Moyes So Far!

Pleased for Moyes tonight. Definitely needed the win and had the balls to make a lot of changes.

8 or 9 games in and he has played 2 "big teams" right at the beginning and he hasnt had any time to get settled and get his systems in place and get the team to be his team. Worrying????? for fecks sake. fecking drama queens
I think you missed the joke. Liverpool not being a big team and all that.

Thats not enough time at all. 3 months to get to know the abilities, character and personality of the entire squad and reserves etc. In 3 months he wont have seen all the players at their best and worst. he wont have seen how some react under pressure or when they are lacking confidence or brimming with confidence. its simply not that long an amount of time to see it all. You are dreaming if you think it just takes 3 months for a new manager to get to grips with everything involved at a juggernaut such as Man utd.

Yeah that's fine no ones expecting that I hope, but stuff like knowing Hernandez has great movement is something I'm sure he knows but he seems to be portraying himself of having little to no knowledge of our players.

I'm pretty sure he was joking, calm down.

It is very strange I must admit, it's like he's just arrived from Mars, every football fan in the Country knows Hernandez's movement is brilliant.

Anyway, good result, he gave the fringe players some game time, Nani looked sharp, all in all a good night.

You're obviously going to know players much much better if you're seeing them in training every day, and analysing their every kick in Uniteds games.
It's fair that he's sill learning more and more about the players as time goes on. He just can't take too long on this though. They've all played now, except Zaha I think. He has got to know his best team. It certainly was not the one at the weekend.

Losses away to City and Liverpool are nothing new, it'd be ridiculous to judge Moyes on them two games. Thankfully we've a lovely run of fixtures now, we'll have a clearer picture of Moyes in a month or two.

Regarding Chicharito, didn't he just basically confirm what was said? Using a common expression: You could say the same thing if someone tells you water's wet, doesn't mean much. He has made a point of getting to know his players - I suspect people are over analyzing everything he says now. Surely nobody suspects him of not knowing anything about Javier Hernandez, a well known striker in the Premier League these past few seasons.

'fecking drama queens'

Haha, dear me Stack.

He seems to not have seen half of our players play. Even the ones he's played. He used the phrase "people tell me he's very good" when discussing Kagawa pre match, and "they tell me that's what he's like" when talking about Chica post. So presumably he's never actually seen them himself, despite playing both of them in actual games this season.

Yep and having managed against most of them for a good few years.

I reckon Ashley Young's mum must be ringing him up and telling him what Young is like.

*sigh* He's probably hinting that SAF has spoken to him about those players.

I remember Moyes's first day at United, when they filmed him arriving, and Ashley Young was the first person he met. In fact he was the only person there, since he'd come in early to work on an injury. So I think it's safe to say it takes Moyes about a month to process things happening to him and meeting people. For his first few weeks in charge he probably thought Ashley Young was the only player we had.

He's slowly realising we have others, but still hasn't actually realised he's seen them yet. Hopefully it'll click by Saturday.

Even at the shite level of football I played you had people who looked amazing in training but didn't cut it in competitive games. Add that to the simple fact that any manager will learn the most about his players when he'a actually, you know, managing them and it's not the most outrageous idea for moyes to base his opinion on taking charge of them in a proper game. But hey, any excuse to take the piss, right?

Isn't it more likely that he's just trying to be overly casual when talking about individual players rather than not knowing anything about them?

The problem with his language is that it's very defensive. Everything seems calculated to avert criticism, gain time, damp expectations, as if he expected to come up short. When the lack of decisiveness in the transfer market is factored in, where he seemed afraid to take any kind of risk, it's not a reassuring start.

It's all straws in the wind so far though. The true test comes in the next 8 months

Liked the look of him as he walked off after the game. Looked determined and the fist pump to the Stretford End after a big win was very Fergie.

It all makes sense now. His team selections against the big teams haven't been cautious or defensive - they have been entirely random. He doesn't know any of the players. We've been extremely lucky so far. He could easily have gone for Zaha in goal and Lindegaard up front.

Cracked out the "that's what they tell me about him" about Hernandez. I don't understand why he keeps saying that he doesn't know the team, he should know the majority of the senior players.

I don't understand that. Surely he has watched us playing before? And who are the people telling him these things? His Everton staff that he brought with him?

I think as Steve alluded to it's definitely Fergie.

Probably getting a fair bit of input on players from Giggs as well I imagine

Anyway Moyes really needed this win - just to keep the fecking papers quiet if nothing else

It's patently bleeding obvious. This conversation should be about Moyes' conversational style rather than his knowledge of players, if anyone really wants to talk about it. A bit desperate if they do though.

Just read on the BBC that he's won five of his first eight matches which is the best start for a Manchester United manager since Sir Matt.
Pure decent like. One draw, five wins, one hammering and a poxy away loss to Liverpool.

Actually decent start if you look at it holistically.

How many of those managers were handed the champions?

I think there has only ever been 1 manager who took over a Championship winning team before and he (Brian Clough) lasted only 44 days. So Moyes is already breaking records.

Well said Rood. Am I the only one who is getting seriously pissed off with these people looking for the negative in everything?
