Mourinho just said we were always fighting for second place in this group

Are people really surprised? Everyone knew united and Valencia would fight for 2nd. Our squad is far from the Juve level.

It’s like saying Everton should aim for the 4th if we really believe we should aim for first in the group.

Jose's constant desire to self preserve is pathetic. Acknowledge that we could have been more positive in our play today and move on.

Juve is a favourite is well known, but the United manager throwing in the towel with a return leg to play is just so pathetic.

He is a pragmatist, but a United manager should be doing much better than this.

There wasn't much in today's game. I'm not up anyone's arse, I actually think we could have pressed higher and made changes in the game. I'm not happy that Mourinho didn't apply any changes.

I'm just saying some of our players aren't that good. Regardless of who our manager is.

You are correct, it is not easy to replace Moaninho, but surely a club the size of United can do much better than we are currently, Look at Dortmund or Juventus both clubs are obviously very well run with fantastic scouting teams behind the scenes. Who are the people recruiting for those teams they are obviously light years better than what United have. And as for the manager, United seem to have hired a big moaner, he was the one who signed Lindelhoff , and Bailly the he comes out a season later and complains that our defence is not good enough. Jose.. you signed those players. Then he constantly moans about this player and that player.. please get rid of him he is just a moaner. and his tactics are now antique.
 
He talks as if his supposed targets were World Class difference makers and not workhorses like Willian and Perisic. So tired of this guy, he's like a spoilt child and seems to have no interest in coaching and nurturing players.

I don't think that these quotes were necessary from Mourinho, they are true but not necessary.
When we drew at home to Valencia it made our path harder. Are you aware than we are in bad form and Juventus is a great team?
It sounds self defeating but we did not concede the match today, we were beaten. Look at the team we set out, we tried to get something from the game, they were simply better.

Mou is to blame on that since he spent equal/more money then Juve did on their players on 8 other players.

We tend to have a bigger budget to Juve both in terms of fees and salaries
 
As supporters we know this but it’s not something you want to hear from our manager. We should be aiming to finish first in every game, table and competition. It doesn’t happen like that of course but it’s the mindset. This is a far cry from that guy who took that press conference as the new Chelsea manager all those years ago

Yes, and he should have done better with all the expensive signings he has made: Lukaku, Matic, Pogba, Sanchez are four experienced players who should carry the team week in week out. Bailly, Fred, Lindelöf should also do better but are less experienced. Only DDG is a solid performer from the time before Mou so it is not that Moyes, LvG or Fergie during his last days signed players who turned into legends. Martial, Mata, Fellaini, Shaw, Herrera, Smalling, Jones, Young are all decent to good players, but not exceptional.

I am pretty sure he knew beforehand how much they would cost and he still gave the go ahead for them. He also gave a hisdy fit when we refused to spend another 60m on toby on top of the other 60m soend on bailly and lindelof. Please check how many 60m rated defenders juve has

Mourinho and those at the club who scouted/recommended them, or vetoed alternatives, yes. They all share some of the blame for why our squad is so low on quality relative to the top European teams.

When Mourinho says we're a level below Juventus, he is right, even if he's partially at fault for it.

Jose just says who he likes in each position via a shortlist. Ed decides to allocate the resources. If Ed chose to create concentration risk on allocating 2/3rds of the budget to 2 players then that's on him.

Jose also gets blame when they don't perform. He always does and there's no hiding that. But it's a shared problem.

Spurs has better attacking players than United. Can’t believe players like Martial and Rashford are starter for a club that wants to go far in CL.

He doesn't have a say on how much players are bought and sold for. He just says who he likes and Ed decides what level is a fair price. Do you think Mourinho sits down with Raiola and says "right I want Pogba, let's talk figures"?
 
I'm stuck in a cycle where I'm forced to listen to the manager of my national team, Martin O'Neill and Mourinho constantly recycle the notion that are our players are shite. In front of the players. I'm no psychologist but I feel that may have negative impact on the players self-belief. I was resigned to our fate with half an hour to go tonight. He used to be a fighter, Mourinho. Where's the fun gone, lads? I miss the fun.

The manager will always know the price just in case he think its not worth it or he wants to switch to another target. SAF would usually do that (or not buying anyone at all) when the fees asked for his targets became ridiculous

Also if a manager asks for Pogba then surely he knows he will cost more then 30m.

I agree, we're worse than we should be. But this is not a Premier League winning (let alone Champions League winning) side, no matter who was at the helm. The manager will be sacked at some point in the next 6 months, of that I'm fairly sure. But at that point we'll also have to face the fact that the squad is not fit for purpose and the next manager is going to need 2 or 3 transfer windows of investment (which, I am also fairly sure, he won't get). I fear we'll be locked in to this cycle for a good few years yet.

SAF controlled everything at United. And Gill was around. The landscape changed after that.
