Minute by Minute: Villarreal CF vs. Manchester United

Both teams starting to look a lot more threatening now with both wingers getting involved for United and Ibagaza, Pires, Cazorla and Rossi starting to get involved more for Villareal.
 
Great interchange with O'Shea and Ronaldo.

Eventually leads to nothing with a poor pass from O'Shea.
 
Nani goes on a nice run up the left wing and gets tackled by Fuentes, Javi Venta looks edgy with that yellow card now.

Rossi strays offside.
 
Nani runs clear and eventually two defenders have to get involved to stop him from progressing down the left.

Evra with the throw. Fletcher tries to win a corner to no avail and Villareal clear. Evans gives the ball away but Rossi is offside as he tries to retrieve the ball.
 
Rooney sets up Ronaldo with a brilliant touch on the counter attack and Ronaldo crashes a shot against the bar. Lopez may have gotten a touch on it, if so it was a vitak tiuch.
 
Woah what an awesome move from United. Anderson finds Rooney with a great ball as United break. Rooney tees Ronaldo up whose cracking shot is saved by Lopez who tips it against the bar. Best moment of a dull half.
 
Anderson has been really energetic as he gets the ball off Senna. Ronaldo is then fouled in guess where, Ronaldo area.

Free kick to United.

Ronaldo to take the free kick in a central area. The keeper pushes the shot away as it was going towards the low far corner.

Corner to United which leads to an Evans shot which is blocked and cleared by Villareal.
 
Eguren gets a yellow for a foul on Ronaldo quite far out. Undeserved yellow but it's good to see Ronaldo getting some protection.

Ronaldo hits the freekick to the left hand side of the net and the keeper makes a decent save.
 
Senna is going to get subbed off, presumably for a earlier tackle from Fletcher in which Senna looked to injure his knee.
 
Senna wants to go off. Has had enough of playing with Anderson. His knee is injured anyway.

You can hear Viva Ronaldo from the United crowd. United are finishing the half the stronger side.
 
Rooney leading the line with a brilliant work-rate and he's stretching the defenders all over the place.

Would have been 1-0 to United had it not been a terrific piece of goalkeeping from Diego Lopez.

Anderson has worked his socks off in the middle and Evra is causing them all sorts of problems down the left. Ronaldo and Nani have started to come into the game. Hopefully this continues in the 2nd half.
 
Second half starts, Senna finally goes off for Villareal as they kick off. Inexperienced Bruno comes on.
 
United started off the marginally better team in the first 10 minutes or so. They looked to get at Javi Venta and got a few crosses in from the wing, although none of them reached their target.

Villareal started to get back into the game and it opened up a bit, although there were still no clear cut chances.

The game was then played at a steady pace from then until the last 10 minutes. Some nice play from Rooney and Rossi at seperate time created a half chance on either side.

Nani and Ronaldo then started to get into the game more and Ronaldo hit a brilliant shot from 25 yards out and the keeper made a great save.
 
Nani immediately breaks clear down the left and wins a corner which he will take.

The corner is cleared by Villareal easily.
 
Second half kicks off with Nani immediately getting at them and again United attacking the left wing to good effect.

Some great interplay from Villareal gets them out of a difficult position and they win a throw just past the halfway line.
 
Corner in from Ibagaza is poor and United win the goal kick.

Should have been another corner as Evra clearly got a touch on it.
 
Carzola goes pass Evra but his cross is cleared by Evans for a corner to Villareal.

Corner fails to beat Evra and it's a goal kick wrongly to united.
 
Great ball whipped in by the sub Bruno, Evans and Rossi both hesitated in attacking the ball and Evra clears up.
 
Cross from Bruno caused United some trouble at the back. Evra just about clears.
 
A poor tackle by Fletcher gives a free kick to Villareal after some nice possession play by United.
 
A brilliant flick by Rooney leads to Ronaldo breaking through and he gets a good shot in.

Very poor dive by Rooney after winning the ball from the rebound.
 
Rooney goes down in the box after a shot from Ronaldo. Ref gives nothing but a goal kick.

No penalty. Rooney has fallen down quite easily tonight. He tried to invite contact in the same way Rossi did earlier on but Villareal didn't bite.
 
Clever play by Fletcher releases Ronaldo down the right but his cross is blocked.

Ronaldo gets booked for continually arguing with the ref. He may have a point on Capdevila but his petulance continues to grow.

Some nice possession play from Villareal leads to nothing and Ronaldo nearly gets in behind on the counter.
 
Nani again struggling to get into the match, Pres showing some very nice touches tonight and he's still a very classy player.

Corner to Villareal. Evans has not looked as assured as he did in the first half.

Corner cleared again by Evra. Rooney tries to get the ball to break but he can't find Nani

Evra makes another good run forward, finds Ronaldo in the middle. He squares it to Fletcher but his shot drags wide
 
Ronaldo picks out Fletcher with some nice play and he hits a shot.

The play gets pulled back and Fuentes gets a booking.

Pires nearly finds Rossi with a deft chip and Vllareal still on the attack with Rossi.

Eventually cleared by Ferdinand.
 
PIGs kicking is suspect there as Villareal break and Pires's cross causes the backline some trouble.

Rossi has a nice deft turn that leaves Rio trailing but his pass in the six yard box is just about cleared by Evans and Rio.
 
Ronaldo runs at the defence up the wing and Fletcher eventually wins a thor from it,

Villareal break with real intention but TK picks up a weak cross.
 
Rooney tried a delicate chip when the pass to Fletcher in a great postion was on.

Villareal win a free kick and Ronaldo and Anderson break from that.
 
This game is going back and forth but neither team has had any real purpose.

Anderson has a long range shot but it goes straight down the middle.

Fletcher breaks clear down the middle finds Rooney running down the corner, his dink doesn't come off.
 
Fletcher fouls Ibagaza. Bruno tries to find Rossi but Ferdinand clears.

Ronaldo tries to break and finds Anderson. O'Shea with a cross down the right but Anderson's shot is straight at the keeper. Nice play by Rooney who found O'Shea on the overlap but a weak shot by Anderson there.
