Nani

Is there any need for subtle insults? Either insult me properly or tell me why you disagree.

Come Storm , as Mika says "Take it easyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy"
I think we should make a difference between how we think a player should perform and how the player is doing enough to keep SAF happy with his performances.

I have no idea who Mika is, but I am easy :D

Some really funny comments like that in the past week, you gotta love it.

How did you manage to get that many posts in so less months here on redcafe anyway?

But nevertheless, where I play it's not that complicated, maybe you are some superhero who knows exactly everything bout football, but a winger's job is explained pretty easily

Nani also had a great assist against West Ham (remember West Ham last year eh?). Not a too weak opposition neither.

What is it that you find peculiar about it?
Give me reasons pogue, some on here said Park is at least as productive as Nani, you said he played againt better oppositions, my stats show the opposite

What's peculiar is that you've taken a tiny sub-set of games, in which Nani managed one assist, when we scored 5 against Hull, at home - while Park managed none - as some sort of evidence that Nani can produce against tough opposition, yet Park cannot. Which makes no sense whatsoever.

Anyway, this thread is going round in circles now. It seems we all agree that Park has performed at a consistently higher level than Nani, who clearly has enough talent to potentially reverse this situation. And I'm sure we all hope he goes on to do this, hopefully before the end of the season.

Probably best we leave it at that, eh?

Oh against West Brom:
Park started, Nani came on in the 67th minute, scored in the 90th.

I agree that Park should offer much more in the final third, despite his other qualities. He should have score more and created much more.

Nani on the other hand will have to improve a lot if he wants to be in the first team. But I'm sure he will. Nevertheless, I think both wouldnt be first choice if Hargreaves was fit

Great, he's made more tackles. How many goals has he scored? His job is to score and assist. That's what he's paid to do.

Jesus Christ, it's not rocket science. The main reason he is picked is not for his goalscoring and his assists, it is for his defensive duties and his work-rate in general.

Do you realise that Rooney is playing up front basically as a target man? He doesn't defend like he used to. Berbatov will not defend. Ronaldo is on the other wing and does not defend as often as he should. And now you are saying Park shouldn't either? We would get totally overran playing a system like that.

You are using stats to say that Nani is playing better. He is not. For the majority of matches, he has been shite. You cannot say that about Park because he gives 100% in each match. Nani normally starts against very weak opposition or he comes on against other teams when we are winning and the game is stretched. That is when he is at his best, when the opposition are attacking and we can break.

Nani is not going to start against any top teams unless we have already won that competition or if we have a lot of injuries. At the moment, he does not offer the team enough.

Nobody here is Nani bashing. They are simply telling it the way it is. Nani has the potential to be a better player than Park however he is not showing much of that potential consistently. Park has been the better player this season and probably by far. If Nani improves he may take his spot but he has a long way to go.

Park deserves to be in the team. Simple as.

If Hargreaves comes back to full fitness next season then we won't be having this argument as he will definitely be playing.

Why don't you try reading my last 10 posts in this thread and you'll find that I've answered all of those points already. Nice of you to show up to the party when everybody's gone home.

I didn't read all your posts because they became more and more ridiculous as I was going through them so I got bored. Sorry.

Nani has a great work-rate about him...remember SAF played him in the return leg against Barcelona...I dont think he would have if he didnt think he had the work rate, as we would have been run over....The main problem with Nani is I think his ego seems to be getting to him in the last few months and thats why SAF has decided to drop him and signed Tosic on top...this will give a greater urge to prove himself and I think we have already seen the signs albeit against a poor opposition in Southampton....I'm hoping its signs of things to come, where he will be a team performer rather one who's in it for himself...

A bit of a conundrum this lad. You never know what sort of performance he is going to put in every time he is on the pitch. Needless to say his confidence hasn't looked good for a while now and given that he seems to massively rely on confidence, his form has been a mere reflection of the situation. I wish he could all over sudden start playing like he did against Fulham away last season or Arsenal at home in the FA Cup last season.

On the issue of him and Park, Park simply has merited his inclusion in the first team this season. He is a gutsy player but not exactly top quality, I guess you can't complain given his relatively low price tag.

