Mino Raiola | Has Died | New Thread

I read somewhere recently (apologies, can't recall where) that Raiola is actually one of the 'good guys' as far as agents go.

He acts in their best interests and always does what he thinks is right for his client. Apparently, he doesn't even tie his clients up in contracts - they're free to leave him whenever they want if they feel he's not doing best by them.

Anyone know where this story came from? It was an interesting read and opened my eyes a bit towards him.

Everyone's liking us being cosy with Mendes and Raiola which is all hunky dory. His clients are getting paid and we're improving our squad.

But for argument sake we buy Pogba just wait until he wants a new contract or wants to leave - he's a nightmare when against you as Dortmund are learning.

Can't see this being an issue with Mkh and certainly not Zlatan.

That is not really the agents fault, its the fault of the player. If the player wants to leave the agent must try to carry out his wishes, that is the job of the agent.

Abdolutely but the way he goes about it is the reason certain people won't like him. It's not as if he doesn't tell his client so and so can offer us X amount as well. he'll have a major influence on his clients.

No one sees it when the clubs are arseholes! Look at the way we treated LVG and Moyes! No loyalty. It's a results game which is all about £$. Accept it, or leave!

Who cares if he is a cnut? He does his job and uses every tool he has. If we get Pogba and he wants to leave in a few years, i know he will be a cnut, but that is to be expected fom both of them. The players go to him for a reason, most of them are not angels either. Every party wants the best deal or what is the best for their interest, so i dont have a problem with that.

It's from the players themselves for example Matuidi ditched his agent because he saw the relationship that Raiola had with Maxwell, unlike other agents Raiola will call his players even when they are not in negotiations, he will spend a day or two with them, go on holidays.
Maxwell explained that when he was miserable at Barcelona Raiola decided to spend as many time as he could in Barcelona, he just wanted to cheer him up.

Zlatan painted a very rosy picture of him in his 'I am Zlatan' book, portraying him as very loyal who would do anything for his client. He now sees him more like a family member than an agent.

In one part of the book Zlatan describes how Raiola speeded up the transfer to Milan from Barcelona. They were willing to let Zlatan leave but wanted as much money as possible and Milan was lowballing them. Raiola then apparently stormed into the offices of the Barca executives and told them that Zlatan wanted to go to Real Madrid (they admitted in the book that Real Madrid wasn't interested at that point) prompting the executives to let him leave on a loan to Milan as they didn't want to sell him to their biggest rivals.

Even though Raiola fecked us over with Pogba in the first place you have to say in hindsight that he made the right decision for his client.

True, iirc Nedved was also Raiola's client and even when Juve got demoted, he was able to decide to stay at the club. Furthermore, Hamsik is his client and he's been at Napoli forever. These players that are moving around all Willy nilly are doing it at their own accord.

So then as the tweet yesterday said ... Zlatan? check! Mkhitaryan? check... only Matuidi and Pogba remaining. He might go from being a disliked man to an adored one on the Caf.

Where's this tweet?

When we are top 4 again. . we will have more leverage. For now we should be grateful. . we're getting access to some quality shizzle.

That's the point. Now we're heavily dependent on agents - once we're on the top again, it will get easier to attract players

I don't see the issue.

Modern football is run by agents.

Feels weird that he's allowed Zlatan go to a club that hasn't also got eyes on Maxwell

It's in Raiola's interest to keep his players happy. If he does a move they don't like, he'll lose rep. If his clients move, it's because they want to move.

Surely an agent has more power than just following the client's wishes. Players also listen to their agents and I'm sure Raiola had a part in convincing Pogba to move from Utd so that he could get some $$$ as well. There are all sorts of underhand dealings of clubs with agents.

That said, I hope he shifts Pogba's decision in our favor.

If he pulls off Pogba to us, three clients commission earned. He'll need to charter a plane to carry all that united cash home with him.

He isnt ready yet, but he has a lot of potential. Not too brilliant of the ball but cant remember the last young full back who's this good defensively, his slidings and tackles are insane.

Yeah, that's what i got from the small samples i've seen of him too.
Good defensively, but still lacks in attack.

You don't think he would be worth a pun this summer?

As an Ajax fan, for both sides no, he needs to gain some experience, work on his attacking game (the new coach Bosz plays attacking football so could be a good shot) and needs to be one of the best players in the Eredivisie before he moves to such a big club, even that doesnt guarantee succes always, look at Memphis, although I hope he can turn it round.

"go feck yourselves, or something along the lines of that"

I remember reading Zlatan's bio and he recounted how Raiola told him he's shit and can't get his move without showing proper goal number.

Kinda changed my opinion of him a bit. Yea he's still shady as feck but the mafioso doesn't sell snake oil

we are going to hate this man so much next year

Sort of guy who's going to be your best friend so long as you keep him financially happy but a right pain in the arse when he's against you

Suppose United will just keep him happy

I hate all these greedy agents on principle, but i cant help but thinking we're going about this the right way. Most footballers are as close to their agents as they are to their own families, and this summer we have sent a huge message out to every agent on the planet that we're the golden ticket if they convince their players to come to us.

We've lost a lot of players over the years because of our refusal to deal with agents. Now we should have the pick of Europe's elite.

Who own Man Utd, Raiola does. It's good to have him on board with the clients that he has. It will interesting to see who Mendes wants to move to United in order to compete for Woody's attention and $$$$
