Newcastle fleece Liverpool for Carroll

And just few months ago barca signed that dude David Villa for less than Pool offered for fecking Carroll. How mad is that?

Not that mad - Carroll is 22 and has at least a decade left so plenty of sell on value. Villa has one decent contract left in him and will probably retire at the end of it.

Yeh but Villa is a world cup winner and one of the best players in world football.

Carroll is not. English tax is such a joke

Worth no more than £15m.

Wolves offered Newcastle £1.5m for him just 12 months ago

24million for Bent
30million for Carroll
40million for Bale
50million for Torres

The world has gone completely fecking insane!

The top two I agree, the world has gone mad.

The bottom two seem about right.

It did, but he ended up shite.

It was off the back of a great world cup, it was justified.

Carroll 1/2 a season in the prem, shocking.

Actually I don't know why I posted this. Carry on

What about the £30mill we paid for Veron?

Veron was an established World Class player when we signed him. I cannot say that about Bent, Carroll, Bale. Torres is world class but nowhere near £50m.

btw we paid £28.1m for Veron ;)

I've just sent an e-mail to Man United offering £200 for Javier Hernandez, in writing.

Which means he was way overpriced at £7m.

It's fecking awful! I don't know how they've managed to put that sum of money on his head, or how Newcastle can describe the offer as paltry.

Have we entered some kind of spastic twilight zone, where things appear to look the same, but stupid, sky-scraper like objects and otherwise just-above-average footballers have increased tenfold in value?

What kind of dark days do we have ahead of us? Days of arched eyebrows, faulty English, girlfriend-beating and ladyboy strikers, wheeler-dealings between churchill-looking dog managers and a southpark named king. A very fast elf who has an insane bounty on his head and exclusives that are actually not even news?

And the 7 we paid for Evra, Vidic. As well as 12m for Ronaldo.

Bargains

Sure, if we actually knew they were going to be World Class. They were uncertainty buys, and it paid off in the end. Just because Carroll has been in dashing form for Newcastle won't guarantee the same for another club.

Same as Italian Football if all this silly money does not stop flying about. The days of seeing Steve Claridge step out of retirement for a Premier League team will be a luxury in the future.

I'm not taking anything away from them as players but there's no way in the world Bale is worth 40million.

As for Torres, he's a great striker, on top form I think he's about the best but he's had a shaky 12-18 months (for a variety of reasons, not all his own fault). I think he'll score for fun at Chelsea but I dont think he's worth 50million, particularly when City are out of the market having bought Dzeko, Barca have Villa and I doubt he'd go to Madrid.

I'd put the likes of Ibrahimovic in the same bracket, I think its madness clubs paying that sort of money for players.

Ronaldo may be slightly different given the revenue he generates as a brand, but I dont ever see Gareth Bale modelling underwear do you?

So Carroll is worth 35million. Cascarino and Niall Quinn would be 40million pound players in todays market!

Thats the reason Le Tissier never left Southampton...

No one could afford him!

If Liverpool actually do this it'll just be hilarious. Rake in £50m from Torres and spend most of it on Carroll.

Now they want 35m apparently.

Newcastle have nothing to lose in asking, they know Liverpool are desperate and that they'll have 50million in the bank from Torres.

Worst case scenario they hold on to him til the summer.

35m would be brilliant. They could buy one of Ronaldo's legs in that

Agreed - but from a business point of view he's money you'll never see again. Therefore, his value isn't as high as it would be if he was only 22 years old.

Carroll has the possibility of being a really top player as well as being one of a few players of his type in the PL at the minute.

Its a lot of money but you're paying for potential so its not surprising.

Imagine if Hodgson was still at Liverpool, selling Torres and buying Carroll for 35million

He'd be lynched!

Im surprised Liverpool have not gone for someone like Elmander instead, he has 6 month left and could get him less 10m.

That's where they should be aiming. Carroll will not improve them on Torres, and along with Suarez those two buys will mean that Torres money is gone. £50m is a decent amount of money to mess with but they will have to spend it wisely, on four or five cheaper players who will improve them in different areas of the pitch rather than one player who won't win them trophies.

They should look at wingers, perhaps buy someone like Young at £15m, then someone cheaper from abroad - there are a few options, Elia or Marin wouldn't cost much. They could get a full back at £5m and a centre half for less than £10m easily. Or, like Milan, they could look at bargains at big clubs - someone like Keita, Muntari, Pandev, Diarra or Benzema will soon be available at a decent price.

Dalglish could set fire to Anfield and escape a lynching. But he and Commoli both will earn a raised eyebrow from me if we do that.

It's madness.