Lastly, the extent that players of the calibre of Park and Fletcher now thoroughly merit starting berths in our first team, says a lot about how poor the other players have been save for Evra and Vida.

I thought Park was better in the two previous seasons compared to this year

Park has been bobbins this season, he`s gone right off the boil. Yeah his work rate is unquestionable (he could play for Stoke) sure, being a workhorse is important but more is required to being a Manchester United player. I think his passing is poor, he runs down far too many blind alleys & his finishing is woeful!

I would love to see Nani given a good run, there is definitely more to his game than Park. In fact on present form I would give Nani a run out over Ronaldo who is basking in last seasons glory & needs a bit of benching IMHO.

Eh, this has been his best half a season for us since he's came.

Personally I thought he was more effective last season (especially in Europe) I don`t understand all the praise being heaped on Park. Maybe I`m missing something?? His passing ability is poor to the extreme, he runs & runs & then runs a little bit more & then either loses the ball cheaply or falls over. I`ve gone right off him this season & would like to see Nani given his head for the remainder of the campaign. At least (on form) he is a decent crosser of the ball which Park clearly isn`t. We`re firing blanks at the moment & a lot of that is down to the service to Rooney & Berbatov who are subsequently dropping too deep looking for the ball. Freshening up is needed & Nani for Park could give us an edge, Ronaldo needs shaking up too, Tevez can play wide effectively rather like Ole Gunnar used to.

His passing's one of his best assets, IMO. His passing % is better than Carrick's this season, obviously Carrick makes more passes but to say his passing is poor in the extreme is very odd. His ability to hold onto the ball is something he gets praised for all the time, for someone so small he keeps the ball very well.

I'd say we're not scoring as much because we've missed Scholes, he's still our best creative centre mid by a country mile on his day.

When has Tevez ever played wide effectively for us?

Nani, was awful last night. He lost the ball so many times in the first half an hour that he lost all his confidence and started hiding. Put a nice ball into the box but other than that really bad.

Hopefully he'll get a boost agaisnt Derby.

His form is of great concern to me now, at a club like United when you are given a chance you really need to take it and he simply isnt doing.

I've always stood by Nani on here believing that he will come good, but now i'm having serious serious doubts.

If we could swap Nani for Valencia i'd do it in a heartbeat.

I know the point you're making, but if we need to be playing Derby for Nani to show his true worth, then I'm not sure he's half the player some of the folks on here seem to think he is.

My own tuppence worth, is that he's benefitted from being a mini-Ronaldo. He was bought from the same club, is a winger with two good feet, decent striker of a ball, and people assumed his development would go the same way.

It won't. He's potentially a very good player, but a far different one that Ronaldo. I honestly think if we'd never had Ronaldo at this club that Nani wouldn't have been afforded the sort of patience and understanding that he has been. I'm all for giving players, especially young players, lots of time, but he has to start repaying that soon. Because, at times, he's not even making the matchday squad, and he's potentially far too good for that.

Good post.

His brain is developing nicely. Played well today. Should have had a goal.

He's been given the responsibility left by Ronaldo and handling it amicably.

He said he was going to step up and he has, so fair fecks to the lad. Arguably one of our best talents, and he's learning to play the team game.

Looking like a great season for the lad.

Improved so much this season. Might even have a few wanks over him before the year is over.

He was our best attacker tonight easily, always looked threatening and constantly causing Sagna problems, which is no easy feat. His ball in for Berbatov was magical. I was hoping he would have a good season and it's looking good so far.

feck me though, I would've put money on him slotting that chance away/

His brain is developing nicely.

Is it me or has his trackin back immensively improved?
I was going to say those things. There was one time where he might have been to blame for not picking up Eboue on the left side of our box (when Eboue had all the time in the world and miscontrolled eboueishly), but we had our entire backline plus a couple of midfielders marking one Arsenal player in front of Foster, so it was probably more of a collective cock-up.

I thought he disappeared for large parts of the second half today, but all in all he's looking good (and evil).

And what's with all those perfect throughballs he's playing now? He didn't do that before, did he?

Also, this is the thread we're bumping nowadays. Noobs.

He excites me more than Ronaldo. I think he's technically superior to Ronaldo.
