How is Song homegrown? He's from Cameroon.
Not to derail the thread, but that's why I question City going into the new season. When they've been linked with Pogba and De Bruyne for so long and they end up adding Song as a midfield option to Yaya, Fernandinho and Fernando. It's not great.
Joined Arsenal when he was 16 I believe.

Yeah, I do see what you mean. Particularly if results do start slacking and the blame looms over Pellegrini again.
He is considerably weaker at the moment though I would expect him to improve given time.

I mean we all have our opinions but I imagine if we sign Schniderlin, then when both him and carrick are fit carrick will still be first choice. Another way of looking at it is that carrick would get into a lot of the top teams in the prem and maybe even the world, yet schniderlin would not get close at the moment this why we are the only team bidding. I actually like schniderlin as a player but boy does he get overrated on here by some.

I suggested yesterday the initial bid was just a time delaying tactic whilst we exhausted several avenues.....pogue said quite rightly 10 days between bids is normal service....perhaps but I'm still thinking we are looking at others first with schneiderlin on the back burner simmering.....might be wrong.
I reckon you're spot on. If we wanted Schneiderlin desperately, we would have wrapped it up by now. I don't think he's a priority.
I don't see who would be a bigger priority for midfield, I certainly hope we aren't pissing Schneiderlin about chasing Schweinsteiger.

As I said yesterday I suspect it's not price haggling it's just sorting out a payment structure. A similar thing happened with Shaw IIRC.
There's been plenty of other times when we (and other clubs) have wanted a player desperately but a fee wasn't agreed until much closer to the start of the season so I don't think that holds true.
Im not saying I agree. I just wouldnt be sure LVG and woodward have to have one eye on sponsors etc these days. Not inconceivable those who hand over 1bn EUR sponsorship deals do so expecting the odd glamourous player to adorn their merchandise at the club. Again could be way wrong...

We'll get info as and when something happens, until then there's no point speculating it's a dead deal just because there isn't anyone posting up to the minute details.
I haven't been told anything to the contrary, deals can take time and if the powers that be are happy for it to take a few days to get over the line then so be it, there isn't a major rush for it is there?
Granted, it would be great to have him before the tour but we're hardly 24 hours from deadline day.....

Its just seems (in theory) this should be as simple a transfer to wrap up. Southampton have known for a year that he's leaving this Summer, they've supposedly agreed to let him leave this Summer if they get the right fee, we should know that fee, yet had a bid rejected and haven't gone back. Just strikes me as somewhat half hearted.
I'm sure Schniderlin's people know the fee that Southampton will accept, so if we wanted him badly enough, we'd just pay up.
I haven't been so excited by a signing since we got Veron... Let's hope this one makes the grade.

Especially when you consider we would have been working on deals 3 months before the season ends..this is typical apparently according to former pro's at the club. I think alot of the muppet signings would be seeing where the land lies and delaying a decision back to us themselves. Hence the domino effect on our decision making. There is nothing about this transfer that would take too long in my eyes if he was our number one CM target this summer. Are we moving heaven and earth....

Daley Blind seemed like an even easier deal to seal and he wasn't on board until September. Loads of reasons for deals to drag on a bit, no matter how simple it seeems. It's been a funny window because a fair bit of business was done early but there's still a lot of clubs who haven't done much business yet. Which is standard enough.
It's easier said than done. I've been told that quite a few times that agents are the ones that stymie a deal being done for a player as their fees must be taken into account and sometimes both clubs just walk away from the deal. It could be something as simple as that holding this up.
Must be Schweinsteiger surely. Unless we've got a really under the radar deal going like Pogba, Vidal or Veratti. Doubt it though.
Pogue I know in your quiet moments your thinking "jesus christ let me take over negotiations!"
I think with Blind we hung on so long waiting to see if Vidal's knees shaped up, in the case of Schneiderlin it's hard to reason why we don't just chuck Southampton the £25M up front and get him in now.
