thats more likely to make a young player like Januzaj as good as someone like Ozil.
 
How anyone can argue that we should NOT have signed Ozil baffles me.

My understanding was that United turned him down. Nothing to do with agents. According to Andy Mitten anyway. He was definitely offered to us though.
 
He will tear us a new one today if we let Arsenal dictate the tempo. If we can maintain a high-tempo pressing and keep the game at 100km/hr, his influence on the game will be greatly limited.

I heard United weren't willing to pay his wages, and I suppose it could be possible that his agent asked for silly money. In any case, I don't think we would have paid £42m for a player when we already have Rooney and Kagawa who can play there. Not saying they're better than Ozil, but he's not 42m better than them.

Also irks me when ABUs laugh at Moyes for signing Fellaini instead of Ozil. Fecking different positions. Morons, looking at you DailyMail comments section.

I've explained it in the past but nobody believed me, even when I said in 2012 that Moyes would replace Fergie.

I don't expect anyone to believe me as my story annoyingly sounds like the stereotypical ITK bollocks.

I also got told that we ideally want 5 players. 2 fuulbacks, 2 mids and maybe a striker, depending on a few things.
 
He goes missing a hell of a lot and you couldn't rely on him tactically to carry out a defensive performance like we did today.
 
He found it tough against us, Cazorla too. One of the main reasons being Giroud struggled and wasnt able to play the ball off to them like he has done near enough every week this season. But Arsenal will expect more than he managed today

Had a shit game today. Seemed like the intensity of the game was too much for him. Just like the previous El Clasicos.
 
Calm down people. It's his first two months in the league. He's outstanding.
 
Its 1 game. I'm sure Arsenal fans would expect better having spent so much on him, but 1 game doesn't mean he isnt suddenly one of the best players in the world. Just as long as he doesnt develop a habit like this for them
 
Hah. Can't believe people are trying to consider today's performance to vindicate any disagreement they might feel regarding whether we'd have much use for him. You wouldn't think Ramsay or Giroud were having good seasons either based off this performance... Nor did Wilshere look anything like his extremely talented self when he came on.

To be fair your lot sat back with 9 or 10 men behind the ball most of the game and superior players to him have struggled with that. I think his problem today is when he gets the ball there is nobody running in behind or with pace.
 
I'm betting people trying to play Ozil's abilities down will be the same ones who were making excuses for Kagawa for so long!
 
Clearly a world class player but... You would never see him give a performance like Rooney did today. That's why Rooney is pretty much irreplaceable for United and so important. Not only is he a great player, but he has the work rate that pretty much only Tevez has I think. Ozil is class on the ball but without it he does next to nothing defensively, sort of like Kagawa, and some teams just can't afford players like that. His best work comes in the attacking third, like Shinji, and we just don't need that type of player right now.

Ozil can always do something, even in a game like that one today - so I was pleased that he didn't. But, yeah, he showed why he used to get taken off at halftime in big games for Madrid. That said, he did eventually become a force against Barcelona for example. He's a very good player, I was pleased with how well we blanked him out.
 
And this is the problem with Ozil. He's still yet to perform well consistently in big games. Needs to change that.

Edit - I know he was excellent vs. Barcelona in a couple of games in 2012, but still yet to show true quality regularly in "big" games...
