Newcastle United v Manchester United

Good result and performance overall. Came out hard at the start and sat back more once we had the two goals. Hopefully we can string a few performances like the first 20 together.

Good performance from the lads in the second half and what a goal by Cleverley to kill off the game. Its nice to see that we can keep a clean sheet against a potent attacking side. Definately the type of performance we can all be happy about because it was high energy and plenty of pace/aggression in our play.

Man of the match probably split between Patrice Evra and Tom Cleverley. Both were fantastic today and both scored two excellent goals. Its nice to see Pat back to his best. He kept ba/cisse/ameobi under wraps when they drifted over to his side of the pitch.

I thought Wayne Rooney was the difference maker in midfield today. He is was bursting with energy and always wanting the ball at his feet to get our attack flowing. Great linkups with Cleverley and RVP too.

A bit disappointed with Kagawa because he was a tad lightweight today. To be fair though, we keep playing him in a new position every match and its just difficult for him to adjust. It definately was not his best position but he did have some nice touches and linkup play.

All in all a good performance from the lads and a very important 3 points at a tough venue.

Great result. Good performance. Our defenders did really well today.

Didn't expect this result to be fair.

A times it was a great performance other wise it was good. Thought we panicked a bit with some of the clearances but in general we played well and I think we made toon look more threatening as de gea was having an iffy time dealing with the crosses in.

I like what we're doing in the middle but I think we might be better off playing more of a 433 than a diamond. That way Rooney can be a bit more advanced whilst still being deep enough to influence, also allows clev more time to roam. Also think that it would allow us to push kagawa a bit higher where he would have less defensive work to do and could roam more.

Thought the defence and carrick were excellent today and particularly the defence showed a much more solid display. Rooneybwas great.

Brilliant performance, attacked with purpose and defended solidly, for the first time in a long time. Our whole back 4 was brilliant, especially the full backs I thought. Only player who I feel could have done more maybe was welbeck, who's touch was a bit off and he should have scored, but he still put in a shift.

We looked solid at the back minus a few high crosses. the Second half i felt we could have passed forward a bit quicker, we were inviting the pressure on to much with too many passes backwards.

Great performance anyway.

Newcastle typically put in their worst performance of the season when you lot turned up.

That first twenty minutes was hilariously bad. United came out quickly, but I've never seen defending like it. Literally no United players were marked from corners, and they just couldn't keep the ball for more than one pass.

This improved to an extent, and they arguably dominated the game(although United weren't too bothered ceding possession by this point) until Cleverley crossed it into the goal because Steve Harper has to be the worst reserve keeper in the league. His performance was borderline unprofessional.

So yeh, you were decent and much improved from anything I've seen this season, but you're not out of the woods yet. The keeping is still incredibly dodgy which is making the defence more nervous than they should be.

Most. Bitter. Post. Ever.

Actually it's borderline retarded too.

You really think Newcastle dominated the game?

From what I saw the only moments they had were the few from De Gea flopping at crosses. We were pretty comfortable and should have had another goal really.

In fairness Newcastle typically put in their worst performances against us like last season.

They definitely dominated large periods in terms of chances. You had 7 unreturned shots, then they did the same, so they clearly had more of the play in that 25-60 minute range.

You were relatively comfortable except the De Gea flapping, but then that did happen quite a lot. I thought that goal line incident summed him up perfectly - ropey from the original cross and then pulls off a brilliant save immediately after.

The reason Newcastle lost is because we finally played the best match of the season so far. Newcastle are a good football team and are sure to have their periods of dominance. But our defence held out very well...bar that dodgy almost goal.

Good tactics by Fergie....

oh and Wayne Rooney.

You just cannot plan for a player at the top of his game.

I cant wait til we thrash le arse firmly into mid table mediocrity where they now belong.

Not sure what chances they had that were particularly useful though in comparison to Welbeck missing an open goal and Rooney forcing two decent saves from Harper..

They largely had long range efforts and poor header efforts.

Anyway I'm not gonna bother with that, no way you're dumb to believe what you're writing. Keep on Wumming.

Amazed that post is even controversial.

OK - Steve Harper was exceptional today, as was Newcastle's defending from corners. Patrice Evra is unstoppable in the air.

You scored two early goals due to their horrific defending from corners, before having a period where they were allowed to have a lot of the ball and created a few chances, and then Cleverley got a bit of a flukey one which completely killed it and you just saw it out after that. You clearly deserved the win, but I can't even believe the reaction to that post.

They were probably unlucky not to score once. If they'd have defended properly from corners, they may well have got a point.

It's amazing how people are lauding that performance as an example of United being back to their best. Have you not watched your own team over the last three years? I know you've had a poor performance start to the season, but that should be a 7/10 display for you lot.

The goals were great headers. If Arsenal scored them you'd be lauding the movement not pinning it all on shit defending. The defending obviously wasn't great, but both Evans and Evra moved well and put great headers in. Suggesting they were piss easy goals is just daft.

Manchester United clearly dominated most of the match. They had their periods of control...expected. But I never felt we were threatened except for that one error by our goalie. To dismiss the goals as you did is just being petty.
